I just got this in my email and while I dont play anymore, I would just like to say to the existing players how sorry I am that this has happened to the game and your characters.

While I'm glad OP's and cats are gone (I hated them with a vengence), I would suggest that you do not penalise non subbed players with your XP plans. I cant think of any other MMO currently doing something like this.

I went back to Lineage and its still got a vibrant population, it came out at the same time as Ryzom, but to survive it (like many MMO's) has gone f2p, but it busts its ass to enhance gameplay for non subbed and beginner players, it gives double XP, at certain milestones it gives you free armour, weapons and jewellery that are bound to your character, but you can keep them and it also gifts you top tier equipment for certain periods of time to get you through levels faster and with style, it has buff bots in towns to give you free buffs.

As I said, it busts its ass for the players to enhance their gameplay.

Here you are busting your loyal players asses, you cannot expect them to accept something like this when every other MMO is busting their asses to help loyal players.

These player LOVE their gameworld and their characters, in many cases they consider their ryzom characters an extension of their real life personas, kill their characters and its like murdering them, then asking their owners to come back and pay to dance on their graves.

So on behalf of the existing players, I hope you will reconsider your position on the matter or do something like give each one a lv 250 character for their account, with an amount of skillpoints to spend as they see fit, something to assuage their distress at what you are doing here.

I know Ryzom has always bucked the trend vs other MMO's, but from someone who has played many subbed and f2p MMO's, you are not shooting yourselves in the foot, you are shooting yourselves in the head.

Good luck all and I hope you get some sort of positive reaction to your issues.

/Peace, Valda.

I am turning to Wurmonline, that is what I found the nearest of Ryzom. I will see.
Yesterday, I tried Guild Wars 2. Teenage community, totally immature and not helpful, exaggerated magic effects. All is on graphics but the content is empty. I can give a 4/10.

Maybe one day, I will get pissed off with all of them and go back to Ryzom. But so far, NO.

#201 Report | Quote[en]

Since no one has mentioned it i think ( dont jump on my back if you have :P )

Cho was created for the "new" players and what happened........

Loads of Vets jumped from Aris and went there and dominated and decimated the entire server within weeks, so much for balance and helping new players.

Im with the majority of replys here, i have subbed on and off for to long really to a game that for some reason keeps pulling me back because i have formerly known as Mardock waiting for me to run him around again. Visit the kipees so i can moan about the noise find things to kill or work up the will to grind some more on ranged ( takes all the fun out of pvp :( )

Will i resub or make a F2P account no, ive started from scratch on to many toons and gained to many lvls to justifly putting the time back in to do it all again.

To the people ive been guilded with and the ones ive just played with and against its been a blast with loads of memorys, I Salute You All.

To Winchgate i would urge you to reconsider the toon wipes as from what i can read and see in game your going to loose a lot more than you think you are.

#202 Report | Quote[en]

I believe that no one has understood what the situation is. Merge or nothing, because they do not make it to maintain all the servers. If you agree we start from scratch together. If you do not agree, that's the door. You did not understand that they will not beg anyone but they are pointing to a new community.
I read about threats, words and reactions extremely out of place. Perhaps someone should remember that this is a game, not real life. And above all, that the friendship created in game will exist anyway.

I think this a bold move. There are a lot of opportunities that new players will have after this move that would have been impossible for them without the move.

New players will have the opportunity to craft items that are useable by others. The way the game was intended. They will have the chance to learn the regions the way it was meant for them to learn them - through exploration and teaming with others of their own level and a lot of hard work. They will experience the true difficulties of going from one capitol to another without the assistance of "trek masters" who will most probably have left the game. The new players will be given a chance to become significant instead of constantly in the shadows of the old-timers.

What about those old-timers? What is left for them? Well they will still have all the knowledge of the game. The knowledge and skills that were learned by having previously mastered the game. And that is a huge advantage over a truely new player. I've often said that I think the game should have an 'aging' component so that characters don't become 'all powerful'. I don't believe that the game was intended to have players build a character that was a master of all things.

This player wipe is a form of a terrible catastrophy occuring in Atys which takes the lives of all the masters, but allows Atys to continue - granted for a new generation only.

Why not embrace that? Why not enjoy the turmoil that will exist and offer your knowledge and skills to help bring about the change to the new generation that will grow to enjoy life on Atys? Don't look just at the negative. There will be a lot of fun to be had. And you can be part of it.

Ähhhh..nope.
Merge is not the Problem why so many old players now leaving the game. The toon reset after 7 years of playtime is the reason. They could strip us from all the materials but could leave the progress archieved like level or jobs intact. So they dont. Why? Technically impossible? Good Joke!

I would like to live on a new populated Atys with people from all over the world. But not starting from zero, stripped from the existance of the past years? No way.

One more adding:

Yes.. people can craft things other can use. The economy will be better. And after another 2 years.. make another reset, when a crafter hits the first billion dapper. Goooooood plan.

All luck to the new generation. It won't be mine, though; I'll stay behind, with all the masters and levels I never made in 7 long years.

Micina, the problem simply is that they are killing the game. They could as well announce final shutdown. At least they could be honest with their customers. explaining the economic situation, and what they were and are gaining and spending every month . Afterwards, the customers might consider whether or not they accept an icreased price, or whatever. A "solution" driving away considerable parts of the community, thus significantly reducing the playerbase further, is doomed to fail.

...

The "old players" that'll keep around, don't just have an "advantage" in knowledge. This advantage will grant them the possibility to achieve old standards in a much faster way as the new players ever could.
They'll have the basic levels back to current status that fast, you won't be able to imagine right now, this fact is increased by the announced xp-boost for transferred characters.

No "trek masters" you say? Those veterans who'll stay are able to pass all the roots unharmed even with a silan-type character by sneaking past all the mobs. They know by heart all the supreme mat-spots.
They know what material they need to make proper PvP-equipment.
They'll get all the neutral teleporter-tickets within one evening.
This is not just an advantage. The discrepancy between veteran and new players will quite fast, faster as you might want to realize now, be the same as it is right now.

The only thing the skill-tree wipe achieves, is to have lots of players leaving the game. Making eventually room for some new players, but lets be honest, those won't replace those people right now paying for 3 up to 5 accounts.
And those new players, that'll have to learn the game first, will then be confronted yet again with a mass of veteran players that are able to overcome them in any imaginable way of gameplay.

I prefer to have another chance to play rather than just see the game closed. But, in the end, this is about the way of seeing the game. I prefer to start from scratch and try again rather than give way.

I'd rather Ryzom went bankrupt again, maybe someone else would have bought the game without character wipe, or Winchgate would open game data as they did with source code and assets. I think that character wipe, at least in the way as it's planned, is not a good idea.
I agree with Baffos. I have kept paying for my account even when I didn't have time to play, just to support Ryzom, the game i loved. But now I really regret it. I've never thought it will end up like this.

Just got the sad news that the chars/toons i have played with love and care,Ryzom i loved to play is coming to a close soon. I have only just come back to Ryzom after time away, what is the point of me leveling if at the end of this month its for nothing!
Whatever happens to this beautiful game i thank you all for a fantastic ride. Thank you to all those i have known over the past eight years,i have loved every minute of our lives together and i wish you well.
One more that will not be playing past the death of our beautiful server.
