if i were to uninstall ryzom from my mac and then download it again, would my character be saved? reason i ask is that after a 'system update' last night i am no longer able to login. double annoying! all i get is "ryzom quit unexpectedly".

yes, but your landmarks, key assignments, macros and interface layout are saved on your computer. i don't know where they are on a mac, but they are named interface_marceline.icfg and keys_marceline.xml.

ok, cool! so if i uninstall the application then download it again i will be able to log in to my current account without having to start over? i don't think i could cope with having to start again.. that's nervous breakdown tackle!
i can't figure out what has gone wrong/changed.. it was all working fine until that system update and the annoying thing is that i didn't even read what the update was as they are usually something daft like "front facing camera software'

thanks.

(edit: Sorry for the double post - should have reloaded the thread after typing and before submit)

The character itself is stored on the server. So you can use different computers and reinstall to your heart's content.

However, configuration of your windows, the position of your flags on the map, defined macros, chat logs and such are tied to your client and may become lost during a reinstall.

You can backup those things by copying the folder "save" in <ryzom_install_dir> to some safe location. To be on the safe side, also copy the *.cfg files (files ending with ".cfg") to another location.

What I do when I reinstall is:
    * copy save/ and *.cfg files to safe place
    * wipe existing install
    * install from scratch
    * login with a second low level character, test and see if everything works ok
    * copy back the saved *.cfg files and save/ folder to install location
    * test again with low level char

Sorry I cannot be more specific. I do not own an Apple device. Probably a search will reveal where Ryzom is installed. You can copy and paste folders and files in the Apple Finder like text in a clipboard, I believe. So it should be doable. Good luck!

#7 Report | Quote[en]

no worries, thanks for replying.. i've just an search for the items and found all the text associated - there's literally millions of different text edits.. to be honest, i don't know what i'm doing even with all you've said so the chance of me buggering it up are rather high.

most simple way:

1. find the files i mentioned in your profile (it's .icfg not .cfg)
2. copy them to another location
3. uninstall/reinstall
4. log in marceline
5. do (1) again
6. copy your saved files from "another location" back to where the search (5) found them

i have searched and searched but i cannot find the icfg files or any of the text you said.. i could be looking in the wrong places but i have no idea where else to search. i've sifted through the contents folder looking for them but found only endless texts and codes. i have deleted the game and reinstalled but still i have the same problem... i don't understand how this can happen for, seemingly, no reason at all.
so say that i am livid is a vast understatement.

i have read other posts on various other forums and it seems that other people have had the same problem but with an older version of the game (1.6.0 - or something like that) i am or was running fv 2.0.0 up until last night. i have tried to lower the graphic details in order to log in but nothing works.. every time it gets to the character selection screen and i press 'play game' BAM... off it goes... "ryzom has quit unexpectedly"

i don't know what else to do. other mac users i know haven't got this problem and if it was the system update i did last night that has caused this then what the hell was the system updating?! because it certainly hasn't improved anything.

according to http://dev.ryzom.com/projects/ryzom/wiki/MacBinaries they should be here:

.cfg with client setings in:
~/Library/Application Support/Ryzom

.icfg and .xml files with your local character data (window positions, map-markers) in:
~/Library/Application Support/Ryzom/save/

thanks man, i have since found where these things are all hidden.. I am running a manual update atm so hopefully that will work.

I'm sorry to hear about it!

Can you tell us when exactly it crashes during load (does it show the loading bar after char selection?) and what you did/where you have been when it crashed ingame?

Please also do another trial run for us...
1. Delete client.log file in your ~/Library/Application Support/Ryzom folder.
2. Try to start up once.
3. upload your client.log file to some file hoster (pastebin.com or others) and post the url here.

This will likely reveal which part of ryzom doesn't work well with your system.

it crashes directly after pressing 'play game' from the character selection screen.. it doesn't go to the loading bar, just crashes off. the area of the game i'm in is the thesos area - i can't say exactly where because i honestly don't know ;P the gme didn't crash on me when in the area, i logged off normally. it was only the next day i tried to log back in that it no longer worked.. just fails every time after char selection.

i won't lie to you but that which you have said to trial ^^ is alien to me. i will continue to try using an e-mail from your support team. i will also attempt to find and do what you have said but not being 100% computer literate will go against me.

it's taken me all morning to find the -/library file which was conveniently hidden.. i tried to edit the client.cfg file but i couldn't, it wouldn't let me edit it.. like it's a read only.

i shall soldier on! i will not quit! :D

i should also point out that in desperation i uninstalled the app a couple of time last night and then downloaded it again. when that didn't work i found a link that pointed me to a manual update code as apparently the apple store doesn't support auto update. anyways, i did the manual update and the game loaded up.. but then crashed and then went back to not getting past the char selection screen. i have since deleted the program again as i couldn't be sure that the download i did was kosher.. ryzom is now downloading again (from app store) and will then try to edit the client.cfg file with the commands you/the support team have suggested.
watch this space ;P
