how about a 176 GB (that's right gigabytes) client.log file (filled all the free space left on my 250GB ryzom drive.)

there needs to be options to disable all but major faults being logged, not logging a sound or the other 'WRN'(warnings) would go a long way to cutting things down...
using a boss macro shouldn't produce lines of 'WRN' because the mob isn't in range....

that or they need to have a size limit hardcoded so that when they reach X size they start deleting the oldest entries in the log....

the really crazy part is that in 12 hours of being afk, i'd wrote over 96GB of log file... there's just no logical reason to log every little thing

@ulu is there a client.cfg line that would totally disable logging, 99% of the things in there are INF (information) and WRN (warnings) neither of which is the result of the game not working correctly (except when the log file eats all the free space on a drive)

(still waiting on the "new" ryzom_client_r.exe that was promised back in feb or march... could be nice to have that...)

talkIRC, making sure that someone OFFICIAL solves the problem.... is like trying to catch smoke but i could get lucky.

honestly wasn't willing to wait the 20 minutes my text editor program was going to need to open a 170 GIGABYTE file, so i couldn't say for sure, but it's often can't find this ID on this sheet, or can't find or load this sound, ect; nothing of real use.

should also note that it took me 3 google searches to find a text editor program that would open files lager then 4 GB (first search) 10GB (second search) unlimited file size (final search) before i could find a text editor that would even attempt to open a file that big

the bottom line is that the client is logging everything, warnings, information, ect. it should only log real errors, not information/warnings.

given their massive size, i couldn't even share it with the dev's if there was a problem (i recall many years ago a picture competition where my 40 MB file was too big to enter into the competition)... how would i upload a 170 GB log file?.... bottom line: there should be a line in the config to disable ALL BUT CRASHES. just a massive waste of hard drive space, and i'm always having to delete a massive log every few days.

deleted the logs on 5-19-23... today it's alerady showing as 28 MB's.... i'll post exceprts from that log because it only took 20 seconds to load, but it's the same BS every time.

those are a few exceptarts from the first 1% of the current log file.... logging a whole lot of BS.

all i want is a command to disable ALL loging, since i can't get one to only log true errors, not just give me warnings and information that doesn't change the fact that the game plays just fine for me (other then the massive log issue)

so many WRN (warning) and INF (information) entries it'd make you puke, and it's the same BS over and over again, none of which is game breaking.... untill the file fills my hard drive and i try to make a map marker, or log out (which if the log file has ate all the HD space, just crashes out because there's no room on the drive to save your data on)

so i ask ANYONE: is there a way to TOTALLY disable logging?

i've tried most logical things like adding to config.ini a line that says things like this:
DisableLog = 1;
and
NoLog = 1;

but neither of those have done anything to solve the problem, not sure what else to do, i can't just make the ryzom folder read-only either, because then you couldn't save when you log out, or make a new map marker.

tried to make the log files 'read-only' as well, then ryzom just creates client0001.log (and limits those files to 5 MB each) i had to delete over 1000 log files after that attempt.

this isn't a new issue, but it's sure making it's self known again in a very big way.

after thought: not sure why the verboselog = 1; in the config file isn't working anymore, it had stopped this problem in the past, but now doesn't appear to work as a solution to insane log files.

deleted the logs on 5-19-23... today it's alerady showing as 28 MB's.... i'll post exceprts from that log because it only took 20 seconds to load, but it's the same BS every time.

You copy-paste ryzom_client_r.exe to different accounts and run them at the same time from same directory? This might interfere with log rotation, I don't have first hand experience in that.

Log lines you quoted seem to be standard startup log and not the dominant ones that are filling the file when ingame.

Anyway, client_default.cfg has NegFilters for DBG, WRN, INF that you can add to client.cfg and then lines containing those strings would not shown in log.

In your case, the string fragment what you want to match against is {" ", "."} (space and dot characters) which should match most lines.

lolx, my bad, i'd ment to write it verboseLog = 0; (which is how it's set in my config.cfg) but because i was already thinking about the new lines i'd tried to add to my config.cfg like DisableLog = 1; and NoLog = 1; i'd accidently wrote the verboseLog = 1; which is wrong.

also karu, thanks for the information about the client_default.cfg lines to remove the dbg, wrn, inf stuff, i'll be adding those to my client.cfg as soon as i post this :)
