#1 Report | Quote[en]

Hi all,

I have just been reading some articles on repair and boss camping and have to say I am troubled by what I read, so I have questions:

1. I know that certain rare mats are only obtainable from bosses and apparently the obtaining of those materials has some to actually boss camp.

2. I JUST found out that you can't repair your own gear or that repairing of gear is even an option! So you have to buy new gear once your old stuff wears out/breaks.

So I would like to know: Is Boss and spawn camping still going or have all bosses been placed on random timers and/or randomized locations?

This the article I am referencing for boss camping from 2013

Thanks for your answers.

Got my answer form the code of conduct and apparently this is an ongoing issue with the game that the developers are not interested in addressing.

Peace and out!

It's really not an issue. Bosses respawn on variable timers and with something like approx. 4-7 possible spawn locations. People do know the value of those variable timers, but it means you'd need to camp them for 48h hours or more straight nonstop to make sure you catch it. And even if you spread out 4 alts across all spawn locations, chances are you still won't be covering all the spawns. So sure, there might be a little drama over this every once in a blue moon, but it's really not an issue at all.

I mean when we say its not really an issue, we're saying that it does happen and there's nothing we can do about it except camp bosses ourselves. I've only seen Ocyketh once in my 4.5 years on atys, and there are still other q270's that I've never seen. However because the population of active players is shrinking, people more and more have to invite others on Uni to help with a kill, or log in 3 other alts.. but thats another thread.

Actually thats probably my biggest problem with camping- these same campers will kill the boss with their team of alts, not even inviting any others in their faction or friends... I just can't personally justify investing that much time into being a selfish pr!ck.

Thank you for your replies Siela, Placio and Rikutatis.

With the coming steam release in 4 days this may again become an issue and forgive me if I am skeptical that it is still not occurring along with mob camping.

For now I am going to play the game on a free to play (trial) basis and see how things pans out concerning my research from the last few days.

Thanks again.

In fact I fail to see that boss camping ever was a real issue. The decision not to punish camping though it is not a good practice was merely pragmatic. It is hard to tell camping from resting or idling without a lot of effort. Campers never were superior to fast and experienced scouts, and I saw more pro scouts than campers even at times of phony complaints about camping.

Until the KP came back there was an issue with sup spot campers to some extent.

The problem that practically all bosses can be done in a team of 2 experienced players (possibly with an alt) is remaining. And it won't go away. Some bosses are more contested than others, and some of them easier to reach. And players with a lot of time to play have better reach to bosses than those playing a few hrs after work. That has been a problem all times.

Daomei,

What do yo mean supposed problem? Its been well documented and also polled that people don't like it and want it out of the game and that is has been an ongoing problem.
Give me a break and do some searching like I about it extent.

Also, to tell if you someone is resting versus camping all it takes is video taping it and the length of time they are there. Personally, I don't have time for this anyway because there is a camp (no pun intended) that don't see a problem with it because either they are doing it or support it or just don't care.

I asked a question because I saw that it was a problem but I'm with it .

It is ludicrous when you are telling me about a game you did not participate in. There was much noise about camping at a certain time, and there was a lot of guild, faction, and personal rivalry in it rather than hard proof.

Most players dislike camping, like other cheating and unfairness, and tend to jump on the bandwagon when hearing about. At that time I was mostly doing oncall and documentation work and had lots of time on Atys so I know what I am saying, namely that most of the complaints were unfounded. And, as said, good, experienced scouts can never be outperformed by low level campers unless the person steering them is using bots which is strictly banned (and can be traced to some extent).

But actually I recognize that you are interested in confirmation of prejudice rather than in facts.

Simple answer: yes. even with "random" timers it is very easy to stay on top of what will spawn. You can call it what you want but really yes, we are camping. This was always something that bothered me even though often times I was able to kill most things, with another player. If they were more frequent spawns, camping wouldn't even matter.
But oh no! These mats are supposed to be rare! We are willing to accept 2x xp but more mats are bad. Ryzom doesn't take your cookie but it's nice to pretend it does. things used to be much harder.

There is scouting, then there is camping. Define the whine.

A couple days ago our guild with another guild took down 10 bosses in one day. It may have even been 11.
We scouted, did not camp. If the boss was not there, we went back later and scouted again. It was a good hunt imo. We do not do that every day mind you, but that day was good.
I recognize when one or two guilds take that many bosses it eliminates others from getting them, but to me, it is just a case of experienced players knowing when and where they are going to pop. Others can gain that experience and knowledge too if they play the game with that goal in view.

If this game goes on Steam, i suggest we have more boss spawns, AND...Open up more OP's!

(Errr edit: It was 13 bosses)

Me too Nae! I used to scout lots too while my friends scouted the other lands. We would even take turns teleporting to other zones to ensure that we were only scouting and never camping. As long as you are moving and switching zones it's not camping. It's only an educated guess when something will spawn and as long as me and my pals can cover all zones and keep rotating its all good. I wonder how many tickets were sent in over broken named or bosses that appeared lost xD

It touches this only marginally, but I want Bodokin moved on the Red List as a protected animal. Save Bodokin!

On your second point, Evilar ;

No you cannot repair any kind of gear but this is not a problem. If you are using your gear - weapons, armour or jewels, you are levelling up. As you level up you become able to use higher quality gear, so you should be replacing your gear well before it wears out.

An exception is the Pick for digging, which you will find yourself wearing out and replacing on a regular basis if you do any Foraging.
