#1 Report | Quote[en]

Hello everyone. I had an idea that most will criticize (probably, which is nothing new) but I was thinking back to the previous PvP tournament (actually all of them) that was recently held and I believe that the format is flawed. Now, I do not join events like these, not because of the time (although I am normally sleeping since they seem to be scheduled for 19:00 or 20:00 GMT+0 and I currently live in GMT+8) but because they are rather dull. There is really no challenge, it takes place in a safe area, no real loss if you lose (maybe a dappers entry fee) and the prize is normally the same thing (a Marauder NPC HA set - if memory serves me) which is rather stale. The fancy title and bragging rights truly mean nothing when nothing is truly lost.

I propose the following which may seem extreme and in no particular order but why not:

1. The tournament should only be 1vs1 (no 2vs2 teams) – you are allowed to use heal eggs, stam eggs (say limit to a total of 25 for the entire tournament play of each) and any self-heals/auras that you have available – until you die.

2. The tournament should be held in the area in-between the entrance to Demon’s Lap and the Firebrands Tribe – it should also be held just after a server restart (say 4-hours to allow for Supreme nodes to be dug) – this way, the elements are also at play – really no different than a random encounter between toons on a happy jaunt through Prime Roots anyway.

3. The entry fee could be, let say, 1-to-2 million dappers (easy money for everyone to gamble away) – but the real fun now begins because if this is really going to be a “winner take all” then what should happen is that every loser needs to turn over his/her gear that was used for the event (weapon(s) / armor / jewels) to the CSR/SGM on-site who monitors the event. Then at the end of the tournament, the winner actually wins something of value (literally every piece of gear used by every loser – we need to figure-out a registration/monitoring system for all items but that should not be too difficult) and then there really is a sense of loss – if you want to throw in a squishy yubo, fine but let us make loss and value mean something.

I understand that this may seem or sound extreme but I truly believe that it would be far more enjoyable and entertaining than just fighting at the arena on Silan for an NPC HA set…and since this new breed of toons enjoy running around with an additional 2-to-3 alts attacking diggers, let us try to keep them happy with adventure, because their happiness is all that really matters and after all, they are the future for keeping Atys alive – (smile, pullup a chair and let the criticism fly) and possibly some actual, constructive feedback…

My motto in life is; "Life is simple, unpredictable, and beautiful but always remember that even though something ends, something new begins, so take a deep breath and move on." – Zatarga

P.S., I did not put this in the "Ideas for Ryzom" forums because even though it is a new idea, i seriously doubt that it would ever see the light of day but a fun discussion nonetheless.

This sounds like something for toons that have a subscription account. It would need to be in a different area for us Freebie toons but rather interesting.

I found your ideas quite interesting. However keep in mind that those events you talk about are player designed so it is them who decide how to do what.

Also whilst the recent rewards may seem "stale" for you, Marauder Items are not that common, especially for players who are just starting to enjoy PvP or those who dont have the fortune of pertaining to a huge guild or rich homin to equip them.

Why not design your own event with the rules that speak up to you? Might result in something nice.

Thanks for the feedback - actually I just did design it and you are the first person to comment so that tells me that no one is willing to lose anything and only want to gain something. This is why those events are terribly boring...true PvP should be just like an encounter in Forbidden Depths or anyother PR location. I think that if a toon is running around in the location that I want the tournament to be held with an autolauncher or bowrifle and the other toon is using Melee or Magic, then we have the elements at play, far more interesting....

You did?

Never saw an announcement or date, if I missed it then forgive my ignorance.

The point was, you can create an event with your rules, let players sign up and have it be less boring.

If you want the environment involved it's no longer really PVP. What your suggesting is PVPVE, no?

We do the PVP Tournaments in the 'boring arenas' so that's its ONLY PVP.

Which is boring but also as I mentioned, the reward is stale. The sense of loss is non-existent when you lose nothing. And no actually, my suggestion is PvP with the environment just adding excitement. When we dig SN - if no one is in the region - almost never is the environment involved but if someone is there, PvP but the environment still is not involved, just adds excitement if you do not focus. Besides, you trek through Nexus, the first warning is that you are entering a PvP zone...this to me is no different.

