IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Shouldnt take much to finish the missions for the in game encyclopedia. I dont think im alone with hitting a dead end on alot of those, half way or most of the way through one. Plus it would add to storylines a bit more.

in fact it'd take quite some effort. Create mission scripts, npcs, objects where needed, put everything in the database, test it to exhaustion.
Maybe no C++ coding effort, but time consuming.

I agreed it needs more attention. The idea of advancing and tuning your character through completing rites instead of dull grinding is brilliant. In my opinion, it has a lot of unused potential. Let me remind you it was the most popular suggestion on the old feedback forums. There is plenty of unfinished rites right now and would be great if the development team put effort in working on them.

This is also a great way to inject lore into the game. We don't even need to receive benefits from completing them; just the ability to complete the incomplete rites would be welcomed.

(When doing this, please be mindful of all of the players who have taken citizenship when determining fame required for the final mission)

I agree, lots of attention required!
The Ency is such a good way of progressing and learning, especially if nicely rewarded.

Personally, I did/do like such missions as I do like just running around enjoying the scenery. ^^

I would definately like finishing the Encyclopedia to be a higher priority. Lots of things have been added in the last year and it was all good but with every patch I kept thinking "I would rather they had finished the Encyclopedia".

I believe the main problem with the encyclopedia is that it is single-use content. A character does a rite once, then never again. So the time it takes for the devs to implement a rite is not propertional to the time it takes the player to complete the rite - the players would have completed the new rite long before the devs can finish the next one.

This unlike the things they have chosen to work on, like occupations, appartment stuff, interface - that's stuff the devs only have to work on once, but the players can then keep playing with it indefinitely. In theory anyways :p

There is that. However the encyclopedia is of course part of the lore. This both makes it important and very hard to work on as everything has to be strictly applicable in roleplaying context as well as being applicable equally to all combinations of faction and civilisation allignment as well as racial background.

Couldn't resist adding something to this post. Firstly, fair point, Marelli, but lest we forget, the rites are not only about lore, they are also about the boosts/buffs/extra plans that come with completing them, and let's be honest, that's the main reason why some people do them. I mean, how many people have you heard ask 'What rite is it that tells me more about the history of the Fyros?' More often than not, people ask what rites grant this boost, or give that bonus.

True, once you get the boost/buff/extra plan, you have it, job done, but there's the nice, warm, fuzzy feeling you get (or at least I get) looking at my encyclopedia and seeing the completed rites, as well as the involvement when you actually get round to reading the rite entries. But this is not the main reason why I think these need to be done.

Simply speaking, leaving them pockmarked like this is embarrassing, makes the game seem unkempt. I can't really put into words the shame of having to admit to a newbie

'Oh, you can't finish that quest, the mob does not actually exist', or admitting that 'Oh, you cannot complete that rite, there is no npc in game to actually give you a quest to complete it'. In my opinion, that's the main driving reason these need to be done. Either finish them, or remove the pockmarked ones from the game.

True. Seeing as there is no actual content here, just a checkmark next to some already existing missions that flags them as ritual tasks in an unfinished rite, it would be best if this was simply removed. Only finishable rites should show up in the encyclopedia. Avoids a lot of newbie confusion. I'm sure some newbies just give up on rites because there's no way to tell which are finishable and which aren't.

I think, it's why most of the players do them. Encyclopedia articles already can be read on sites like BM or ryzom.silenda.de without completing the rites. It's rewards that encourage people to do them. Shame, not all of the rewards are equal in terms of usability. Crafting stanzas for generic axe and rifle? Terrific! I want them NOW!

That's another problem, yeah; every rite needs a reward skill that the players think of as useful but that doesn't disbalance the game.

That's a hard balance for a poor dev.

Just from my observation from doing every rite available in game, the skills are already there, i.e. mob effects, craft plan items, buffs, debuffs, etc. I also think that since there are some parts open and some not, that there was at least some type of detailed outline made... whether or not that information is still available to the devs is unknown.

Would be great if this feature was finished.. would add to content by giving us new skills, attributes and plans, and make tribe fame important and no longer just aggro drag camps.

As a side note, I think it is important that the fame aspect (civ/faction/tribe) be kept for some of the rites for a couple of reasons. First, if you have negative fame with a civ/faction/tribe, why should they give you their most cherished information? And you should have sufficient fame to be able to receive said information. Second, it makes you think and make a decisive decision on your actions, which of course you can decide to change later at a cost you were aware of when you made the decision. Part of the lure of Ryzom is that your actions have consequences, so therefore the fame system in all its aspects is really the heart of this concept.

As far as implementation, yes, those who have already done them all would completed them before the next ones come out; but keep in mind that not everyone has done the rites and that there are always new players signing up.

As well, right now the Encyclopedia would be in "catch-up" mode, adding rites corresponding to the content we already have. When new content is added, new rites could also be added for players to discover.
