Hi all,

I install Ryzom with Ubuntu Software Center. After I finished installing, I click on Ryzom, and a pop-up windows come out saying

"Downloading Ryzom data files - Depending on your download speed, this process could take quite some time"

I left it there and waited for 3 hours, and it still has not finished. May I know if this is normal? Just how much data needs to be downloaded?

I am also using vmware Ubuntu. Will that be a problem?

The unpacked data files are round about 6.2 GB (don't know how well it's packed when downloading it)

so it should take:
~8 mins with a 100 Mbit/s connection
~17 mins with 50 Mbit/s
~26 mins with 32 Mbit/s
~53 mins with 16 Mbit/s
~ 1:45 hrs with 8 Mbit/s
~ 7 hrs with 2 Mbit/s

and on even older connections (dial-in) - I doubt that you have one of these though...
~ 4.7 days with 128k
~ 9.5 days with 64k
~ 11 days with 56k

haven't tested anything regarding a VM but it could be troublesome to play at all if not all necessary ports are forwarded from the real machine to it - I don't see any problems with data-file downloads though.
The files are available for direct download somewhere as well (don't know exactly where though)

Patching is simple wget call from launch script. 7z package is available for manual download from Sourceforge, look at script for exact URL. Other issue might be filesystem permissions as files need to be replaced. Pipe script output to a file and have a look.
