Chronicle
Lordoy Riffy,

I learned that the voyage to Pyr did not go very well well, and that two of your mektoubs were used as meals for some Kitins from the Great Swarming. I am counting on you to sell the remainder of the cargo: a third of the goods means they are thrice as rare, and you should be able to get as much as we expected. If the bottles survived, do not forget to bring them to Mephyros. Friendships have to be maintained, and such a fruitful one must not be lost.

Once it is done, take your mektoub to Abygrian and come back to the Lakes as soon as possible. Trade routes are definitely impractical with all these Kitins around, and the federation is too involved with power games to do anything within the next cycles. It is time to act. I have managed to "convince" Shaly Nara, from the Guild of Try, to find volunteers to go to the west and to do some cleaning. I have to say that she owes me a favor. We need you to go to the Corsairs quickly. Help  them, so they will do their job: They have to make Aeden Aqueous safe again. I do not want to see even one single Kitin between Fairhaven and Crystabell. Persuade them, threaten them or pay them (with your dappers), whatever you do, just do it!

As for me, I'm leaving tonight for Avendale. There is a young Trykette there that I should be able to bamboozle. She can gather enough fighters to make it safely to the north. She is young and can be easily manipulated, but she is a famous one. I count on you, and don't you dare leave a tavern tab open like last time. Seelagan.

Announcement

In Fairhaven the last days you can meet some Corsairs of Aeden Aqueous who try to persuade homins to join them in fighting the Kitins. The tribe seems to be determinded to free the Lakes from all kitin presence. But the Corsairs have returned less numerous from the exile and their leader Codgan Ba'Nakry has to call for volunteers to reinforce their ranks.

*ooc: All english-speaking Trykers can meet Codgan Ba'Nakry in Fairhaven at Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:00:00 UTC (1 decade ago)

To all homins who come to read these letters:

I am battered and bruised and sore, but the Kitins in Aedan Aqueous have been beaten back, at least for a little while.

We gathered to follow Ba'Nakry Codgan, the chief of the Corsairs, but there were many fewer than had been at the Cerakos Gate a few days earlier.  Still, our hearts were strong and we banded together and followed Codgan out of Fairhaven to the Mound just east of the city.   There our small numbers were immediately put to a far rougher test than we had met in Burning Desert.  Only by means of careful actions were we able to prevail, and even then many a homin lay unconscious upon the field for long moments until the healers could get to them.

It seemed that there were somewhat fewer Kitin in these Mounds than the ones in the Desert, and it may be that some had gone to repopulate those Mounds, for we heard reports that some Kitin had come back to the desert Mounds already.

Still, the Kitin came forth in numbers and it took the power of all the homins there to beat the Kitin down and to restore, at least for a little while the peace and tranquility that is the best of the Lakes.  We beat down the two Mounds near Fairhaven, then the two near the Cristabel Skinners camp on Lakenisle.  The bandits fought us rather than the Kitin, sad to say.

Finally we went to Crystabel itself and cleared the docks there and then the final Mound nearby.  The Guards at Crystabel did marvelous service in helping the battle force, but the fight was still long and hard because of the hated Kidinaks and their mesmerizing green fog.  If we had had enough homins present to set up two separated groups it might not have been so difficult, but we made do with what we had, and in the end we were victorious.

Shortly thereafter Codgan received word that the forces that had gathered at Avendale and at Windemeer had also been successful and that Liberty Lakes was clear of the Kitin.  (I have heard rumors of incursions in Winds of Muse and Fount, but do no know the truth of these.)

Thank you Bittymacod for your account! It fills my heart with joy to hear that Crystabell is clean of this disease. Lone travellers, like I like to be, will be eternally grateful to all the forces that help fight the Kitins.

At some time the Trykers need to get together, though, and figure out why the Kitins tolerated the bandits. And the bandits seemed to acknowledge, maybe even respect the Kitins. Or were the Skinners subdued, and potentially provided some service to the white monsters from the depth of the roots?

This puzzle leaves me bewildered. Ever since the swarm I feel confused. Maybe I worry too much. But there are these voices in my head...

Thank you for your wonderful reports, Mr. Bittty! As I am back to the Tryker cruise line and mostly cut off from civilization, it is good to know what has been going on lately! All the best.
