IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Given the tremendous quality of Ryzom among the dismal array of free/libre MMORPGs, I found it unfortunate that it is not included in Fedora's default repository. Sadly, I have neither the experience in packaging nor the time and discipline to learn. If someone with experience in maintaining packages (and preferably someone already involved with Ryzom development) would step up to the task, that would be great. The criteria for Fedora package maintainers are found here:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/Join

Obvious Benefits:

- Make Fedora a better GNU/Linux distribution by adding yet another quality game to its core repos
- Expand Ryzom's user base and thus its number of subscribers

Downsides:

- Somebody has to go through the trouble of submitting the package and then maintaining it for subsequent releases.

Does anyone know what dependencies Ryzom pulls in, or how to find this out?

Check out http://dev.ryzom.com/  You can get all info there.

It looks like no progress has been made on this yet. I'd love to see this happen not just for my distro Fedora, but for other popular distros.

FYI, maintaining packages is not a walk in the part, especially ones of this complexity.

It might be beneficial to look at the package ArchLinux already has: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=47589 . However, I just unzipped the client to /opt, made sure I had all the deps, and played it.
