Thanks Arfur for the explanation.

Thanks Bones for confirming my suspicions and the evidence I came up with.

Camping certain high value bosses with alts used to be an issue (for me)- not sure if it still goes on or not. Some players deny it even happened when the camping alts were there 24/7 and you'd have to have never explored those regions or have your head buried in the sand to miss them.. Others never found an issue with the alts, others camped themselves to overcome it etc etc.

Tried many times to get the devs to completely randomise the spawn location and times of bosses which would eliminate camping altogether. If you can't beat them join them or scout very hard because the devs aren't going to help.

It is fascinating how somebody with zero experience in the game is jumping to conclusions. One may agree to Bones' terms considering intense scouting with accounting for last boss' demise as "camping", or not. The algorithm is that after a boss is down, respawn will not occur for the next 36hrs, then occur randomly before 72hrs since its death have elapsed. There are 25 q270 bosses and no less 220 bosses, roughly half of them especially valuable. Nearly each has 2-4 spawn locations, some of them close to one another, yet you would need an army to monitor them all all times using camping, especially camping with low level alts.

Scouts may traverse a region in a few minutes, and there are "only" about 20 regions to monitor. And scouts do not care for dp, instead use death teleport for fast movement. Therefore you don't need more than 3 or 4 scouts and 10-15 minutes to check all boss spawns. And if you know the time of demise of a boss you have to monitor only 1,5 days of the 3 days respawn period.

When Naema and her friends found and killed 11 bosses on one day, and those were, as I suppose, both 220 and 270 bosses, this was a good hunt. But that were not all of the average of 16-17 bosses spawning or being available every day. Mind that there are also 170, 120, and 70 bosses useful when crafting young players' equipment. Some guilds, even solo players (cough) hold alt guildhalls to store the <160/170 boss and named stuff.

In fact, boss hunt is somewhat too easy for experienced players. But I fail to see that this can be fixed easily.

@Virg: In fact, there have been phony complaints about boss camping at that time, funnily by a guild which achieved 5-10 high level boss kills per day (the other one with similar results - Nathanel's and Joabu's - denied these complaints). I challenged them as well as I was patrolling all high level regions regularly at that times for reasons of my RP rather than for scouting, and did with very few exceptions never see one of the alleged camping suspects.

I want to stress that I define camping as Naema did, and do distinguish scouting and camping.

I'm not sure why you're investing so much time in being condescending to a returning player Dao, but no one ever said that EVERY boss is camped. The reality is that regions with valuable bosses often have a few stationary players and known alts stashed at safe places. The alts are either known to be operated by a player that uses the maximum allowed number of clients, are completely anonymous yet don't move for 3 days at a time, or don't even deny camping- some even have camper added to their names.

You can argue that there are still other bosses available, and that camping cannot ensure 100% success, but the question was: "Is Boss camping still happening?" and the answer is that it has happened in the past, probably is happening now, and there's nothing to prevent it from happening in the future.

This probably won't affect many new Steam players, as the frequently camped bosses are for pvp gear and NPC armor, so mats would need to be q200+.

One of the bosses that I'm almost sure it's camped would be Ocyketh in Thesos. I have seen several times characters in refugee clothes standing very near to the points of spawn, to the point where simple coincidence that "it's a noob exploring" becomes very implausible. Especially when you notice the same name 3 times in a row.

I can only assume that other bosses may be camped in a similar fashion, but since I don't have data, I reserve judgment until later.

What's funny is that those complaining about camping never provide proof. If you meet a camper alt several times in a row, surely you can grab a few snapshots at least twice ... ?

edit:

Steam (and any expansion of the player base) would help. The more eyes going over all regions, the less chance for a camper to actually be the first to notice one at spawn.

moan moan moan... i have killed ocyketh.. five times since being back and almost every boss 220 and above. There are few hard to get bosses because of the high amount of (i want NPC HA) scouts. So stop the moaning and spend the same amount of time looking.

The devs have already changed the timers. Pre merger i could kill a boss once and you would never see it again for the next month or until i wasnt online for it pop's.
yes my reply is blunt.

1) Nitrouss wasn't talking to you.
2) Blunt or not, that was Nice Nitrouss (sorry for blowing your cover, Nitrouss.)
3) Ryzom is what it is and is in the process of changing, albeit at a snail's pace.
4) The best way to find out if you will like the game is to test it. Make an F2P account, do the beginner area and come to the mainland. The only limits on the F2P accounts are the level cap at 125, a certain amount of storage, and the XP doubler you get for subscribing.
5) Either you will play it and have fun and keep playing it or you will play it and not have fun and quit. If you are unwilling to invest a little time in it, not all the glowing reports nor acidic criticisms in the Forums are going to tell you what the game is actually like.

Nah Bitty and I wasn't talking to you. I'll pass because the shortcomings of this aren't worth my time.

#29 Report | Quote[en]

Shortcomings? What a shame, because this is an insanely fun and addicting game.

#30 Report | Quote[en]

I can appreciate the fact you feel the game isn't for you Evilar. I also do a lot of research before I pick up a game, MMO or single player. Too many games, not enough time, and I have my own preferences. However I think to base your entire opinion on a game from what you read on the forums, you run the risk to end up with a malformed opinion in the end.

Boss camping, for example. No, I dont camp bosses, that's not why it doesn't bother me. It doesn't bother me because that isn't a major part of my gameplay and I don't think it happens in a large enough scale to disrupt my activities. There's no way to know how much it'll bother you til you've experienced it yourself. Obviously you can see some ppl are more upset by it than others (but you may also notice ppl who are actually active boss scouters don't seem to care, so if you make an effort to get the bosses, you will)

Another example: just recently I was afraid to try a game because 80% of the gamers said the combat was too slow paced and rooted. But since all other features sounded good to me I decided I could only know for sure by trying it myself. And to me, the combat pace was perfectly fine, very engaging. People just came to expect korean twitchy gameplay with swords and spins flashing all around the screen. No way to tell til you try it.
