I decided to tempt fate and install Ubuntu 13.10 today when its availability was noted in my check for updates. Now Ryzom won't work: initial screen opens for a few seconds, and then disappears with no indication that it had ever started.

I went through a few iterations of attempts to get Ryzom to work with no luck, but in the attempt to open it through terminal the error that the file libGL.so.1 cannot be found was indicated. A couple attempts at fixing this did not work.

Any ideas?

In the meantime, I suggest that Ubuntu users don't update to 13.10.

Hi.
Is 3D working? You're using that unity desktop?

You could try to install/resinstall the VGA's binary drivers from the software center.

Good luck,
Nuno

I was also not able to run Ryzom anymore in 13.10, but for another reason (https://bitbucket.org/ryzom/ryzomcore/issue/55/ryzom_client-cras hes-on-start-with).

But after purging the installed version and reinstalling from ppa:ryzom-isv/ppa it now works fine.

I updgraded to 13.10 too and it went without incident.

libGL.so.1 in my system (64bit) comes from nvidia-319-updates package (/usr/lib32/nvidia-319-updates/libGL.so.1)

edit: got time to check self compiled version and that had a few errors. After cleaning up lua dev packages and recompiled, got it to launch.... only to get errors inside client lua files itself (interaction.lua and game_r2_loading.lua).... but all is working now (except drag-drop on items and entering building, but those were there before ;-)

Hello!

Is there a way around the entering building bug? (Got that now with the new client)

You have self compiled client?

Hello!

No, its the new client from the ryzom-isv ppa. I have reported the bug, and there is another post in the forum about this as well...

Hello!

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10, and then ran apt-get install ryzom. The client downloads the contents, and then it stops. If I manually try to start it from the command line this happens:

~/.ryzom$ /opt/ryzom/ryzom.sh
Found 228 BNP files in /home/drogos/.ryzom/data
Updating /home/drogos/.ryzom/client.cfg...
Patching Ryzom data...
Launching Ryzom...
PANIC: unprotected error in call to Lua API (attempt to index a nil value)

… wonders if anyone cares, and if there is a plan to fix this … I like, and miss the game, hope to be back soon.

Have you asked on CeB or maybe in the #ryzom channel on Freenode? Sorry, no idea how to fix, but I've seen the ryzomcore devs have a fun time with Lua ..

you can manually download 32bit version that works in saucy
Open terminal and paste
cd ~/.ryzom
rsync -rtzv --progress --stats www.ryzom.com::ryzom/ryzom_client ./ryzom_client_i386
./ryzom_client_i386

Hello!

Ryzom, you have a great community!

Mjollern: I though CeB was windows only? The #Ryzom channel on irc… Every time I tried to ask something there, they say that the channel is for the Ryzom core thingy, and not for the game. Actually all this is very confusing to me, on e.g. this page: http://dev.ryzom.com/projects/5/wiki it has always stated to get help on irc, but when I tried, they did only talk about the in game api, and that someting was not a part of something and that I had to ask the Ryzom people instead? Crazy stuff that I can make no sense of…

I will try and install VirtualBox again, get a windows running, then install CeB, then try this approach.

Karu: Also thanks for your tip too, I might try that one if the CeB solution does not work. It is so nice when all is in the apt, for updates and such.

Hopefully this will solve my problems :)

To any official Ryzom person reading: Having the game in the shop, and not working when installing, can not be a good business solution. I am amazed that it can be this long since new Ubuntu release, and still no fix, even worse when I google it, and find people that claims to have fixed this problem in the source. Even more amazed that there is no official response on what to do, or if there is a plan to fix this. Is anyone of you still alive? I have stated in these forums before, I like the game, I like the community, I would like to see the game survive. Please you also help a bit at the fundamental level at least. Sorry to be a bit harse, but I really want to see Ryzom keep living :)

Well, the thing to try next would be an email to support@ryzom.com
