I have started a guild called The Clan.

What I have in mind is an intermediary guild that provides noobs a place to make up their minds what they want to be with the support of a guild.

Whether they want to be Kami, Kara, Mara, Neutral, Digger, Pvper, Crafter etc.

I see this providing them with a few funds to get started. Gear so they don't have to struggle so hard to find gear and as much help as we can.

I was thinking field trips with other guilds to let other guilds present their side of things... A chance for the noobs to get acquainted with other clans.

I would need all the help and advice I could get from other guilds.

Hopefully we would have some old timers at least enroll an alt to help.

I would appreciate some feed back on this.

Thank you,
Nehrie

not sure how i feel about the "- we are one" given there's a guild already called "we are one" that's active.

as for the idea, that's basically what cookies is nehrie, we've been around for years, we're listed on the guild registry (in both cases) and often new players don't spend long on the ML before they're in a normal guild, which is why cookies doesn't physically have a guild to draw the new players into.

the cookies would advise any new player to just play with people and see who they enjoy playing with. then make a choice.

just my thoughts, they don't amount to a hill of beans, but good luck in this endeavor, your likely to find that it's a full time job taking care of noobs en-mass (and get ready for 100's of alts ready to show up begging, because it happens from time to time)

(Sorry, readers, I'm too lazy at the moment to use the web interface for the forum, so I'll be posting my response in several posts.)

TL;DR: As a new-ish player, I'm excited about this idea! I have many and various thoughts about it, some of which may be useful.

Nehrie, I'm still a fairly new player, so I don't know how much useful feedback I can give. But I want to add my two cents anyway, because this project sounded exciting to me when I read your post :)

I think I've said more here than can probably be usefully incorporated, so please take these as suggestions and do what you like with the group.

I've been through the early parts of mainland life a few times as different characters, but I haven't gotten far enough to be sure of wanting to join any particular group. I think I would have liked something like the group your describing: a guildhouse to share armor, materials, weapons, etc; a place to meet and train with and explore with other new players; a group to chat and team with and have fun with. I never had trouble getting any help I needed through uni or generous and helpful players, but it would have been nice to be part of a group that had that stuff more organized.

I think I would (personally) feel fairly disappointed if this turned into a recruitment front for a particular group. I would want something like this to take care to truly remain unaffiliated. This might need special care to be taken if the leaders are affiliated -- If I remember correctly you're a Marauder, Nehrie?

#6 Доклад | Цитировать[en]

I think it would also be pretty important that there was very clearly no obligation to stay affiliated with the group at all long-term, and in fact that would be discouraged unless you wanted to take some sort of official role as a helper.

It would be interesting to hear an RP perspective on how this would fit in, having people who are leaning towards marauders learning and growing together with people who are leaning towards staunchly kami, or whatnot. It might also be helpful to have a place to acclimate to role-play. It has been a bit jaring for me to go from everyone happy-friendly on Silan to "zomg you talked to someone from *that group*? What's wrong with you"! Perhaps, rp-wise, homins newly arrived from the roots need some updating on the politics, and the major groups understand that.

I've never felt like I had a hard time getting to know the factions and groups if I wanted to, the names of the important leaders were never hard to find. But that said I've never actually been drawn enough to learn. I'm excited about the idea of an organized opportunity to hear from the voices of the different groups here.

It crosses my mind that any of the neutral, helping groups might enjoy contributing something to a project like this.

It would also be important to me not to be over-helped. While it's nice to be given dappers, honestly I was a little disappointed that I was given so much in Silan. I was looking forward to earning my way with little to start with and a world to explore. Part of what drew me personally to Ryzom was the big open world to explore and discover and participate in however I liked. I like the challenge of discovering the world, getting killed in surprising ways, quite by accident finding that great spot to grind, using the wrong armor for two weeks until I figure out how it's supposed to work, visiting a beautiful city for the first time just because I wanted to wander around, that sort of thing. I like to feel like I'm earning what I'm able to get, and understand it well, and that doesn't always happen when it feels like it was just given to me. Though I have to say, from the other side, it's sometimes hard to remember all this when I'm excited about sharing things with someone new.

