Umm -- Fyrosfreddy?

Where is the NPC hunt listed as a repeating scheduled event?

Answer: Nowhere that I know of.

Therefore I do not think that the event team can be faulted for trying to do an event on a weekday to interact with people who can't/don't do it on weekends. (I presume that was the idea behind doing it then.)

Ummm .... Correct Answer:

a)  IG App /appzone 1976
b)  Discord sends out reminders
c)  Guild MOTDs

Of course, this is a player scheduled event and if you are going to tell me that the Event Team doesn't know about an event that happens every 5 days for the past 5 years is something that the staff "doesn't know about", then there's  bigger problems than I had realized.   Ya can't blame the player base for not putting it on the Event Calendar since they have no access.
Bitttymacod
Perhaps the answer to the problem is to set up a Forum entry or other record that includes player-organized regular (and irregular) events so that if the event team decides to conflict with them it is with full knowledge of what is going on and if they decide not to conflict with them they can do so because they have knowledge.

The answer to the problem,as you have described it, already exists and has existed for years.  I don't see how the In-Game App (and the website with which it is associated), doesn't meet each and every tenet of what you just decribed.

a)  The record has been set up
b)  it's easily accessible IG
c)  It's easily accessible on the Ryzom web site
d)  It's accessible to the Event Staff

The answer to that is:
I don't use apps. I have never until now heard of that app.  I have never received any such notifications.  I play nearly every day when I am not on vacation.  If I have never heard of such things, I see no reason to expect every member of the event team to have heard of them.

There is just one thing missing: Letting the player base (i.e. me) know this exists and reminding them on a periodic basis.  If I haven't heard of them, I cannot do anything but believe that there are many many others in my position.

In general on Ryzom, official events take precedence over player events unless the event team in contact with the players decides otherwise, in which case a player initiated event may become an official one. Official events also take precedence over OP wars.

The reason is obvious: Official events usually require more or less programming and scripting effort and bind the limited ressources of the event team, and not seldom of the developers in addition.

And as long as I can recall (having been participating in NPC boss hunts already on Leanon) the boss hunts never claimed precedence over anything. I recall some boss hunts rescheduled due to official events. Much more frequently, reschedulings occured due to OP wars.

There is a simple reason for: It can never be guaranteed that a scheduled boss hunt will take place at all, and if so, whether it extends to all four bosses. The bosses fought are not reserved to the boss hunt party. In times when different parties competed for the bosses regularly, gentlemen agreements between the parties concerned were frequent, but it could happen anytime that the bosses were not present. Also, it may happen that the damage available is unsufficient to kill all of the bosses (e.g. Lixie or Pei as the most susceptible ones to lack of firepower).

As to the event in question, it is a multipart event, and the event at that time was part 5 of it. Those who had followed the course of the event were able to appraise whether or not they risked to miss a lot when coming later.

Well then there's no sense sending bus routes and timetables to someone who elects not to use public transportation. If I have an interest in taking a bus, I take it upon myself to **look** for the available information or ask someone. There's no "Bus Guy" who goes house to house knocking on my door every week asking me if I want the information.

But not using available IG apps is a choice you made. I check the list every couple of weeks looking for things that might be useful. Some people choose not to use BM preferring, due to their RP stance, to find stuff on their own. One can find the Ryzom Bosses web page the same way they find BM. Google "Ryzom Bosses". This is the 3rd hit

Yes, it is possible to ignore the appzone, web resources and announcements made in Uni. Usual attendance is 25 - 40. I can't imagine that you never saw the subject mentioned in Uni in the last 5 years.

I used to see you all the time but of late it's a very rare occurrence. I make just about every NPC hunt and don't see ya lite on Fiends List during those hours. Of course, that's when most of the Uni discussion about NPC Hunts will take place ... in the hour before and after the hunt. So if you're not on at that time, you won't see most of it. Then again, if you are not on during those hours, there's no reason to care whether any events are taking place.

A player arrives on Atys and they know mostly nothing about available resources. What exists about wiki, BM / Silenda sites, IG Apps, KipeeCraft, Zyroom, RyzomTracker, etc ? Players learn about them from other players, their guilds, forums, mentions in unichat the same way they learn about the hunts. We have new players joining all the time ... they seem to be getting the word. What resources do they have available to them that you don't ?
Bitttymacod
There is just one thing missing: Letting the player base (i.e. me) know this exists and reminding them on a periodic basis.  If I haven't heard of them, I cannot do anything but believe that there are many many others in my position

Do folks need a reminder that BM site or Ryzom Wiki exists ? Have you expressed an interest in attending the Hunts, or knowing when they were, to any players or in any chats ? If you have no interest in these player events, aren't showing up and never asking about them, then you won't know the schedule. But you do know that they occur, and if you wanted to know, all you had to do was look or ask what info was available ... the same way we all found out about the various in and out of game resources.

