IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Should wide corridors of rather safe passage (only lower leveled mobs) be placed for use by as yet lower leveled players?
Oh, yes! Definitely! the sooner the better for ryzom and its attractiveness for new players 8)

we need to imho make traveling from one location to the other (trekking) much easier than it now has become.

Due to the great difficulty involved therein, the practice of simply teleporting has become a 'no brainer' that is the obviously preferable mode of travel in ryzom.

Yet ryzom has so much beautiful terrain and such diverse flora and fauna, that it be a shame to simply teleport all the time once that has become possible personally.

Thus my idea: let us make traveling on foot much less dangerous. An idea by which to do that would be to pretty much restrict the more dangerous mobs to places frequented by the higher level players in order to dig favored mats or in order to pvp fight each other etc. Leaving wide and convenient corridors freely useable be even lower leveled players within which to travel from place to place.

Additionally, such mats as can be very useful to low-leveled (still growing in level ) crafters and players ought to be findable within those such easily traveled corridors.

Also events such as Kitin invasions and boss hunts such as be interesting to higher leveled players but way beyond usefulness (while too deadly) for as yet lower leveled players should take place without exception only outside of the safer travel cooridors.

Treks are a way to encourage teamwork, as well as a test of skill for those who seek to go it alone. Remove the community-building and the challenge for solo players, and treks become practically meaningless.

I agree with Gidget and Hendat.

I'm a Tryker with 70 dys of playedTime so far and I haven't yet trekked. People keep offering but I keep turning them down.

I will solo trek (really solo, with no alts) when I am able and it will give me a feeling of having joined the "big homins" club along with a sense of pride and self worth.

Another thought, having read through some of the lore. If it was easy to move between nations then the nations would probably be at war as they were in the old days before the Kitins. This would probably cause many problems and radical changes in game play.

Of course, I can understand the frustration that the difficulty of trekking brings when you're at a low level. But if you could just go through it, after a while there's no challenge. Teamwork is very important for a MMORPG, too many solo actions in the game could ruin the game. There are a lot of possibilities in every country to level and become stronger, that shouldn't be an obstacle. Exploring the area is a big part of Ryzom, and I would find it a pity if everyone only acted according to BM Guides. That makes it really monotonous.

I think I put it under "Make it easier because it's too hard for me alone".

So: no way at all.

I would add the following counterpoint: the lack of trekking groups encourages people to first explore the region where they start, finding appropriate mobs to level on, etc.

If you make trekking easier, you will get the effect that's already present at high levels: people flocking to the same spots for the same levels. Grinding 1h-weapons? No brainer, just head out to lakes and murder some stingas! You never need to bother figuring out what mobs are good for 1h fighting in the jungle, or forest...

As for the idea of "corridors": the regions are actually quite safe if you take the time to find openings. There are few actual choke-points, places where you *need* a team, most of the time you just need to figure out an alternate path. Even then, grinding a skill to level 100 and having invul/mpa/speed will let even a beginner finish a world trek alone...

If you follow the Lore version of events, prior to the Great Swarm, Atys was a peaceful planet! That changed once the Kitin had been disturbed, and Atys is now a planet ravaged by a Kitin threat (which makes it a dangerous place). Why then, would you undo that to add safe corridors that Homins / Homines can wander safely up and down at will?

If you ignore the Lore aspect, part of the fun of Ryzom is learning how to interact with, and ultimately defeat the various Kitin whether by levelling until you can kill them, or learning to sneak past them. Why would you want to remove fun from the game by parking the Kitin off at a safe distance?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :-)

So then, 'before the Kitin invasion, Atys was a peaceful planet' <-- in that case then my proposal fits right into that lore. 8)

For since then...: 'Atys is now a planet ravaged by a Kitin threat (which makes it a dangerous place' <-- and my proposal serves to defeat that invasory tide, or at least to make an honest attempt to do so and at that in a manner making Atys more attractive to newcomers and to oldtimers alike ;)

I think we see it differently :-)

The kittin are a part of Atys, and learning to deal with them is an important part of the game. Parking them off at safe distance, so we can merrily skip from a-to-b without paying attention to them doesn't fit into the Lore at all, it in fact breaks it completely.

Homins / Homines are meant to survive on what is now a harsh planet, ravaged by a threat from Kitin (Thanks Burning Spear :P). We're not meant to sew curtains, darn socks, and bake cup-cakes :P

If the Kitin are a problem, cast your mind back to the Silan mission 'Hunters & Prey #2' in which you are asked to go to the Hunting Grounds and, whilst remaining hidden, observe the Bodoc. The missions is there for a purpose, to teach you to watch the movements of the mobs and to help you learn to safely bypass them or, like a true hunter, pick your moment to strike!

Running round willy-nilly with mobs parked off at safe distance implies that, in some way, Hominkind are able to control them, which we can't. If we could, we'd tell them all to go back underground, treking would be pointless, crafting weapons / armour would be almost redundant, etc.

What maybe a useful compromise, after finishing the Hunters & Prey mission, there is no notable reward. Nor is there a need to observe any of the other mobs to gain the same knowledge of their movements. Adding some sort of reward (maybe something simple like [% reduction in agro range]) for monitoring the movements of the various carnivore that helps in some way to deal with them could be useful.

Was this thread sarcasm?

... Due to the great difficulty involved therein

What difficulty? With some patience even a level 1 toon with no auras/eggs/anything can trek on his/her own. It's not a matter of difficulty but one of learning to be aware of your surroundings and turning yourself into a skilled sneaker.

Tryroamer
Leaving wide and convenient corridors freely useable be even lower leveled players within which to travel from place to place.

There are always the City surroundings, q50 Regions, q100 Regions, q150 regions... These are meant to be places where you can travel and train if you are a "low-leveled". A --not only in number-- "high-level" can sneak through the unsafest corridors. Turning 250 areas into safe passages removes the little to no endgame Ryzom offers.

--

Trekking is without a doubt one of the game's most important aspects. It serves the purpose of teaching you how aggro works, how to walk around Atys and motivates teamwork and socialisation. Naturally this is all dependant on your trekking experience as an individual and how much you learn to be better as a player, take that away by making it easier though, and we're left with a wicked version of Pokémon.

Counter idea: Stay and explore low level regions, grind some levels, subscribe and when you're strong enough trek by yourself or ask for a group.

Also a No way at all on my side.
