Recently, I've been receiving tells from utter strangers, most probably clueless newcommers, demanding me for stuff I don't necessarly have or ordering me to follow them, not telling me where, nor why. I find that both abusive and... incredibly creepy.

While it's one of my pleasures to help newcommers in need, mostly by answering questions and escorting treks, I have absolutely no obligation to provide everyone on Atys with gear and neither do I have to follow anyone anywhere without knowing what I'm supposed to be doing there.

Asking for help from an older player is perfectly alright, but there is a WAY to do so to avoid getting taken for a beggar, or worse...
Like in Real Life, the words "Please" and "Thank You" are not an option. Also, if the person you're asking help from wants more information about the kind of service you need, by all means, provide it.

The Atysian community might be the most helpful, but it is a know fact that if the demanding party is acting rude, help might/will be denied.

I always assumed the "follow me" <no further explanation> types just didn't speak enough English to communicate what they wanted without having something to point at. This assumption is furthered when I do follow them and once at the destination they still don't manage to communicate to me what they want.

But yeah, it is a bit creepy.

That's been happening a lot over the years. I usually accept after a few tries (they're always newcomers) and keep them feared or stunned for 5 minutes before finishing them off with a single blast of poison.
Never have trouble with them after that :)

lol I will, when I get a little more sp. ;) It would be nice though, if you could turn off the duel thing.

If I remember correctly you can put those people on your ignore list, and the duel invites should be history.

But I may be wrong here.

If I remember correctly you can put those people on your ignore list, and the duel invites should be history.

I may be wrong, but I believe that "follow me" may be one of the selections from the emote menus.

Most of you certainly are. Only had to do it 2-3 times a year over the 4 years (gosh, has it been that long?) I've been on Atys.

No, Tyk. When you select one of those, it's usually posted in local chat as far as I know, not in private conversations.

It happened only one other time after I started this thread... by the same guy. Either his english skills are very bad or he just didn't know how to behave properly.

"Hi ! I'm new around here ! Could you help me to do <insert task here>, please ?" doesn't seem so complicated to ask, does it ?
