The crafting in this seems very complex, which is good. Before I invest a lot of time... I am looking for something that crafting doesnt end up being useless, example, I just downloaded everquest 2, and was gonna start the long haul to lvl 100. I started crafting my own gear, and then i went to a cave and killed some monsters, the gear from that was 10 times better than even the best stuff i could craft. I found out thats true all the way to end game. The other thing is are there any differences between crafters, or does every one just make the same stuff?

Thanks for any help.

Apart from armour parts dropped by npc bosses, which are very hard to get, all gears of any worth are player made.  As to your other question, all players have the opportunity to learn all craft patterns, but recipes vary greatly.  There are some recipes that are common knowledge, but many crafters do a great gollum inpersonation with their recipes :P

Making recipes for pvp is something that I truly love in this game. Weapons in particular differ massively in their stats and personalising them to yourself and your gameplay is something that will benefit you greatly. Could talk about recipes all day but basically to answer your question: yes there are differences in players recipes especially concerning weapons and also armour.

Thank you guys very much for the quick answer, I will get tonight then:) Sounds good to me, only game left than with crafting like that. Wish it had better graphics, but that is a small thing.

You do get a few items from Silan missions and Sage missions on ML, but otherwise its all player made. I dont even know why the merchants are stocked with generic basic gear... its useless unless you want it for cosmetic reasons...

#6 Report | Quote[en]

Although you can craft great gear it takes ages to level up each item. It is therefore unrealistic to craft your own gear. It's so much faster to level fight than to level crafting of every possible item you need. But maybe after some months or years you'll be able to craft some items for others, maybe even some for yourself.

Depends rubik, I've known players that mastered diggs and crafts way before they ever tougth about mastering magic or melee. It migth be slower but it depends on your playstyle. (and thats coming from me a non crafter)

Makasoul, don't let Rubiksmomo put you off Ryzom as a craft game.  Virg nails what is fun about this game in terms of craft.  Whether making gears for pvp, pve or whatever, everyone has their own preferences.  Just because you are not master does not not mean you cannot design recipes for your own gears, and then get someone else to craft them for you.  It has taken me 3 years to master a nice selection of weapon craft, but I am VERY far from a master crafter.  Everytime I work on a recipe, talk to other crafters, etc., I learn something new about how mats work/combine together; how u can balance stats - you cannot have max in all, far from it, and how to use what appears to be useless to make a good weapon for grinding with.  As a crafter, you will also have to go back and tweak recipes you have already made to take into acount what mats you have to any one time.  Anyone can grind craft skill to become a 'master crafter', but as Virg alludes to, being a Master Crafter is about knowledge, and the enjoyment taken in working out craft and recipes.  You can enjoy this side of the game and not be able make anything better than q10 staff.

Of course, it is more fun to be able to craft your stuff - BUT you can still really engage with the craft side of the game before you do :)

It is possible to level craft and other skills at the same time. For a long time now, I've been making my own 2 handed swords and keeping it going at the required level to match my 2 handed melee. So everytime I reached a level in melee that I could use a better sword (e.g. at 200 I could use a q210 sword), I would then level up my sword crafting until I could make a q210 2 handed sword.

It's a nice feeling the first time you go up against a mob wielding a sword you made yourself. :o)

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.

Thank you guys again. Nah I like crafting that takes a long time to master. I have to say I take it back about the graphics. Now that I am in game, and have everything maxed, its really good looking.

Crafting in Ryzom is relevant in a way like I haven't seen or heard of any other game. Because there are very few other alternatives for getting gear than from the community. (Being social could be wise.)
At the beginning, crafting is not easy to learn but once you understand the basic principle learning curve is steep.
But it is hard to master, not only in terms of leveling. Even with maximum level in a given craft skill there can be miles of difference between one crafter and another.
It all depends on intelligent combination of dozens of different crafting materials. Best materials can be extracted from bosses or out of the soil in the most dangerous areas on atys.
Moreover, many of those digging material depend on season, day time and weather.
Finding a simple but effective weapon or armour recipe can be an art in itself.

One thing hasn't been mentioned: there is a project in the Ryzom Forge to create tribe-specific weapons, whose plans could only be learned if you have enough fame with the tribe and you do a certain rite given by their npcs.

If you want to poke around the Forge, visit http://forge.ryzom.com/wiki/Main_Page

Yes, those weapons exist as Ryzom assets but they need find ways to add them ingame.

I would reccomend that all paid players get a magic or melee mastery ASAP, a) elemental magic is pretty easy to master, gives maximum dodge, and you will make many friends since teams can always use a nuker. b) melee will give you a ton of hp that will be useful when digging in higher level areas.

You dont have to ignore crafting though, you will get many materials from grinding levels, you just need to choose mobs that drop mats you will use for the crafting that you level

#14 Report | Quote[en]

Will also add there is a craft simulator: Kipeecraft.

You can use this to test out different recipes and whilst it isnt 100% accurate it is still very helpful. Hopefully someone can post a link as I have forgotten it.

sadly virg the official site is down for kipee craft, however.... i have a copy of the last official release that i will be happy to share with those that want it. (that would be version 1.1a) it was a very sad day when KC was removed from the ryzom world, maybe we'll be blessed with an equally powerful and versatile replacement one day.

should someone want a copy of KC 1.1a please contact me via IG mail or an IG tell. (warning that i'm afk as often as i'm active)

and to your questions, i think you'll be very happy with the depths of ryzoms crafting systems. (be ready to do many redo's)
