After much careful consideration. ... I have decided it is easier to just not play Ryzom anymore.

Thank you everyone for your help. I may come back some day.

For now I'd rather deal with the real world than keep messing with this patch.

Stupid, stupid me I tried it again.

I was able after redownloading Ryzom beta clients to get the game to reinstall, reupdate, repatch, repatch, repatch and after the game started repatch again.

The key seems to be it has to be in /home/user/.local/share/Ryzom.

I sincerely hope you do not change the directory for the game again.

At the risk of offending or being redundant I would like to offer some type of documation for the steps I took to get the system to work.

Computer:
processor: 2x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33 GHz
memory: 3045 MB (1097MBused)
operating system: Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa
OpenGL Renderer: GeForce 210/PCie/ssed
X11 Vendor: The X.Org Foundation
Audio Adaptor: HDA-Intel-HDA Intel
Audio Adaptor: HDA-Intel-HDA Nvidia

1. Uninstalled steam: I had to use wine to do this. Then go to C:/Programs/Steam/Uninstall.

2. Renamed /home/user/.ryzom subdirectory to /home/user/RyzomOld.

3. Created subdirectory /home/user/.local/share/Ryzom

4. Downloaded new client from Ryzom beta clients

5. Extracted to /home/user/.local/share/Ryzom

6. Right click ryzom_installer_qt.

7. Copy files from /home/user/RyzomOld to appropriate places in /home/user/.local/share/Ryzom/ryzom_live

8. Right click /home/user/Ryzom/ryzom_live/ryzom_client to open.

9. Create shortcuts.

Nume -- Thank you for sharing the success and also the methods you used to get to that success. I wish more people who had problems would share the solution rather than *just* the problems. Believe me, I am taking notes for my Linux system.

Nume: why do you have to use wine to uninstall Steam? that's the reason it messed up, cause it downloaded a windows version over your WINDOWS STEAM. it should be no problem for people using linux steam or just a normal linux static client :/

Apparently players (and some CSRs :p) don't understand that if you change your client_default.cfg it'll be patched at next launch.

client.cfg is the only configuration file to change for client, it'll include client_default.cfg and overwrite values.

If you want to force Driver3D = "Auto"; to OpenGL (because you don't trust me when I told you that Auto == OpenGL), just add it it client.cfg but not in client_default.cfg.

And Linux client will download exedll_win32_.ref exedll_win64_.ref exedll_osx_.ref, etc... because that's like that patch system is working.

Why always complaining when there is something you don't understand ?

If you want to understand everthing just learn C++ and read Ryzom code :)

Nume: why do you have to use wine to uninstall Steam?

I used Wine to uninstall Steam after I went into Synaptic and tried to do a complete uninstall and looked through my Steam folders looking for a way to uninstall it. I also googled how to uninstall Steam under Linux.

As far as I remember I downloaded the Linux Version. Sometimes some programs use wine for what they say is their Linux version.

So in order to get Steam to completely remove itself I had to go under Wine to C:/Programs/Steam/uninstall.

I just know what worked.

lol No I did not understand that. I know I was driving myself crazy changing it again and again.

I'm sorry if you got your feelings hurt Xiombarg.

The program would not let me log in.

Thank you for all the work you have done Xiombarg.

It isn't the SSD. I was running one SSD and one normal, and both had the problem. It seems to have stablized now, but now I have a DIFFERENT problem.

In frustration, I completely uninstalled on the non-SSD machine, reinstalled the install program from the website, and now it says that there's no room to install the program. 0 bytes in fact. It's on crack.

The upshot is now that I cannot even install Ryzom on the machine that has run it for years despite a 0% defrag on both the primary and secondary drives and 200 GB + waiting to be written.

Hooray.

I feel for you Emilie. :(

Sorry you're having trouble Emilie

I usually cant get in on the first or second try , tonight I just left it, not going to stress myself out.

The client itself takes some time to open, and not getting in just compounds it.

im going to remove every last file i have besides my saves and install one more time clean

if its still being bad to me i dont see myself trying too hard

Trust me, I would like to understand this issue too :)

Please could you try this beta version of Ryzom Installer ? http://kervala.net/download/ryzom_installer_windows.exe

(and eventually send me your ryzom_installer.log from the directory where you chose to install Ryzom)

Thanks :)

In order:

Seems like the installer doesn't run, although I don't get the "no you suck, you have no memory on your hard drive" error now.

This is latest version of Win10 64bit, non SSD HD. What else do you need to know? I was trying to get most of the info on the screen.

"Retry" does nothing, "Ignore" came up with this result.

Thanks

Emilie,
You use a network disk?
Because it would be better to use a local disk.
Place the installer file "ryzom_installer_qt_r.exe" in your root "D:"
Run the installer and choose the installation directory "D:\Ryzom"
Also, you can try to right-click on the installer and choose "Run as administrator".

the "network" consists of that linux thingy which is in fact a modem/router and is not a "computer" per se and two machines which are networked with the assistance of the modem/router, which is what the cable company uses and belongs to them.

C is the main drive and the D is a partitioned secondary, so more theoretical than actual.

Run as admin doesn't work. I do that with everything to do with Ryzom. I already knew that one ^^

I also tried compatibility mode (win 7) and that didn't work either.