I'd love it if player events could be listed on the calendar and have made such a request to the Event Team. To date, response from the event team on other subjects have been short and non-committal with no follow up so far

Why isn't a post made every 5 days in forums ? ... for the same reason the boss doesn't send his employees a memo every week reminding them to show up for work on Monday and the same reason I don't get an email every week telling me what the bus schedule is ... the info is readily available to anyone who asks for it. If you are not interested in attending, then you don't need scheduling information.

Going back to that event planners guide, I have served on and chaired committees responsible for scheduling and running regional conventions for my professional association. How smart would it be to schedule our regional meeting (13 states) on the same weekend as one or more of those member states ?

Other organizations with similar focus do not send me their meeting notices unless I am a member or request same. But, as an event planner, it is OUR committee's responsibility to check their web sites and make sure our event does not conflict with theirs. Not to do so would be a dereliction of responsibility and cost the organization 10s of thousands of dollars due to reduced attendance.

For anyone to have been here since merge and never getting wind that NPC Boss Hunts occur from any of those sources seems unfathomable. As I said, announcements are made in Uni every time. There have been announcements in Uni that you can even get reminders to your cell phone numerous times. You don't have a "Welcome New Members" section in guild forum that lists resources, events, tech tips, player events, season changes ?

In our Guild Forums, we have links for:

Schedule
Guild Attendance Tracking
How Points System Works
Strategies
What Mats Needed for Crafting NPC Armor

If you would like me to send you some files so you could duplicate these in your Guild Forum I would be happy to do so.

No that doesn't hold up as a reason, let a lone a simple one. It can't be guaranteed So what ? When planning a BBQ for a 3 day weekend, I look at the weather forecast and it says :

Saturday: Thunderstorms
Sunday: Chance of Rain
Monday: Sunny

None of those forecasts are 100% guaranteed but which day would you pick ? The events are not 100% guaranteed either. What % would it have to be where one would intentionally schedule conflicting events ? If it's 99% does it make it a good idea ? 90% ? .. knowing that 9 outta 10 times you will eliminate 25 - 40 folks ... going back into our guild attendance records , for 2017, I see that it was cancelled once (2017-06-04). That's not a 100% guarantee but its 98% .  So no, I see no logic behind the mindset that says "we have a 2% chance that this won't be an issue".

When I brought the subject of Event Team not knowing about regularly scheduled player events such as this, that reasoning was described as "strange"

The issue is a simply yes or no question:

Will you have more folks attend an event with or without a conflict ?

In our team of 9, 1 went late and 4 would have gone if it hadn't started already.

As has already been demonstrated, the reliability of an event happening on date and on time is no more reliable than the Hunts. In my experience, when competing events happen, the hunt is always on on and is only cancelled when not enough folks show up.... once in 2017

It's a simple thing ... please refer back to the quote on event planning. If you want an event to be successful, do NOT schedule when you know you will have competition, it's pure common sense, excuses nonwithstanding. It existence is widely known among 99+% of the player base. Yes, sometimes a boss isn't there... what's the impact ? We are all there; the impact is a post in Uni, "Aen down, start at Pei.... the event still occurs." Recent events have had Event Leaders as no shows also.

When the cooperative hunts were restarted on this server, announcements were made, several meetings were held and the "every 5 days schedule" was established. How much reminding does one need to remember "every 5 days" ?

What would happen to a program director at a TV studio who opens their new big new series up against the Super Bowl ? Unemployment.

Why are opening days of movie releases set up and oft rescheduled so as to avoid competition w/ other big releases ?

When I was president of my professional organization, what would I do if they scheduled our convention in conflict with another event chasing the same audience ? They would be replaced.

If I don't know that public transit exists, I hardly know to ask for a schedule, now do I.

I have been on Boss hunts at times when I am online. Dante mostly, but also Goo-Pei. Nothing was ever said at that time about any regularly scheduled hunt.

It's true that I am not usually online at 20:00 UTC, but I can be if I make a special effort (such as when there is a Ranger Assembly). I've never seen any chat at that time either. Normally I'm online between 03:00 to 08:00.

It is one of the glories and the downfalls of Ryzom that the presence of information is only available through interaction with people in game. It makes things more intimate, but it also means that if someone doesn't know a thing exists they can't ask about it.

As far as the original complaint. Make your choice: Boss Hunt or Event. Events are one time only and according to you boss hunts are frequent. I know what I would choose.

In my opinion: yes.

If I don't know that public transit exists, I hardly know to ask for a schedule, now do I.

I just can't fathom a world where anyone living in a metropolitan city hasn't seen a bus or a train since they have lived there. I have traveled to 40 - 50 cities just in the course of being on the board of my professional society and I'm there for just 2 - 8 days.

