heh, i'm on windows because i can't get ati driver to work in buntu 12.04 :s so can't help much :(

i know there is a setting in client_default.cfg to use only software render

it is set to Auto from default but you can change to 2 i think it is..(it says in he file)

although if it works you'd prolly have to set pretty low settings :(

Try setting your Windows client to lowest possible graphics setting, like everything off but keep HW acceleration. Use those settings on Linux machine. If it works gradually turn things back on.

I have never seen the water on Linux but I do see it on Windows 7 with the same computer. I will try the rest when I get back home.

Ok. I messed with the settings (had to su root to modify the file, but anyway), after I messed with the settings in client_default.cfg, the game wouldn't load at all. So I did a reinstall and now it works. I have no idea what changed other than it recognizing my graphics device during install.

So there you go.

Edit: I was still in recovery mode and didn't realize. *facepalm* It's still not working and I'm still working on it. Grrr.

On a side note, changing Auto/0 to 1 or 2 makes no difference.

I don't have a ryzom.ttf. I can only find a reference to it in ryzom.sh.

client_default.cfg is system-wide file, in other words, it's the same for all users hence it has root-only priviledges. This is consistent with everything else on Linux.
ryzom.ttf should be in root folder of where game is installed, usually ~/.ryzom

to make sure ryzom can find all files you should start it with ryzom.sh from your home dir i think, this happens on auto when you click the desktop file.

if the files are really not there i think i would uninstall ryzom (if it doesn't work delete (/opt/ryzom and ~/.ryzom) and then download the client myself from sourceforge. http://sourceforge.net/projects/ryzom/files/ryzom_dbg.7z/download

I had never run the .sh file before. I have always just installed it from the software library and run it. I did look at the windows directory and I have a lot fewer files even after running the .sh file. I guess it dies when it gets to that .ttf file. I will try getting the files from the sourceforge option

when you click the regular icon after installing from software repo it uses ryzom.sh :) so you prolly did without knowing :) i hope you'll be succesful :)

I solved this on Ubuntu 12.04 by installing libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental from the Software Center. I did also some other test and I'm building the client from sources, but maybe installing the experimental extra module would be enough.
Just try it and let me know.

I don't know that I'm good enough with it from that. For now I just went back to 11.10 and it works there. I will, however, keep that in mind if I try going back to 12.04. Thanks for the idea Bagatto

Just set up new box* with 12.04 and installed Ryzom. An extraction error pops up after data download but game starts fine. Haven't really do anything yet apart from looking around but looks ok.

Gcard is Nvidia 8600 GTS, using restricted drivers Ubuntu installation's set up.

*well, scrapheap challenge actually

I'm having this issue too - but I'm 99% sure it's an Intel Graphics driver bug. This seems to be the related issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-inte l/+bug/906269

If you are having this problem, please mark this bug as affecting you so that the developers notice it and hopefully fix it before too long. :)

I tried this and it still crashed. I'm going to try building from source and seeing if that helps though.

Indeed i think the problem is only related to Intel Graphics drivers.
I have seen a recent Intel driver update into the update manager, i'll try to remove the experimental driver to see if it is good.
