IDEAS FOR RYZOM

So much of the knowledge of life on Ryzom is held only by old players.

Then the old player goes inactive.

I don't know if this was done to achieve more team play or what.

I would really like to go to the encyclopedia or help and actually have some help.

So my suggestions is:

BETTER HELP FILES

Thank you,

Nehrie

Some guilds have such help files. However, they are only available to guild members, as they should be, in my opinion.

I need me a new tag line on my messages!

I don't understand why help files should be the sole property of a guild unless that guild made the help files.

At some point Cathach* started writing a sort of (longer) manual for Ryzom. Unfortunately the player fell off the grid, and the last time we talked, he said his manual is "with the Ryzom team for translation", pending release. I would have a few choice words to say about this approach, but they're not too polite. In any case, the manual never got released, although the English version is probably complete. Maybe it *needs* to be translated to Korean first..

*I hope I got their name right ☺

Doesn't anybody use the Wiki anymore?
There is plenty of good information there, there is Silan manual and other manuals to Ryzom there.

I have heard of holy and sacred writings amonst some of guilds, also. I am not in a guild, however. BUT, I have gotten the recipes for all the occupations in the holy and sacred forums.

However, is is arcane knowledge to read the holy and sacred forums (it is a pain in the a$$ to search), and only the wisest in Atys can read these holy and sacred forums properly. I am but a grasshopper and an egg, thus, it confuses me until my head hurts.

I am a Fyros. What more do I have to say other than that?

Many times it is. A lot of times, such "help files" include things like standard tactics for the guild or preferred recipes or other things that they may not want to share with the entire population of Atys. Not all writers do a bang-up job of separating the "Everyone should know this!" stuff from the secret/semi-secret teachings of the Wise Masters.

Do not assume that you speak for all just because you are the loudest voice; there are many who disagree that simply have no desire to waste words on you.

Exactly! There is so much information available to players now: Bmsite, Ryzomtracker, Ryzom database, Ryzomwiki, Bunnytools, cookies guide, Lacuna's PR weather post, Casy's pvp point post, apprentice greedy crafter.... No need to focus on mysterious unknown things that we don't have.

To be fair, a standard / centralized location for information would be helpful. Preferably one that has an index.

Cathach´s manual is on the wiki in english and french. Thanks to Nilstilar for the most work done on the French translation.

And in the same time... during all those discussions between troll and flames, some crazy guys as me manage each day 6 wikis for everybody since Ryzom became "open".

And other people, as Zend, Craftjenn, Lanstirill, and even Tamarea..., fill it with a lot of informations... really, in vain?

*disappointed*

Not in vain
We still use the wiki
And the app devs who make in game tools no doubt, use the info

If there is any missing knowledge it can be added =)

The Wiki is the best single resource for information, Lore etc. and the Ballistic Mystix site and the other above mentioned sites have other strengths.

I have written articles for the Wiki and edited others. I am surprised that more people don't add to the many unfinished articles, for instance with lists of mobs to be found in a particular area. It is easy to do.

I use the wiki.

My concern is more with ingame help files.

Who runs these other sites? Could they just be taken down any day.

In the game I played previously the game was very dependent on a website called floxa's. Then someone killed her and looted her. She quit the game.

Medievia (the game) still uses that archived website but it is over ten years old.

I would just hate to see one of the external links shut down and there go any help files that IMHO should be included ingame.

I've never actually used the ingame help window, although now it seems to have a cool tutorial with on screen indicators :)

But generally, I sense an inconsistency, where you are saying the information players have collected should be public, yet your complaint is with the client's files, which players have no control over :(
