#1 [en]

A few weeks ago I tried to play Ryzom and I had to patch. After every few files it showed a message "Patch failed". Window closed and I had to restart it and login again every time (for the next few files).
Today the same issue. Now after minimum of 15 logins I write this. It seems to "fail" after the 1 BYTE packages.
Is this issue known? Reinstall required? Any other hints?

One hint are replace your executable by the latest.
You can found the client 7z files here :

https://dl.ryzom.com/latest/

Download the correct one (for your OS), extract the files into your Ryzom folder to overwrite the ryzom_client executable.

having the same problem here as well, clicked the link and got an error 404 page not found.

would love to visit the ol' rootball again as more then just a ghost in chat......

1st edit: should also note that each time i try again (and i've tried at least 15 times now already) the size of the patch is different thus i'm still trying over and over again hoping that it will just work if i try long enough, good to see ryzom is still as wonky as always(and i'm already feeling right at home)

2nd edit: just keep letting it fail over and over again, if you've got the will, you will patch and be able to join (in my case after about 50 or so 'failed' patches as each time it does patch something, just not everything.)

As I told you in game, you are using an old patch. You need to reinstall Ryztart (the new launcher) via the official website: https://ryzom.com .

omega / v22.09.10208 #452444b4f (live)

that's the version i'm using, where on the forums can i find the 'current' version to compare?

everything works, i can connect and chat ect, and as the 2nd edit says, the patch completed just like it did in the past, with some wonky issues, ulukyn's old post on this very thread was my source to get the updated exe because my son was playing durring the 7 years i've been a ghost and i had to fix his for him when some of the updates came out.

unless i'm mistaken if it wasn't the correct version the server would deny me the ability to connect, choose my toon, and play. (in the past this was true, and it's true of all other games out there that a version mis-match would deny access outright, although this is ryzom we're talking about and buggy is part of the norm; after all we still have beta test era bugs that are still here on the live server)

edit: i've never used the launcher to play ryzom, i go directly to the client exe

Apart from comparing your version of the client with those of other players, I don't know.
On the other hand, it is possible to log into the game with an old version. But this causes bugs.

used uni chat to inquire about that, got a reply from another 18+ years of playing ryzom friend that had just done a fresh install to verify that i'm indeed running the most up to date client (again i've never used the launcher to play ryzom, always directly accessed the .exe)

and while you are correct you can log-in with an old version, the very first thing ryzom does when you log-in (before you can choose your toon to play) is to do an integrity check on all the files of the game, if anything doesn't match it forces you to either patch the game or to close the window; there is and to the best of my memory always has been no way around that integrity check, if that fails you can't move on to select a toon and play.

i digress at this point as the facts of the matter are that i don't use the launcher (never have) but i've fully patched (with the wonky patcher that's always been a little buggy) the game up-to-date and am on the server playing. we'll just have to agree to disagree on the details and let it go at that.

The ryzom_client doesn't know how to do the right checks. It does not check if the executable is the right one, it just checks if the files are present in unpack/, which is a huge source of bugs when applying patches with the client.

If you don't want to use the launcher to play, it is strongly recommended to either use Ryztart to check the installation or to redo a ryzom installation (keeping the data folder)

Soon, we will make available zip files containing only the exexcutable in order to be able to update the client manually and Ryztart will display both local client version and the latest client version from patch

awesome, thanks Ulu for making that crystal clear and Jadeyn i stand corrected about the integrity checking, my bad.
