IDEAS FOR RYZOM

So basically my idea consists if we had a friend, and have him in the contact list, it would allow us to know where that friend is.

Optional idea. It's not really necessary.

Could be nice yes !
Well there is actually a little problem. As you can put anyone you want in your friendlist you would know all their position, that could create some "abusing" ( like pk ( for the pvpist), or i dont know wich perversing thoughts :p).

So maybe +1 for the idea, but with "restrictions". Like allowing people to be able to see you or not.

#3 [en]

You can see team members' locations, and team participation is fully voluntary.

As Maxxye notes, being able to stalk anyone by adding to friends list raises some privacy concerns. I note 'no', sorry.

It's a nice ideas and maybe there are two different ways to "fix" the privacyc concerns (which I do share, btw).

1) If we stick to the "I can see the location of friends" idea, then we could restrict it to those friends who have both befriended each other. However this would have to be implemented with some thought because potentially it could cause more traffic to and from the server everytime a player goes online, and every time a friend of that player goes online. Somehow I doubt that the Ryzom devs at this time would alter the network protocol. But what do I know.

2) Alternatively, the already implemented team functionality could be extended to leagues. Nothing prevents you from inviting your friends into a league as soon as you go online. /leagueinvite is the command, iirc. In teams you can already see where everyone is located. So this could be extended to leagues as well. I'd vote for a different color, though. We could keep red stick figures for team members and adopt orange for other league members.

-1 for friends listing locations, too many potential issues, as other's have listed already

+1 for the idea on leagues offered by irfidel as an alternative

Erm??? What's the point?

If the person is really a friend, just send them a /tell. If they want you to know where they are, they can tell you.

+1 for the league location idea too.

A possible solution to the privacy settings would be an "eye" button next to each person's name on your friends list (next to the online, information and tell buttons).

Clicking this button would enable that particular person to view your location on their map. You could in fact have 2 buttons, letting the friend see your location and enabling their location on your map. The latter would only work if they had let you see their location.

Also +1 for the league locations. Many a time have I wished that could happen during SNs.

There is already a privacy solution:
Reallocdev
Reallocdev
/showOnline <mode>

where <mode> can be one of:
0: everybody (guild, people that have me as a friend, and people on my ignore list) (default)
1: guild and people that have me as a friend
2: guild only

This is now partially implemented (server side only). For those that want to limit their online visibility to guid and friends, type:

/a showOnline 1

To only show online for guildmates do:

/a showOnline 2

To revert to default behavior, do:

/a showOnline 0

There is no feedback yet. I will try to add a short confirmation message in sysinfo for next patch,

However, I think the Geolocation idea is bad for one reason only: There are already enough PWs as it is (worse than I've ever seen it) and this would only add to the situation.

Very good point on the PWs.
