If you are going to automatically add a temporary event channel, add it to the end of my list ... the way all other channels are added.

Better yet, don't automatically add the channel.

Let's get back to what I was saying originally, eh?

The first part, make it behave like every other channel. If I make a new channel, Moo, it will be added to the end of my current channel list. Right now, I have Kami (0) and Hominist (1). If I created "Moo", it would become channel 2. when I log out, and back in, "Moo" would still be channel 2 (assuming it gets re-added in the first place). My new channel doesn't become channel 0, moving the rest of them around.

I understand the reason for this is likely because this event channel is added to our list before the other channels are, so a bit of lazy/sloppy programming is involved. This is part of my complaint. This complaint would be rendered moot if channel membership were not forced upon us.

The other part of my complaint is having it forced upon me at all, as if I'm being forced to participate in this event. Events are good (assuming competence is involved in its planning), so they deserve their own, PERMANENT, channel. One that we can choose to join or leave at OUR whim and that does not disturb the ordering of our user-created channels, and one that does not force itself on us at each login.

One single channel is easier to support, requires fewer checks in code, and potentially fewer places for programming mistakes. It allows players to always know what channel to go to for Event information and communication, and it allows players to choose whether or not to participate in events at any given time.


Incidentally, I did notice that I can create additional channels, though I didn't have time to test whether they work. I had the forced event channel as (0), Kami as (1), Hominist as (2), and two other channels as (3) and (4). I closed them, so I don't know if they persist through login sessions.

After the next patch, any event channels will be connected last. This should address all the issues listed here, no?
