There is just something deeply uncomfortable for me about entering Fairhaven only to be stared down by a marauder who is just casually chilling at the local bar.

Now, I understand that capitals are located in low level zones. But the guards being no threat just feels wrong. There are incredibly important lore figures in these cities - namely racial leaders. And yet, they are protected by guards incapable of doing their job. From a lore standpoint, this makes no sense.

I'm not saying that cities should be indomitable fortresses. But a single high level player could easily conquer them on their own and that's a little silly.

One time I watched a single Marauder slaughter wave after wave of guards while his buddy just sat there at the Fortunate Gubani spinning the wheel and lobbing the occasional enchant-heal. And it seems that the only section of any capitol that has this sort of chronic security issue is Fairmarket Fork. Of course, no other capitol has much of interest as close to the city gates either, and I suspect that that plays a role.

Maybe it is citizens who's duty is to help the guards? Back as Zoraï citizen I loved defending Zora from Marauders =D

As Marauder, I kinda had to whack some Zora guards too to get to the wheel. It also was cool to see certain Guardian of the Theocrazy come defend his city, and eventually he ended my evil gaming time =P. Good times, but glad we got one in camp now ^^

I agree with Jahuu, if it bother so much citizens they can act themselv.

Little question, how you know they are marauder's ?
Do you feel uncomfy because they can attack you ?

To answer, City guards are strong enough, but players will always be better (and it should be like this), if you do not count NPC like mara boss which are "instance".

Specifically in FH, Maras exploit (not in COC context) the generic disengage once an enemy has entered the water. Furthermore many, well there aren't many guards to begin with, but a handful are within attack range but are stuck on docks and they are only trained to use a pike.

Yes, players could choose to repel trespassers but: Firstly, this never works- even when maras are killed they just respawn at the kami TP and run back down to the water next to the stable- YAY RP! And second, citizens of FH shouldn't have to do by themselves what NPCs of other nations are able to do alone.

If I wasnt feeling like whacking them, I'd just ignore them. It's fun to be in cities now and then =)

Also you can always ask for example Larmes or other citizens to help, should you want to fight I mean. It's great fun, when both sides are strong. Also it would bond nations to get together and fight common enemy.

For second point, Dont ask what your city can do for you, but what you can do for it! =D

GM/devs are aware of the buggy patrols Placio, is it our fault if they do not get fixed ? (i'm talking about the patrol which never attack us automaticcaly at respawn (means we have to kill it once) which make the left of stable being a safe spot.

The "marauder" title is a dead giveaway. Also, they get guard aggo and it's really not that hard to figure out why.

I also don't think a single high level player should be able to solo all the city guards without breaking a sweat, that's all. Plus, as has been said, guards being useless at repelling the enemy faction, especially in capital cities, makes ZERO sense from a lore standpoint.

Of course, this is just my personal opinion, not a fact. This is why I started the thread in the first place - to hear opinions from other people.

Title etc is what we discussed in meta-RP thread, is what you see, what your character sees etc. Even if you know he is Marauder, it could be just a travelling merchant to your char =D (Ah, found it at page 3, but better ignore the #2 poster https://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/28385/ )

Also it's far from easy, I can barely get 4 guards down at time if I attack with axe. With vedice and better gear, maybe few more, but anyway 2 patrolling groups is certain Dead-huu, who most certainly broke a sweat. Enchant nuking ofc is option, but they do hit hard when they catch, so doubt you get too many down alone, before they already start respawning.

I am not a roleplayer. And, with how RP seems to be handled by the people who do it in this game, I likely never will be. So things like meta RP really don't concern me.

But, even IF I take into account that my character doesn't see the title, my character DOES see said character get attacked by guards. And who gets attacked by guards? That's right, marauders.

I guess it really is just Fairmarket Fork that has this security issue, but I saw this person with my own eyes very easily down the 4 present guards like they were nothing.

Jumping to conclusions much? Could be enemies of the state, non-marauder aligned exiles, bandits, die-hard kamis (in case of tryker/matis nations), etc. While I understand the thread is about city guards and the main perpetrators are Marauders, let's not ignore the other possible culprits.

Also, side note:

I had forgotten I wrote that lol. Nice to see it referenced from time to time.

Yeah, I have to give the ones that blocked me from accessing my mount credit in that at least they didn't run and hide in the water.

If not for the fact that the Ranger paths are near capitols, I would gladly half the purchase price of a home and move somewhere with far better security. Fairhaven's Finest can't even handle writing parking tickets for poorly placed Mektoubs, so they definitely aren't worth doubling the price of real estate.
