in the past, when a program crash error report gives me the information of a .dll file (like msvcr100.dll) i've found that searching for the .dll on my system is a good start, finding the newest copy of said file from search results and copying to the folder where the program that is having the problem is located. often this clears up the problem. in rare cases, the .dll file isn't present on my computer, at that point, a quick google of "xxxxx.dll download" often cures the problem (again placing said dll in the folder with the exe that's crashing, in this case the ryzom folder)

this would be my advice in this matter, ff, please report back any changes after trying this quick simple fix, incase it's a deeper problem.

That file comes with version 7090 in which it works fine
That file comes with version 7144 in which it generates the above message.

Both files are same size, same date and time

ryzom log file might have more info

It does. too much to list (273 (KB) ... loading wheel gets to about 8:00 position (counter clockwise from, 12). before crapping out.

so strange that 2 identical files can act so differently. there has to be some logical reason, yet it would appear to elude us all.

(at this point i'm out of ideas or options that i can offer, and while i'll continue to ponder the problem and read the thread, unless i have an idea to offer.)

I would imagine it's how that file interacts with one of the other 15 new files. Hopefully the info helps the developer figure it out.

the error description is generic 'app exited abnormally, reason unknown'.

possible reason might be at the end of client.log file.

Just tried again. This time instead of using copy of old client, used new fresh d/l

1. Did a complete fresh install of Ryzom into virgin folder (D:\Ryzom 64 7144) after putting my save directory in it.

2. Ran the install (ryzom_setup_644.exe)

3. Copied client and data files for 7144 as appropriate.

4. Error message said it was missing Ryzom.ttf Went and grabbed it from 7090 install. That needs to be fixed a something should be installing that..

5. Client.log file was almost 500MB. deleted and tried again, went down to 163 KB. Loads of warnings about skipping this and that, can't finding this and that, also many "can't add the big file", finally ending with:

Exception will be launched: Read error in file 'D:/Games/Ryzom 64 7144/data/titles.packed_sheets' (End of file?)

Odd that 7090 loads just fine and 7144 doesn't.

But it goes a lot further with 7144 on top of old client, than on top of fresh install.

The Steam reference seems to imply that Steam has to get involved somehow. I had heard that Ryzom would be available thru steam but I hope that's not doing to be mandatory. The two installs are on a 256 GB Samsung Pro; OS is on a separate but identical model SSD.

The newest Mac version (.7137) gave me an error message and would not open, maybe newest versions need to be recompiled.
