#16 [en]

Salazar carefully tested the function of his extremities when he rose from his bed for the first time after his long illness. Leaning on his servant boy, still trembling all over, he walked cautiously, swaying like a toddler or a drunk, through his apartment. The dressing gown he was wearing shook around his already slim figure, which was even more emaciated from his suffering. When he finally sank into the chair at his desk with a sigh, the flowing fabric spread out at his feet like a frozen waterfall, gently shimmering in the light of the setting sun.

"Can I bring you something, sir?" asked the boy, his features marked with worry. "You really shouldn't ..."

Salazar waved his hand with a smile. "Bring me a cup of red wine mixed with egg yolk; it should be a tonic that is at least as good as this quack's medicine. And then see what notices, newspapers, rumors you can find. In the meantime, I'll take care of everything that has accumulated here ..." His gaze touched the pile of parchments on the desk. Utran's notice must also be there somewhere, and he wanted to devote himself to his report and sketches about Muang first.

Almost shyly, the boy bowed, a slight blush on his cheeks. He reminded Salazar how he was at the same age. His eyes followed the young Matis as the latter - seized with serious eagerness - left the apartment. Again a slight smile crept on Salazar's lips. Then he turned to the desk for good and began to study the papers that had piled up on it.
