Official linux client afaik starts as first person view.

Then can't you just press V to return to third person view? (Which should automatically have the camera go the distance where it last was?)

If others are bothered by this in the meantime, I've just stumbled across a client.cfg line:FPV = 0;FPV = first person view, so 0 for 3rd. Of course this can also be used for those who want to default to 1st. :)Camera zoom can also be set, defaults are as follows, you'll have to work out the units yourself :p :CameraHeight = 2.2;CameraDistance = 3.0;
Should be fixed in next version as self compiled works correctly.
