So there's been a lot of fuss lately about trekking, particularly why we should trek and what it's worth. For the most part, trekking doesn't do much beyond helping obtain teleport pacts, seeing the world, or perhaps moving mektoubs to the next OP battle. After you do things a lot, they get pretty mundane; same for any task, but I don't see why we at least can't add more variety. So I propose a few new mission types...

Courier / Courier Escort

The first is a long trek mission, meaning this could take you to different region (i.e., forest to lakes). Someone has a message in the form of a letter, or a parcel of items they want you to bring and they're willing to pay handsomely for someone to deliver it.

"Why trek when we can just teleport?," you may ask.

Well, there's a catch; they don't exactly trust you to not pilfer or read the contents. So maybe they've arranged checkpoints, each giving you the next segment of information to go on to the next checkpoint, or maybe they'll even send a homin to carry the package while you protect them as you travel the dangerous wilderness.

Maybe require PVP flag to be active, with decent compensation if you are successful, to give Marauders a chance to... well, do what Marauders do, in the third suggested mission type.

Search and Rescue

This one is more of a short trek; rarely leaving the current ecosystem.

Some homins want packages sent, others are in a more dire need. Perhaps a foolish pair of tryker decided to prance around in the Lagoons of Loria, but got into trouble, so one used his only pact back to get to the nearest town to get help, but is still adamant on coming along to ensure their friend's safety. So you travel with him, on foot, back to the conflict site to see his friend under attack!

You've got a time limit, so act fast, for you will fail if time runs out or if they die!

Interception

This mission would tie into the Courier mission type to create a more dynamic experience and add another reason for pvp.

A scout has received intel from a source up ahead and needs a small band of mercenaries to help intercept a package from an enemy faction. Find them and obtain the courier's parcel. If you keep the courier alive and lead them back to the scout's end destination for interrogation, you may be entitled to extra rewards.

Some scouts could even require the courier to remain alive for an even higher reward, or risk penalties for failing.

Well, there you have it. Three mission ideas that could make trekking a little more worthwhile, with some added danger and rewards, of course.

Good post Wirroy, nice to see someone putting some time into coming up with suggestions to add fun, rather than the usual ... well, you know!

Another idea to add to your list, not sure if you ever heard of GeoCaching?

Hidden packages around Atys, in various places. you follow the clues, find a package, take something out and put something back in for others to find. The higher the region, the better the prize [ofc with the usual risks of being ganked by evil Marauders or hungry mobs!]

Everone has an opinion, and of course are entitled to have one, but others are equally entitled to decide whether they choose to agree or disagree. Acting like a complete Muppet isn't likely going to change minds or win support :)

This is a good suggestion to be added eventually. I’m not sure how many resources are currently available to program the new NPCs and missions, so in the meantime there are scout, prospector, and frontier supplier missions that could be done. Additionally there are the Kitin camp delivery runs. There was a push to setup the water and beer road as a Occupation type mission- not sure if that idea has been rejected or postponed due to it benefitting only two nation groups.

I'm not sure about adding a PvP aspect, but otherwise, I really like these suggestions. I would just hope the escort missions don't end up as horrible as in other MMOs. (Nobody likes them. Nobody.)

I think a lot could be accomplished by simply working with what we already have. Supplier missions aren't really worth doing right now (not much pay + harsh time limits if you don't know exactly where to find the NPC), but that could be changed. Kitin camp deliveries are in the same boat. They require around an hour to do (at least forest does), barely pay for themselves in terms of dappers, so the only reward is not that many faction points. Especially the low level zones award pitiful amounts, even at max fame. I would like the rewards buffed/changed, or maybe the missions being randomized, so it's not the exact same route every single time.

There is also the Encyclopaedia, which could definitely be worked with. Right now it's just kind of there, just like achievements. Maybe interesting titles could provide more incentive to explore.

All in all, I like the ideas in this post, as well as the direction you took it - positive reinforcement instead of punishing those who dare use a game mechanic.

I don't really know, but can the old-ish players have access from Silan?

If not, a trek sounds good!

These ideas have some good potential. I like 'em. They might breed some good ideas for some NCP missions too. Thanks Wirrow. :)

This exists already.

Great idea, would love it! And it could be a nice way of earning the new implication.

This one also sounds great, might be a bit complicated since it would need some sort of live info of who is doing Courier missions and assigning them to a Faction so they can automatically have an enemy one :)

Implying we have enough players participating (that i doubt), it could be nice.
But this would need the player doing missions to activate tag or at least been auto tagged if we want a open world Interception game.

If its just one region of the map, then this idea is best to use in structured PvP project :)
