IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Construire ses fortifications sur OP/Build fortifications on OP

Build fortifications on OP

(sorry, google trad with little replay)

In the discussion here, the idea to add a more strategic aspect via various fortifications emerged.

This could be interesting to create barricades and siege machines during the OP. OP will not only a wave of brute force, but also a clever use of the land and what it has provided.

All these objects are selectable and attackable, with more or less following PV what they represent and the difficulty in putting in place (a wooden fence is faster to install and destroy, while pieces of raw bark is more hard to install and destroy too).

What it is possible to make easily
On the model of campfires and barrels, bring up the elements already in play: rocks, er sorry bark, like those that block the entrance to the kami Oasis or barriers of maraders camp ; towers, for example. These items should not be too easy to get either: for example, there is in every country a place where "miner" rocks (I'll keep this word for those big shapeless stuff because it seems to me more speaking although it is probably bark rocks), and these rocks is an object that occupies all the space in a mektoub. We must keep it that strategic, not suffice to spam a button to make them appear. The campfires, barrels, etc. also remain usable.

From what I know, this stuff can probably be set up via the ARK; but we need help by an expert in it to code the script. It's not easy, but doable, I think.

Maybe more difficult
It would be nice to add models to complete the paraphernalia of war: for example, I can't recall if a real wooden barricades exist in game, so it will require 3D modellers to make it. But Ryzom Forge haven't got a lot of modellers. And then I understood that this kind of addition asked a more complex patches, not sure this is obvious. But we can dream. For objects with particle system (like a fire pit or goo) forget it until the RC tool to manage the creation of particle systems has not been debugged; the latest designers who have used it have ended in depression ^^"

Even harder but so much fun
Siege engines *_*
Yeah if we start putting up barricades, it is normal that we want then spray them with katapulte (a kind of spear-bark using fire pockets kipesta :p). But ... there's no such object involved (see previous problem), and in addition would have to do this stuff attacks... If possible damage on good structures. It is a dream for a long time, unless people can use ARK to create it (possible ? I don't know).

Limitations?
As mentioned in the subject on campfires, I do not know if there is a risk of touching the limits of dynamic objects. In my view, if the construction conditions are a bit heavy (as homework bringing elements into toub from the other side of the card), it will be limited. I don't think that each participant in the OP want to make this effort, and if the buildings are raised too soon, the opposing team destroy it before the battle. What kinds of excesses it may do ? If the number of dynamic objects explodes the quota in OP, it might be possible to limit the number of pop by players (with all object) ?

It is also likely that some seek to put these fortifications except on OP. If access is blocked to Zora for newbies, for example, because a malicious guy posed barriers everywhere, it will not be terrible. On the other hand, it can also be fun to barricade the city when posting an attack of marauders. My personal opinion would be "let it go and watch." While most players use it to create new things, great; if it is used to annoy other, then it will sadly regulate it, for example by allowing to put these objects only on the area surrounding an OP.

Finally about the survey: I love the idea of adding a strategic dimension to the field during OP lot of fun, but I'm not a warlord. That's why I want to leave the possibility for true leaders of war, those who have the ability to place objects, to say in one click whether this idea seems bad or interesting! However, before voting, I invite you to change the idea, evolve it, see what can be good or bad in there, so in the end it will add fun or not.
