I realize it was a short time thing, and the devs even said it would end.
BUT I have been wondering, why the free tool trade, was stopped.
Many of us really kind of require the LOW COST higher lvl tools.
Since many of the higher level (Q250) tools are priced so high, it causes the wpn, and armor makers, to outrageously over price their manufactured items, just to cover costs.
ALL I AM ASKING IS THIS:

PLEASE BRING BACK THE "FREE TOOLS"

....if only for the subbed players

thank you,
Thenameless

Does'nt single overseer mission pay for pick and craft tools many times over?

Hello!

Those who require the q250 tools can indeed get about 1k dappers/mat at overseers, indeed. Just a matter of having the right plans, which shouldn't be difficult.

"It's shite being tryker! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of Atys! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some people hate the Matis. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are COLONIZED by wankers. Can't even find a decent culture to be colonized BY. We're ruled by effete arseholes. It's a shite state of affairs to be in, Marceline, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any ****** difference"

Have you tried keeping the stuff you grind, instead of dropping it? I can't tell for q250 tools, but a q150 armor craft tool will pay its price many times over if you sell to vendor the stuff you grind.

The sarcastic in me says: "Because the devs want to create an artificial climate of scarcity in a world where very few things are actually scarce." The reason for the high prices on the markets is that people do mark the items up -- they don't have to. Remember -- what you see on the market is what *didn't* sell !

The answer would be to bring back the status quo ante where there was one class of tool for all work, or at least reduce the prices.

Mjollren is right, however. If you sell your grind craft to the vendor you can pay for the tools, even the q250. A glitch (??) in the programming means that you can craft up to q240 with a q200 crafting tool (as long as you make sure your mats are q240 as well). The only q250 tool you really need is the pick (to dig in any q250 region, no matter what level you are actually digging). Thankfully the vendors have priced the high level pick at a less exorbitant level.

Once you have a few armor plans at reasonable levels (and one armor bit close to mastery) you can make oodles and gobs of dappers at the Natae Overseers by crafting crap Matis (high quality) armor using basic and fine mats that you can get in several non-aggro areas of Void. I swear that the overseer only looks to see if the pieces have the shiny trim on them.

Once again, it is lowbie players who pay for the failed attempts to manage the economy.

here here, i'm with this (still) tools are over priced imho, i don't do overseerer missions, so i know nothing of the huge dappers everyone is always talking about (and i'm a jeweler in mid levels, one of 2 very low paying very few missions, craft) selling grind gear to the merch's does make a few dappers, but when one considers the time that adds, as well as the challenge of having to find a merch to sell to in the wild, makes that far less then apealing. bring back the free tool trade, only players that read the forums or knew about them will use them, and if the dev's bring it back and don't tell anyone they did it, it'll become a new ryzom secret, one not even i would write a spoiler about :)

but i'm with you on the over priced tools and other various things that cost so much, when i buy a tool from a merch for the said price, and then can't sell it for more then 17 dappers back to the merchant, there's something very wrong with the high mark up.

bring back the free tools.

The tools seem very expensive and do not seem to last long enough. I am a newbie with primarily newbie tools, but some of my guild mates have taken me places where I need the Q100 and Q200 pick (which they generously purchased for me).

Short experiment:

Crafted a packer of mats, that's about 50 MQ MA vests. At a range of q120-180, most of them were sold to vendor at 300+ dappers, for a rough estimation of ~15k dapper profit. Wear on the armor tool was under 10 hitpoints, meaning I can do quite a few craft sessions before it dies **. Even adding in teleport costs to a town and back, tool and pick(s) cost, I believe you easily recoup your investment in tools, simply by not dropping the stuff you made.

Even high end regions have easy access to dig spots - Lost Valley from HoP, FF from Oflovak's, Loria from Avendale (or HH kara), Grove of Confusion is the only one requiring a pact or a long trek. A carefully chosen dig spot with a hawker nearby will also eliminate the trouble of trekking back and forth.

Of course, if even this minimum of organization somehow reduces a player's freedom in your opinion, I can't stop anyone from requesting free tools.

** edited because on a second practice I figured tool life doesn't decrease linearly