Not all players I've met feel the same way, though.

I would also feel happy not being over-directed. Some people really do just want to be crafters and not learn the other skills, for example. There are lots of stories that have yet to be lived in Atys. Something that seems unusual at first can add a lot of richness the world here. Again, that's part of the draw of Ryzom for me -- there's no particular way I have to play, and my actions can have an impact on how the world develops.

And I suppose this should go without saying, but to me it's important that people don't feel pressured to stay and participate in the world longer than they're enjoying it. Ryzom is supposed to be fun, not an obligation, at least in my thinking.

It might help people make good use of the group if you're clear about what you try to offer, and you're ok with not being all things to every new player.

I hope I haven't come off as demanding or critical, though I've almost certainly come off as wordy :P. I suppose I've just thought some about the kind of help that I find helpful. When I want to be helpful and welcoming I'm not always sure how to do it. I hope what I've said is, well, helpful in some way :)

If nothing else, one new-ish player thinks this might be a nice idea and is excited about it.

Wow big post :)

This is not a "front" to make someone do what they do not want to do. lol I have an interest in seeing a guild that is friendly to maras as well as others. I would like to see the mara faction grow more.

Mara guilds do not normally take any noobs. So noobs end up joining another faction. And maras often end up with no one :(

I would like to see a member of The Clan have every opportunity to receive the help they need for whatever faction they decide to join. I'm pretty sure I can't fill everyone's needs. Which is why I am hoping for some co-operation between factions and guilds.

I see it more as maybe taking trekks, learning from some masters, maybe classes, maybe a field trip lol

There is room in each faction for each person's interest. Crafting, PvP etc. Each faction needs the crafters, diggers, the pvpers and the harvesters. So if a person decided to be mara and wanted to be a crafter I can see that happening.

I can also see someone who is interested in pvp joining a kami, kara or neutral guild.

My idea is to provide support for the noob to make up their mind. I honestly believe that most people would leave the guild after a time.

I also think there would be a core of people who stayed.

I see a need. I am trying to fill it.

Talk I am more than happy for any help that cookies wants to give. If you would like to send me a mail or respond on this form with any information, suggestion or even a tell ingame :)

Oh excuse me I'm sorry you keep posting I suppose so I see your links at the end of your post.

I inquired about cookies several times ingame. Quite frankly I can't remember them being all warm and fuzzy. I was kind of excluded. Noob not heeded type of attitude.

Which I would like to help noobs before they have 37 masters.

Talk your link needs fixed on ryztools.

http://ryzom.byweb.no/g this does not work

ryzom.byweb.no/g this does work

I have no idea why. :)

I checked every one of your links.. Most of them are irrelevant to me. I personally don't think I need to see what is in your Guild Armory or a list of every post you have ever made.

The Irc lnk was helpful as was ryztools once I made it work.

The Cookies reference guide for data, guides and more looks like it could be helpful. I haven't checked the links on it yet.

I also appreciate your "hint" about the guild registry.

Thank you so much for your help Talkirc. :)

checked the links, should work (should take you to the creators original post about ryztools).

as for the guild armory: that was a dedicated cookies guild hall, those items were once offered to new players if they simply asked, (we also did supply long time players with decent gear) sadly for every one new player, there were 10 alts, and the guildhalls were shut down as a result.

the IRC link was made to help players without an IRC client contact various ryzom related groups and teams (csr's dev's event team, ect.)

the list of my personal posts is just that, personal stuff that i've tried for (it's just to get some ideas out there, perhaps keep someone from posting a repeat of a previous idea)

the cookies reference guides are likely the most valuable (and if a few players suggest that i add a good post to the list, it get's added, so any cookies member can suggest an addition, or if players at large really find a post helpful i'll add it as well)

keep up the effort, it takes a lot of effort to do things like this, and i'm happy to see you take on the challenge of this type of task. good luck and if the cookies can offer a hand, you know how to find at least one of us.
