Had a lot of constructive replies and poll support on my last thread so thank you very much to all who contributed.

Once again sorry devs for the number of ideas on the thread but they are all related to changing around bosses and by putting them all in one thread makes it easier for people to read everyone's ideas on how to improve bosses. I thought I would summarize the main ideas in the last thread on here to make it clearer and easier.

More bosses. An idea spin-off posted by Jarnys was to make some of these new bosses "puzzle bosses" like clopperketh and bodokin.

Bring back Valcorenoch.

Increase the number boss spawns in a region. An idea spin-off posted by Mederi was that a boss could spawn in any zone of the same level with an important point raised by Jarnys that they should get a name change ending (-kya, -koo etc) depending on the region they spawn and I would hope the mat race would also change.

Make the bosses respawn time more random.

Kitin skirmishes. The initial idea was that kitin invasions should be put on a timer. This idea evolved from Bitttymacod's input that kitin skirmishes would be a better suited name and further ideas developed from this. The kitin exterminators would be smaller, not drop event titles and would need to fit the roleplay aspect of location spawning depending on whether or not the rangers have closed off the tunnels. Further ideas such as Zhoi's were posted that skirmishes could be carried out by other mobs as well as kitins.

i like the basic idea of this still, i voted on all options + other because there's one point that i think could be considered.

the part about the kitin title drop.

sure some players have them (both my toons have their race's titles) and many other players have them. new players have little or no chance of getting them. i think the need for "rare" titles is far too over rated, also if these were to spawn in the wild, it would improve the chances that one day everyone would have said title (which hurts nothing in terms of GP or RP). (think about the number of players that attend a kitin invasion, then think about how to give 10 tokens to 100 + players, math doesn't work out, unless you know a way to take one token and brake it down to 0.1 or less). those tokens cause huge arguments after events (please don't make me link this to the other posts about the tryker invasion event)

anyway i don't want to ramble on, i like every part of this idea other then the removal of the tokens from the kitin (we've had 2 of them since server merge that i know of, which makes the titles more then rare, they're only for us long time players that refuse to give up on getting them and do anything to get it)

simply put, keep the tokens and everything here is +1 in my book :)

Hello all. Considering the votes on this post (and Bosses 2) its quite clear people want more.

I wanted to gauge peoples thoughts and ideas on the difficulty that you would like new puzzle bosses (if any were actually made) to be.

Would you for example want a happy, fun and easy boss? Or would you prefer the challenge of a difficult boss that you have to think and try and work out?

Personally I find a good challenge fun and I think too many bosses are too easy as it is- but would love to get your thoughts on this.

I Still don't know why there is no Frippo boss. It would be a great challenge to kill something that can steal the sap from all the mages in a party, Maybe Q220 in forest?

What sort of difficulty level would you want from that boss? Would you want it designed to try and catch you out and possibly kill you in the process? :P

complex is fun when it comes to bosses, but the learning curve for them can't be too extreme or it will discourage many from even trying.

more couldn't hurt, spread out across the surface (putting them in forced pvp zones could have issues because: team "a" kills most of the steps and moves on to the boss, then team "b" slips in for the kill and cause it's a pvp zone it's "ok" to do things like this)

but over all i like the basic idea, if we can keep it out of forced pvp zones. (which saddly is a large chunck of playing space) unless there's a clear rule that says attacking a group engaged in a fight with x is not to be attacked untill the kill is complete (never happen i know).

anyway more bosses, more puzzles, more effort to kill them (without going over the top, no one want's to spend 4 hours in a full team of multi-masters to kill 1 boss)

I think bosses' guard should be more efficient, and react to defend its master even if it has been pulled far away.

Je suis d'accord avec Zendae. On devrait avoir plus de gardes à tuer avant d'avoir accès au roi.
Maintenant c'est vrai, que sur les gros pépères herbivores, le temps qu'ils se déplacent.. on y serait pour la semaine^^
Il se poserait certainement aussi le problème des petits futés qui, pendant que vous travaillez à éliminer proprement la garde, partent avec le roi..
bref, bref, bref..

Because people seem to ask for challenge :)

with the "pull - die - repull" trick you can do a boss with a small team because you isolate it.

The great thing about puzzle bosses is they can be designed so you can't isolate the boss until the puzzle is done :)

Difficult enough to force people to rethink Team dynamics, maybe wild roaming Frippos would be social to the boss and attack as well. The harder a boss is to beat, the more of a thrill it is when you are done.


This makes me wonder how many teams tried and failed to kill bosses like Clopperketh or Shooketh before someone found a solution to their unique problems. Or how anyone ever even realized Cratchakin was there at all. Imagine how long it must have taken to develop a working strategy for any of the NPC bosses.
If a boss is really difficult, even if there are those who will give up on it, there are those who will keep trying until they succeed and remember what worked well and what didn't. Something seemingly impossible at first might give some of us something new and fun to focus on.

very true aru, and i'm apt to be one that might keep trying and trying, look at the pei la teams, took us a few (10 or so) attempts to find a really good working method to do him effectively every time.

i believe me and virg agree that something along the line of little pei as "hard" or "very hard". using that as a baseline will help.

they can be as hard or not as hard but still have many steps to complete the whole "kill" a boss with 5 hard steps would be fun and it would put players to the test as well.

Oh just to say- if you have any ideas of something that would catch players out and make a puzzle boss harder- take for example the bombers on lixie or the igaras on pei- send me an in game mail please.
