Lordoy homins. After a long discussion with homin ally Bittymacod i have a proposal i would like to set out for the developers of Ryzom. This feature is called the "Tame Rite".
Read below for the following rules and requirements.

RULES/ REQUIREMENTS

This feature will allow each homin the ability to tame a creature on the upper surfaces of Atys. To be able to access the rite each homins attributes (Constitution, Intelligence, Strength and Balance) must be at least level 200 or higher before he/she can even take the rite. Pets are only implemented to help homins with treks and daily travel and can only strike aggro. Pets attacking homins. are prohibited, that includes Duels, PvP and OP battles.

CREATURES: The creatures pertaining to the rite are linked to a certain race only being able to earn up to 2 pets per homin. One herbivore and one Carnivore (NON-AGGRO and AGGRO). For example

Tryker Race: Igara/ Torbak

Fyro Race: Timari/ Varynix

Zorai Race: Bawaab/ Ragu

Matis race: Arma/Cuttler.

THE TAME RITE:

After you have successfully reached the levels i have written above you are ready to complete the rite. You will venture to one of the tribes of the region based upon race you are.

Tryker: Corsairs

Fyro: Water Breakers.

Zorai: Icon worshippers or Hamazan seeds.

Matis: Green Seeds.

At one of these tribes there will be an NPC that could be called "Tame Trainer" who will give you access to the rite. It will begin by giving the "Tame 1" skill which will allow you to go find a yubo to tame and give him the ability to STAY. After taming the creature you must feed, travel with and fight with the yubo in order for it to gain xp, moving you toward tame 2.

Tame 2: Will give the yubo the ability to FOLLOW and ASSIT.

Tame 3: After reaching Tame 3 you can either decide to continue to train the yubo to higher levels or return to the Tame Trainer to unlock the 2nd rite to go out to find and tame your first NON-AGGRO pet. After you have tamed your NON-AGGRO pet you simply go through another 3 tame skills, (Tame 4, 5 and 6) to earn his abilities.

Tame 7: After reaching Tame 7 return to the Tame Trainer and unlock the AGGRO pet rite which allows you to tame an upper surface Carnivore. Each pet has its own HP and levels which cannot exceed pass the level 200.

NOTE: I advise you not to take your pet to a zone a lot higher than its level. If your pet dies you will have to complete the rite over but the levels will remain.

I hope you all agree with this post and I am very open to any suggestions or extra ideas that may make the feature better and easier for the developers to create.

Thank You.

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.

As Rahael's consultant on this I would like to point out a couple of minor "errors".

The three sublevels for each major level are Follow, Stay, and Assist. They must be trained by having your pet do those things successfully. The rite comes in three parts. Yubo Training, Peacable Training, and Attack Training.

Do Yubo Training Rite:
Level 1: Yubo Follow (select a wild yubo and attempt to get it to follow you using a stanza sort of like a reverse taunt. Feed it and keep it happy or it may wander off)
Level 2: Yubo Stay (Now that it's following, make it stay back to keep it out of the way when you are taking on big bads)
Level 3: Yubo Assist (When you tell it to, the yubo attacks what you are attacking.)

Do Peacable Training Rite:
Level 4: Peacable Follow.
Level 5: Peacable Sit
Level 6: Peacable Assist

Do Attack Training Rite:
Level 7: Attack Follow (like the others, but you have to stay alive while trying to tame it. :) )
Level 8: Attack Sit
Level 9: Attack Assist

I do think that if you lose your Yubo or higher pet you simply have to train a new one, not necessarily repeat the rite.

We thought of having the tamed beasts gradually grow to a level no higher than 50 below your maximum level. This would imply that the maximum level of any tame beast is 200 and that beasts higher than level 200 cannot be tamed. (Obviously Aen and Dante and little Pei have figured out how to bypass this, but they are Marauder NPC's.)

We selected the beasts based on racial characteristics and the use of certain animals by NPC's and the like. For instance, the Fyros got the Varinx because Aen has them. Tryker the Torbak because Dante uses them. Tryker got the Igara because the Tryker are the Children of the Wind.

Debate over particular beast assignments (with reasoning) would be appropriate. Note that we deliberately fixed Race (not civilization adheranc) and "tameable beasts". This means that Racial choice will actually mean something.

The main point was to keep to the theme that is pervasive in Ryzom: Nothing worth doing is easy. Nothing, ever, results in a homin becoming "uber." Also, I kept in mind the Remickla Doctrine.

Now a bit of commentary:

This is clearly going to involve a LOT of work on the programmers parts. Developing the mechanics of Follow and Stay is not that difficult (since it is already in place for the Meks), but Assist might be a bit trickier. Linking the behavior to the use of stanzas will involve some detailed coding.

So: This won't happen this summer, or even next. It is not even a priority compared to bug-fixes. However, everyone I know has wanted at least a pet yubo for ever and ever.

This is high level additional content: It has to be carefully weighed for balance. It is intended to make choice of Race have consequences. (If you want a pet bird, you have to be a Tryker. Period.)

i see there is alot here to think about, but i for one and with this, i like the idea (while i'm still a bit away from 200, i would like to see something like this in the future, i agree bitty that this will be a major programming project, and my be too far out of reach for us right now, but i would also like to encourage dev's to really use the ideas that we come up with to impove the game, after all, it's susposed to be ever evolving, and things like this will keep in line with the boast's of the webpage.

Long ago and far away, I was a Creature Handler in SWG. First you captured a baby critter, then you trained it until it was grown. I had 3 cats that were quite fierce. Between us, we could handle almost any critter around. I felt safe traveling any place with my cats. In SWG you could sell fully trained creatures to anyone. So it was quite lucrative to capture, train and sell creatures. You would never get rich, but it was fun. Then, as they did with so many professions, SOE eliminated the Creature Handler and I stopped playing.

I voted YES. It would be an added dimension to an already awesome Ryzom!
