Hello,

If you are launching Ryzom for the first time or launching it after a patch and you get the following error message:

A failed assertion occurs

You need to upgrade your DirectX (or install)

Download and apply the upgrade from this site: http://goo.gl/7K9cY

If this does not solve the problem, try to activate the OpenGL option in the ryzom_configuration_rd which you can find in the Ryzom folder.

Other games - they give you a cookie whether you succeed or not, in fact you don't even have to participate. Ryzom takes your cookie, eats it in front of you, and slaps you 2 or 3 times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

This bug first appeared after one of the post-merger client updates in November 2012.

The solution was first posted by Jarnys, 27 November 2012,
http://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/15434/17 #17 then referenced in an official posting by Tamarea later that very same day.

In a different thread the same day, Gasket got the same problem and solved it by going on CEB for advice, which he publicized here: http://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/15470/1# 1

On 2 December, another person (Xev) reported it and I posted a link to the initial solutions, together with clear instructions on how to install the fix. Jarnys, at that time and in that thread, had further commentary on the use of Auto in the configure file, vs. OpenGL or DirectX.

ON 3 May 2013, Jiro complained of the same problem and I answered with a reference to the original posts. http://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/17235/1# 1

On 20 May the problem was reported in FR by Wyndeer and the solution was posted by Kemen, a CSR. http://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/17251/1# 1

ON 14 June 2013, Lasabo posted the problem and was answered by Wrox (amongst others).

Astarth reported the problem on 28 June 2013 and was answered by myself.

It isn't until Pirus posts on 21 September, 2013 that your name appears anywhere in my search, well after Jarnys finds the solutions, and myself, various others, and three different CSRs, reference it. In addition, you must have sent the actual link privately since it isn't in your posts.

In 24 May 2014 Tiximei responds to a call with a direct link to the download site, bringing the total of CSRs to four, although it is true that none of them are referencing you.

OK, I'm going to stop. The point is: It's not *your* fix, since it was discovered by Jarnys and used by many people before you mentioned it. Further, it was published by a CSR within hours of it's being discovered, so your snide comment about CSRs is also invalid.

Somebody is very bored and also very butt-hurt. This community used to be great but now even our "nice'" homins true colors come out. I have never been known as nice before you bother replying. Also you are just as bad with your "snide" comment which is not really needed.
This fix has helped many people so it really doesnt matter where the hell it originated but a history lesson is always fun. Enjoy being the police for weird and irrelevant forum posts. I welcome you to the team!

the link below will avoid the windows 10 advertisment (which is confusing people into thinking that it will download windows 10. that is not the case, but the way the page looks is indeed very misleading.)

link that will start download of DIRECT X needed for ryzom as soon as you click on it

now you have a one click solution. (still from microsoft, so you can feel confident in your safety.)

believe it or not, it's a version of direct x 9.0c the newer versions do not have some of the files from direct x 9.0c, and that's what causes the problems on windows vista and newer pc's (because from vista and up they have direct x 10 or higher) but fear not, that will only put the missing files in, because the installer is set up to keep whatever file is newest (something microsoft got right.)

Bonjour,
Ouf ! Je viens de changer ma configuration et j'ai bien cru ne pas pouvoir revenir sur Atys.
Heureusement certains ont toujours la solution, merci !
Il faut donc bien télécharger et installer le fichier directx_Jun2010_redist.exe.
Fonctionne sous Windows 10 x64 avec Corei5 6600 (sans carte graphique).
A très bientôt sur le jeu :)