It's rare when visiting those cities that I do not see a bus or a train on the way to the hotel from the airport. In none of those cities was there a lack of information on transportation available at the hotel ... in room, at concierge or at front desk. Similarly, I imagine folks have seen other folk walking around in NPC Armor. And if they didn't my only conclusion would be that they are on Silan or haven't played very much on ML.

I may not know that there's a water park, blues club, great restaurant nearby but when I ask "what attractions" are nearby", I do get pointed to a person knowledgeable on that subject.

Now if neither myself or anyone in my group is interested in using public transportation, I don't think there's justification in saying "nobody told me". What sounds more reasonable ?

a) I am interested in a particular service or a list of available services, so I ask someone in my group or anyone I see if they know ?

b) I have someone in my group (as in guild) assigned with the responsibility of assembling information and placing on the association web page (as in Guild Forum / MOTD) for the group's annual convention.

c) The hotel sends someone up to the room for each of the folks in your group at various times of the day to knock on the door and say "Hey, we have room service" .... 10 minutes later "Hey do you need public transit information ?" ... 10 minutes later "Do you need a list of attractions ?" ... 10 minutes later "Hey, we have dry cleaning and laundry service" ... 10 minutes later "Hey we have PC and print services in our business center". This is repeated at least once a day during your entire stay because folks need "repeated reminders".

Ryzom is a complicated game, As "Captain CRS", I don't see it as other player's responsibility to repeatedly remind me that resources exist. When guildies ask for new armor, we teach them how to know what QL they need or can use. They have the IG Bunny Tools, there's a spreadsheet we can send or they can remember or write down say "HA QL = Constitution + 10". It's the player's responsibility to write that down, bookmark the page or whatever.... not anyone else's to continually provide the same info over and over again.

"The recipe for WC Level 1 is 6-3-4-5-1":
"100% Damage recipe for ammo is Mitexi, Koorin / Gulatch, Any resin"
"The Ryzom wiki web page is ...."
"BM Weather chart can be found here..."
"BM Material maps can be found here..."
"BM XP Calculator can be found here..."
"Appzone can be found here..."

I certainly would not welcome repeated reminders such as those randomly spammed in uni ... if someone asks, will respond immediately if i see it.

A player "interested in learning about opportunities in game" would read those resources when directed thereto. If sent to Ryzom Wiki / or BM. I'd see the strategy guides on Wiki and the Dressing Room on BM ...

Can RyGReg be right in that you were "last seen on Atys" on May 25th. If that's the case, it would certainly be understandable that you weren't up on scheduling or other new activities. I see on the web site that PT has 1.46 points so someone in guild apparently knows about them. Someone was there on 04-15-2017, 12-28-16, 11-06-16 and 08-23-16.

For the mini bosses, I see you, Itzy, Sherkalyn and Hwinoree on the list. How do you track your mini boss points ? Who registers your attendance thru the app or whatever to get it listed here ?

http://www.ryzom-bosses.com/char.php

And since the "nobody knows" subject was broached here in this thread, I have been asking at other random times if anyone is unaware of the Hunts and, again, no responses other than "when is next one" ?

Granted, I would love to have a small box for **regularly scheduled** player events like group hunts, craft fairs etc which could by submitted and the event team decides whether they qualify for the spot. It's not like the page doesn't have loads of empty space. But that hasn't happened as yet and **if someone wants to participate** or find out what it's all about, all they need to do is ask.

Not everyone in guild participates in the various activities, but in our guild forum, we have threads for most all the events that happen on Atys.

The GMOTD always lists a) Next NPC Hunt, b) Next Season Change, c) Upcoming Atys Events of note and d) OP Battles if any

I, and others, don't go to OP battles so those have no interest in when they occur. We do make it our business however to make sure that our guild members, new and old, know about such events thru forum posts and GMOTD because we want our members to be aware of the various opportunities available.

The "Make a Choice" thing, is just illogical. Scheduling an event at the same time as another event is simply "Bad Planning". If it was unavoidable, yes, the choice thing makes sense; but that is certainly not the case here with a relatively empty calendar most of the time.

This week there are Zorai meetings on the 5th and the 8th, a Matis meeting on the 7th, same as the Hunt. With 3 events that week, maybe it couldn't be avoided, so yes, "make a choice" would then apply **in this instance**. Still, assuming an equal potential audience, which one gets more attendees ?

For the rest of September, the event team managed not to conflict ... that's good planning. As for the staff being unaware, that has already been addressed by staff as "unimaginable".

Freddy, I would welcome if (with your approval) the above post might be moved - together with related others - to the NPC boss hunt discussion forum.

As already told, I do not agree that the event team should take NPC boss hunts in account, at least not with top priority. It could be taken in account to some extent, ofc, to secure better participation.

But the top priority is the availability of the event guide organizing the event, and that one seems to have a narrow time schedule (in one part of the series, it did not even suffice to secure non french translation of in-event documents).
