Another problem I just thought of Is I think that people can have the same name if they are on different shards. I think I made a Meagon on the French server because I got bored...

Never argue with an idiot; they will just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

You case is comparativly easy, its worse when two different people use the same name.

I meant that that is a possibility was just showing an example of how it is possible.

Having read through the thread, I think that the problems with merging shards have been clearly stated: difference in cultural attitudes (IRL and in-game), language problems in some cases making it *harder* to find teams and get assistance and in all cases producing cacophony, and difficulties in setting up/adjusting/etc. the matter of OP's and guild names.

I would also like to second Meagon on the statement that the shards were not meant to hold "thousands" of people. In my opinion, "hundreds" would be much more reasonable, with perhaps a total population per shard of around a thousand. The question I have, for those reading from the other shards: How low are the populations of Aniro and Leanon? I get the impression that they are far more populated than Arispotle.

Actually the population of Aniro is the lowest I've ever seen...
The kamis control all OPs and many players from the karavan have left the game.
There's no more balanced OP wars, and no more PvP challenge.

The only things that seem to keep Aniro alive are events, and events are the most likely to suffer if the shards are merged... :S

Bittty, afaik guild names are unique across shards (though there are exceptions, those need CSR intervention to be created, this was the case with Amicitia which also exists on Leanon).

Well nobody knows the real deal but I have the feeling that the population on Leanon is slowly on the rise again.

And just to name it:
There are 3 Kami temples (Fyros, Tryker, Zorai) and 1 Karavan temple (Matis) on Leanon.
In addition we've got Ailan Mac'Kean (hope the name's spelled right) as Tryker governour and afaik that's not the case on all shards.

But take a look here at some estimated stats: http://www.3025-game.de/ryzom/en/statistics/

Edit: take a look at the dappers/char or dappers/guild on lea compared with the other shards or the HP of the chars on Aniro compared with Aris ;-)

You may want to check on the disclaimer of that site ... they only aggregate data for those who supply their API keys, and it does not appear that they have that many of those. The data on HP for example is only available for 163 homins on Arispotle (divide total by average) as it requires this info to be visible, while the info on, say, factions is for 417 registered homins (which is available from public keys) ... try searching me ... I'm not in :)

That's the reason why I said "estimated" ;-)

But you're right I should have highlighted it better.
I'd really like to see such stats with the real numbers though... (even if it's only the average / percentages and without the #players/toons)

Well, why not, I don't have really idea, I like aniro's environement and friendly behaviour, but if there need to merge for the sake of Ryzom, then I'm ok :)

For the sake of Ryzom, there should be no merger as the overall opinion in every single thread about it in every forum it's been brought up over the years has been that it'd be a massively bad idea and a lot of people (likely the majority of each shard's paying population) would quit were it to happen.
Even if "only" 30% of paying customers were to quit were the shards merged (and I think it'd be closer to 60% myself) it'd be a massive financial drain, far worse than the money saved on hosting cost.

I'm just repeating what other people have said, but I share their opinion:
It would be nice to have more people, but I don't want the shards to be merged. My main reasons are language and play style.

its prolly funny how its the folks from the same places that are usually grumpy against each other...
could be worth a shot...
what other major change can they do?
prefered language tab might help...

It is virtually impossible to "merge" shards.
All elements created by player interaction in history are different, ie. Temples, Camps, Outposts, Governments and History/Politics, Support und Eventteam.
They could only close one or more shards and "move" Players, their Guilds and Property.
Go figure how happy you would be, should you have to "move".
