Background:
Today some ppl I know got banned for 3 days for 'exploiting' a bug in the game client that lets em sell item's upto 99999% not 9999%
I won't disclose here how the bug works; since that would be bannable aswell.
As this bug was how it looks actually intended to be ingame but the game client is mis configured from what I understand (even heard on linux you can fix it so the client allows 5 9's without using the bug)

Idea:
Atm the traders in this game are never used, nobody will ever sell sup q250 maga amps for 9999% markup, even for most mats it's way to low and they get bought if you sell em on a hawker and tp to town to store em an hour later ppl might have bought em already at 4 9s.

Why not fix this bug or allow ppl to sell at 5 9s markup? That way it would be possible to ask a couple of milion for the sup q250 crafted gear and it might boost the use of the markets. It's still free you aren't forced to buy something for 2mil if you don't want to but you get the option.

If fixing the client isn't an option why don't make the bug public as a hidden feature? So ppl can use it and sell their good stuff on the traders. On the old server i've bought stuff for 20mil and more when I needed it and it was nice. Now with prizes changedeven with 5 9s you'll be max at 2mil or so wich isn't to much.

Yes ppl will abuse it for storage but then again didn't ppl already do that anyway?

no need to ban someone for this retarded reason.
either add a feature to purchase a bulk upgrade for the apartments or do this ^^ and this ^^ wouldn't even need any change to code since it can clearly already be done. just make it a 'legal' practice.
if people want to spend tens of millions on mats then let them.

people have done far worse and have never been banned.

As one person who reported this bug/exploit to support, I have to say that I find the banning to be an excessive reaction. A simple warning to "stop it" should have been sufficient. If, having gotten a warning, the people using the exploit did *not* "stop it," then the next step could be a temporary ban.

In my email I asked: "Can this be bugfixed so that any % greater than 9999 is simply converted to 9999?" I would equally support a bugfix that allowed 99999 to be legitimately input. (Preferably with release notes. :) )

(@Bittty) Technically a ban is intended to be permanent, a 3-day period is a temporary suspension :p Probably the persons in question got a suspension instead of a warning because of repeated instances of exploitation.

(back ontopic)

Personally I see a two-tiered merchant system cap:
- raw materials up to only 300%
- items, no cap or a very large cap

People exploiting the merchant NPCs for storage should be indirectly discouraged to do so - lowered cap means higher probability of the mats getting sold. We have apartments, mektoubs and guild halls designated for storage, using the side-effect of high merchant price only adds stress on the server when all the players keep loading the lists, then filtering out the 9999% stuff. Large amounts of mats belong in a personal storage system (e.g. your own GH).

Items of low value are already well-served by the current cap, however items with special properties are not. I'm specifically thinking of Xtarsia's 100% across the board amps, which sold for some tens of millions I think. Assuming people would dare use the merchant system for such rare items, nothing short of an unlimited cap is future-proof. Might as well lift the cap then.

increasing markup % is a dirty hack to work around the problem.

fix would be to allow user directly set final price, but to allow that, npc also needs to charge users for 'listing' service to discourage high markup used as free storage. ie, npc adds own % to final and buy-back price.

First I think that a 3 days ban is a quite harsh punishment for a minor offense (unless there have been previous warnings which have been ignored). And I would plead to consider a remission of the penalty, e.g. to one day.

But second I would ask not to touch the de facto storage extension provided by the merchants. It has been extremely helpful when grinding crafting and digging for.

Yet I fail to see that it is necessary to protect high level materials from being resold using excessive pricing. Those who cannot go home to their apartment or guild to put their sup or exc mat there must live with the risk that somebody buys the stuff. And those willing to sell 97% amps at a higher price than the resale system allows are free to use the bazaar forums or to announce their offer (in a non spamming way) on universe channel.

please see the bulk upgrade ideas, they are for storage issues fixes, but since after request's for years for features like that, we've found work-arounds. give us one or both of those and suddenly there's no need to use the merchants as storage system.

there's a mis-match in the server/client codes that is subject to use by those that know basic features of ALL OS's since the days of the first unix systems. i'll not go into this here, it's not the place for it, but anyone with a little time doing any editing of text know the keyboard shortcuts to do it. the server allows 99999%, it's wrote in the code that way, the client is mis-matched and only allows 9999%, it's been reported in the past by several players, and has not been fixed, other "bugs" like this one that have not been fixed over the years have become "undocumented features" (is a direct quote of a CSR describing these long unfixed bug's)

i don't want to get off topic, but would like to say that some of these "undocumented features" lead people to make false claims, they do this without proper knowledge of things that have always been intended, some of these are for RP use and/or events.

anyway, there's no harm to the market system for anyone to use the higher sale price, if a homin is willing to knowingly buy something so expensive, they are making a choice to do so, as i'm sure no one is there in real life with a gun forcing them to do so.

(this post as well as other's i'm working on are related to some slightly extream punishments for what's been considered another of the "undocumented features" in the past.)

also like to say sorry for my slightly off-topic wandering, sometimes i tend to do that.

here are links to the ideas i spoke of, notice the strong feelings in favor of these ideas based on the poll results please, the numbers should speak for themselves.

guild hall bulk upgrade

apartment bulk upgrade
