I feel it's formative to do it solo at least once

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.
Other games - they give you a cookie whether you succeed or not, in fact you don't even have to participate. Ryzom takes your cookie, eats it in front of you, and slaps you 2 or 3 times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

Bittty - the main idea is that you don't have to wait for the weekly trek done by Phaedras. You can do it *now* if you are ready to incur a bit of DP.

1. Underspring, along with the other level 250 Prime Roots regions, are swarming with kitin patrols (kirosta group that only attacks homins).Considering their aggro range (65m), I would never recommend someone to trek Jungle <--> Desert via Underspring. It is probably still doable, but the odds are awful. If you die on the Outback Ramp there are still chances to get a resurrection, but in PR I can't think of 3 players who would risk coming.
2. Winter is generally the worst season to travel. Lots of carnivores and kitins seem to breed, and exactly those you don't want on your tail.

“What to do if you find yourself stuck in a crack in the ground underneath a giant boulder you can't move, with no hope of rescue. Consider how lucky you are that life has been good to you so far. Alternatively, if life hasn't been good to you so far, which given your current circumstances seems more likely, consider how lucky you are that it won't be troubling you much longer.”
