hello and i hope this is the right spot for this post.

i'm new to ryzom and have been playing a little bit on and off. recently i had a mission that wanted me to find a spot to dig something up, but the little compass didn't tell me where to go. i'd ask in region and got no answer, then asked in universe and someone said to check the map on bmsite.net.

when i first found the map they were talking about, i searched for the item and suddenly there were all these little icons on the map... but when i zoomed in on the map of silan there wasn't a single location listed.

so now i would like to try to get in touch with someone at the bmsite but have no idea how to do so. given how much information the larger world map shows, i'm sure there would be a number of players that could help collect the data for silan.

ryzom seams like an amazing game with one of the best communities i've ever encountered in my years gaming. i really look forward to the future in this game and once i've reached level 50 in everything i think i'll be ready for the main land.

I would suggest ryzom.silenda.de for SIlan spots, slightly more data.

Have you tried using the feedback page on bmsite? http://ballisticmystix.net/?p=feedback

rubixal,

i believe there are a few BM players still in game first off.

i'm inclined to agree that the silan map on the BM site does lack a lot of data, and i would be willing to try to help fill in what i can for the BM should the desire that. (given the number of long time players that still have a toon in silan i'd say there would be a large number of us that would/could help out)

BM is a wonderful site to find all types of data related to ryzom without a doubt. and i would be very happy to try to offer any help personally i can.

as for the waiting for level 50, once you have completed all the missions in silan your ready for the mainland (fight, magic, craft, harvest, kami, karavan, chaing)

save your dappers in silan, the best gear you can get there is won from the missions (unless you plan to live in silan forever, then there are some crafters in silan that can make wonderul gear)

thanks for the complements about ryzom, we always love to see things like that, and last but not least: WELCOME TO RYZOM!! (i hope your stay is long and joyous)

wow you guys are fast.
thanks for the answers.

didn't know about that site mjrollren, i'll give it a look.

talkirc
i want to stay in silan at least till level 50. i feel that will help me understand the game better.

rubixal

ps. why a second site for the info about silan when the BM site is so well done?

#5 Report | Quote[en]

ok, good luck and have fun.

MJ i totally forgot about that site, but i like rubixal's ? about why needing a 2nd site, i'll send karu a ingame mail and ask her about getting more data on the BM site map for silan. that way new players can use just one site from start until they are spirt of atys :)

Bmsite ain't really helpful for Silan. If the trainer doesn't explain the mission well enough I suggest that you create a topic for that mission on this forum and someone can provide a guide. Or try region or uni chat again later.

bmsite lack of sources on silan is intentional.

Remember to right click on map to add landmark if you find something useful so you can find it again later. You have 256 markers per map to use.

Hello!

#8 Report | Quote[en]

karu, you beat me to sending my mail, i was still mulling over a rough draft of it.

ok, i'll recruit the cookies team and see if we can't put together some comprehensive data on dig sites, throw on some spoiler warnings and post under spoiler tags.

i love being able to send someone either to bmsite.net or the game forums, extra options are nice, but the more locations one has to go, the more chances of forgetting things, or loosing interest all together.

give me a few days / week or two and i have something rubixal. i'll start really working on a guide for silan, you found the forums and asked questions, so i want to provide rewards, and you made me think in the process, because if you took the time to find and read the forums, your a more serious player in my book. (i'd say for every 10 players 2 might read the forums)

oh ya check my signature for some nice links, or search the forums for [cookies guide] and enjoy the works we've done thus far and tell us about anything you think we might need to do...

Once you have done the missions for the xp - there is really no point in staying on Silan - you would get better xp over here. Safer areas are Jungle (Zora) and Lakes (Fairhaven)

Not sure which places are better populated - but, as an after thought, please do not tell new refugees to stay on Silan until they are 40-50 - they will die just as fast / slow at 25-30, but will have better gear and other benefits

Glad you enjoy game - it is a collectible item :p

yes i totally agree bina staying to 50 isn't going to help much on the ML at all, i did it because i was once told to, foolish me i did as told, played there on this toon for years trying to get them all (true back then i was a casual player)

give me time rubixal and i'll get some special maps made....

karu, can the static maps on bmsite be shared via links? if so i'll use that to create them and just add the link to the map to my two table of contents posts in my signature, as an alternative to creating them as spoilers on the ryzom forum.

Just curious, why would you duplicate the effort on Silenda? It's even linked from the BMSite sidebar ("Ryzom Database"). Just to have it on the forums? :)

#12 Report | Quote[en]

honestly MJ, because after you reminded me i went to the site, loaded the silan map and did some looking around there, then loaded my silan alt, compared my maps to the silenda maps, there's a little data on the silenda maps, but the maps i had created in my 3 years playing silan have a few more dig sites that are useful, and there are something that could be listed that are not listed. also IF i create the things on the forums, i'll not only have maps, but tips and other data that would be useful for new players. (something that neither silenda or bm have, thus making yet another [cookies guide] with more then just the basics.)

how often do people come to ryzom, play in silan and think that's all there is to the game? (i've talked to several that thought silan was the whole of ryzom, had never done missions from the kami, karavan, or chaing. and there's several other crazy things i've encountered from new-to-ryzom players that were mind blowing)

thus my project i'm about to take on is more then just creating maps, i'm going to try to make something up that will fill in gaps, it's not going to be just maps, i intend to make screen shots of things, step by step. let's face it, when most of the next generation of gamers start playing a game the first thing they do is search for guides, walkthroughs, and the like. and i'm tired of always coming up with massive blanks for silan. sure there's not much to do for the ML, but for the starter island, we need something in place to stop the loss of players who are in the starter island of all places. (it's sad when someone gives up in silan because they can't get the help they need.)

but anyway, let's not hijack this thread needlessly.

#13 Report | Quote[en]

wow! did i open a can of worms here??

talkirc: thank you for your offer to help but given how hard the starter island is i don't think ryzom will be the game for me.

karu: the bm site in my opinion should have the data for silan if it's the first site that people suggest to new players like me.

mjrollren: i found the forums faster then the bmsite and totally missed the link to the other site you spoke of.

binarabi: it looks like either ryzom's not ready for me or i'm not ready for ryzom.

rubiksmomo: nice name :P and i thought the missions were alright in their basic form. i only wanted to see if i could find some less dangerous places to finish a few of them since i had trouble getting a team in region chat and that stern warning about universe made me feel that i shouldn't bring it up there.

to everyone: thank you all for the time you took to post on my thread. i believe i'll wait until talkirc has created his guides or bm adds more data for silan before i come back or introduce my friends to ryzom. right now either ryzom or myself are not ready.

i will check back from time to time now that i've discovered i can log into the forums without being in the game.

#14 Report | Quote[en]

i really hate that you feel your not ready for ryzom, and even more sorry to see you leave, but fear not, i'll do as i promised and create those guides, and such. just look in my signature for the links to "cookies approved reference data, guides, and more. " and "talkIRC forum post table of contents" once the work is done you'll find a "[cookies guide] silan guide w/spoilers"

one way or another i want to see more players in ryzom, and since the newer players what a little more hand holding (no offense rubixal, i'm a masochist and love ryzom's pita learning curve, but then again i remember atari and nes)

i'll adapt to the new age of gamers because they're less likely to adapt to our old way of gaming.

If you click on the Silan Guide(s) in the sidebar it shows you guides to the skill missions in Silan.

Since bmsite .net is NOT an official extension of Ryzom and is driven entirely by player input, I don't think that you can legitimately fault the game for faults at bmsite.

Karu is really good about adding content that he/she is told about.
