And how much do this 'third party provider' charge for their service? 10-15% + shipping?

Isn't that money that could be better spent fixing stability problems or attracting new players?

In reality, if there was a possibility of selling 12k T-shirts @ £6.99 + Shipping then (minus the third party fee) WG would stand to make a decent amount of income but, the reality is, the community is so small WG would need to re-invest any profits made from selling merchandise into a marketing campaign so people were aware that the merchandise is for sale in the first place thereby meaning WG would actually retain close to 0% of the money earned.

This is my question too. If this made money so Ryzom could hire more developers so they can develop new moduals or worlds in Ryzom, then it would definitely be worth it. At any rate, I still would drink coffee from a frippo mug and wear a Frippo t-shirt for sure! Who wouldn't want a giant Kincher T-Shirt too? :D
On another thought, it is inevitable that Ryzom should start copywriting all their artwork if they haven't already, because in the future, Ryzom can sell NTF's and get a nice amount of money for created artworks.

Thank you for your feedback and ideas, whether they were shared here, by email, on chat.ryzom or on social networks. Thanks to them, I'm starting to have a clearer vision of your requests, but also the beginnings of tracks to explore, which could lead to satisfy them.

We are only at the very beginning of this new adventure, and for the moment I am alone to work on it.

Those who are worried about us spreading ourselves too thin can rest assured that this project only involves marketing and not our developers.
Moreover, it doesn't require any initial financial contribution and we won't have to manage stocks or shipments, since it's print on demand. So we have nothing to lose by taking the plunge, but everything to gain.
Which brings me to answer a question that was asked, the profits from this online store should initially be fully reinvested in marketing to get new players, and later, if they are sufficient, also used to pay third parties to create a specific tool or content for the game.

I will of course keep you informed about the progress of the project, and encourage you to continue to give me feedback on the subject, offer your help and share your ideas.

If you want a retro disc format that hasn't seen much use in a decade, how about vinyl instead? It seems like a more popular format than optical these days, and a lot of purists prefer vinyl since it's "warmer".