I understand you want to add some kind of loss to raise the stakes and this sounds like a good idea. But I'm still confused about what you exactly want with the environment. It is true there is little engagement with mobs at SN but I think that is only the case because it's against the rules to use mobs in PVP and 'aggro drag'. They would have to naturally come into hostile range by wandering mindlessly as Vorxas do and then attack if you want the environment to be involved. Unless by the environment you strictly mean the terrain? and nothing to do with the mobs themselves. But even then I'm still confused about what you mean.

This is a fun chat ^^ sorry I keep asking questions.

Would also like to add I believe Eggs should not be allowed to be used while flagged for PVP or in PVP regions. They are an unfair advantage. Recently actually, at SN, I was with my guildie chasing away another player from our digging location. They managed to taunt both of us in around chat and keep running away through all kinds of aggressive mobs safely and all he did was kept using invul eggs. He managed to run from the top line of GOO to the EF Portal. There is no risk for going into these PVP zones if you have like 80+ invul eggs.

I have no real ideas to make PVP zones riskier for all players other than to up the Death Penalty for dying in PVP zones in comparison to the normal areas.. But I can already see the upsetting parts of this idea to some players.

I only think Eggs should be used while Scouting for bosses or grinding.

Actually - not bad idea with uping the DP in PvP zones --- the only single drawback to that is for toons like myself who live with max DP anyway because we do not train anymore - but with uping the risk of loss for the tournament i believe would either attract more toons or only the serious hardcore toons would join -- the enviroment aspect i believe would add to stratagy instead of just who hacks harder - eggs would only be heal and stam as i mentioned earlier - no way invul would be allowed.

I think in a controlled environment (tournament setting) eggs would be fine but what if I (or a player) don't have any? I assume they would be provided some right?

But in raw pvp I don't think it should be allowed. Let's say in this scenario..

Player A is grinding, on plants right outside the KamiTP in Void. Player A is tagged. Player B, also tagged comes over and starts attacking Player A. Player A somehow catches B off guard and is now winning the 1v1 even though Player B started attacking first. Since Player A is now winning Player B chickens out and uses invul eggs or speed eggs to live. (Keep in mind by this time Player B and A are both Red Flagged)

I don't think it's fair that Player B is allowed to have a get out of jail free card. It's basically the same idea as if Player B ran to under the Kami TP while red flagged. But as we know, if your Red the TP safety area doesn't protect you. Also the same idea as no TPing away while Red. If your there to engage in the fight, you committed. Maybe in these PVP regions (wars too) once you enter it automatically flags you. Just makes you more committed.

Hope this makes sense?

Make sense - but i specificlly noted Heal and Stam and no, none would be provided - if you have none, oh well...and if you are tagged for PvP outside of a PvP zone, well you run that risk and if you start then turn tail and run, maybe next time you pick on someone your own size :P

#13 Report | Quote[en]

Yes, I'm aware of that risk... I was just giving an example where these eggs are overpowered in any PVP setting and have no place in the PVP setting and that I think they should somehow someway only be allowed in scouting and grinding. (except in your case. I do like your idea.) But why not would they be provided in a tournament setting? if one player simply doesn't have any and one does that's an unfair advantage, shouldn't the playing field be equal? especially if your only doing 1v1s. in 2v2s there is no need for HP and Stam eggs if you're a fluid team and can keep up the heals.

Only reason why is because each players gear is not equal - and not all toons have mastered all melee or all magic yet still join...that is the main reason why I made that statement - i do understand though :P

#15 Report | Quote[en]

I understand your thought too, I just think if the limit is 50 HP 30 STAM eggs and only one side has them I think its almost comparable to steroids xD

I think Tournaments should be kept to whats "natural" (HP-SAP-STAM power ups and all the aruas invul speed etc-)

How would you even prevent people from cheating and bringing more than the limit? would be hard to count all 50+ HP boosts someone has just by watching their HP bar x) would suck also if you mistake an egg boost for a Vedince life steal :p Eggs are like rare almost, for newer players that mastered fast or whatever and they never got the chance to get these eggs theyve never heard of just seems like were putting the newer group at the disadvantage and we want them to stick around ;p

I think it just causes more problems, and is easier to exclude them.
