I completely agree with Erizon. That would so awesome, not to mention motivating. It would be a sort of self-test to really see how your skills have improved over time. It would be like a skill to work towards improving that is indefintely there, unlike mastering a skill like melee which is, once obtained, the best and most exciting it will get.

It would be not just the long-term motivation, but also short term motivation for playing too. It's a very exciting chnage of pace. GvG is good, but I still think an intense PvE battle like Erizon desribed is exactly what ryzom is missing.

I must add I would like the battle to be dynamic, ever-changing. Everytime you go back it should be in role-play sense "yet another battle" with a dynamic map in which building positiions change somewhat, number of enemies, etc.

I think it should be treated similarly to ring scenraios; hosted seperately. Every battle should be similar but take place apart from battles some other players might be battling. Continued below:

Some players would randomly be thrown into a waiting battle, until a certain number of players are accepted. If a team leader chooses to enter a battle, the entire team should be asked to enter that same battle. How awesome would that be? :)

I like Erizon's idea a lot. However, don't make it an "endgame" thing, make it a major part of the game for all the players. It would be nice to actually see Kitins have some kind of agenda (one we could interfere with), instead of just scuttling around aimlessly.

I think and invasion would be nice if it is announced ahead of time. last time we had invasions they were random and nobody knew what was going on. Lots of people missed it and were really sad.

I agree. KItin invasions more often would be fun and add a sense of dynamics to the game. Do the old style city invasions really take much effort to set up?

The KotD invasions were utter incredible fantastic rubbish. Spawning countless tons of aggro everywhere on every empty place around the world and calling it "the invasion" was lame. Nobody was able to go anywhere without a team of 250th lvl bodyguards. Sometimes one could manage to pass the KotD safely though - only to find out that his levelling or digging spot is occupied by another pack of freshly spawned aggro. No digging, no levelling, no trekking. Only farming thousands of kitins all day long for what? A couple of useless titles?..

I've heard numerous complaints from those who weren't interested in farming tokens, because all their daily activities were shut down by so called "invasion" and they had no choice but either sitting in towns chatting their time off or simply not logging in the game at all for two or three weeks. Some newcomers told me it was their worst start in MMO game ever, as they couldn't go anywhere without getting killed by tons of kitins. In fact, they were unable to play the game they had paid for, because of this poorly designed event.

Make it instanced, as it was proposed above, or better make it in old school style, much like Tryker Invasion or Battle for Pyr ( search Youtube for identically named videos if you wanna see what it was like). So far, the Battle for Pyr event is one of my favorite and most enjoyable memories about playing Ryzom. And memories about KotD invasions are the worst ones. Go figure.

oh well i'm not saying i'm wanting exactly the kotd invasion from last year or was it 2 years ago i forgot since it was so long ago. biggest problem with that invasion was that even lvl 50+ zones where overrum but it made it also necesary for the whole server to work tougether killing of the kotd.
maybe let only the pr be overrun this time or instead of an invasion let some exterminators pop at random places in the world that we have to hunt down.
but right now it's been so long since we had an event where we could do something , last thing i remeber was the refugee days to welcome the "freeloaders"
it's getting really boring, and i don't think any of you want me to come hunt down diggers in pr because i'm just bored :p

Perhaps make any Kitin Invasion teams level-appropriate for the zone they're invading. Then bands of noobs would have a chance against them. And if they wanted to wait for a higher-level player to clear the place out, it wouldn't be a long wait in many cases.

Perhaps also vary the spawn frequency according to when a group with a "leader" is being released. After the leader is killed, which will ultimately happen even if they manage to occupy a town for a little while, the frequency of invasion teams drops to almost nothing before slowly rising again for the next leader.

Another variant is making it limited down to one region in every land, like Upper Bog, Enchanted Isle and such.

wouldn't work. 1-2 masters would port in into the lvl50 and 100 zones and kill the entire thing before the low level players even knew what happened...

That's a fact of life with an open world without level limits on the zones you can enter.

Yeah, I figured they -could-, but if there were no benefit to the higher-level players, why would they? I guess in addition to level-appropriate, the rewards should be based on a similar scale to exp rewards. Or just don't have rewards, let it be for fun. Dunno =)
