I heard about the upcoming Steam release and wanted to play again.
I recently switched to Windows 8.1. It's all patched and updated.

Ryzom installed fine and on first run downloaded a small patch. After that whenever I launch it, it crashes like this:





I tried to search the support forums but couldn't find anything.

When you say "fully patched and updated", I assume that you mean the Windoz, since your version of Ryzom is 1.5.0 and the current Windoz version is 2.1.0 . It might be that a fresh download of the Windows client followed by the usual patching sequence will work better.

Hmm, it seems like it downloaded the first patch then wanted to restart the launcher, and now it crashes.

The installer I have is still the same one from the download link on the main page.

i've encountered this as well on win 8.1 pc's. it seams that it's best to run the updater manually from the ryzom install folder.

if that doesn't work, there's also the directx error that's poped up since windows 7 was introduced, which directx is a runtime. (doesn't look like win 8 give's good info on the error.)

i've also had errors related to the OLD version that's hosted on the site, i've had extremely good results using the torrent download of ryzom. it's high time they get the old 1.5 install (hosted on the site) replaced with the 2.1 we're on now. (i thought this issue was addressed many months ago and was one of the things on the list to be changed in the future, and it seams we're still waiting on the future to come...)

if all else fails and you have access to a windows xp or windows 7 computer you can install ryzom on that computer, then copy the installed copy of ryzom to a portable drive (flash or external harddrive) and you can then copy that onto the windows 8 computer, if ryzom runs properly on the old computer, then it should (stress should) run fine when you copy that install to the win8 computer. ryzom will also run fine off of the portable drive, even on computers that haven't officially had ryzom installed it will run. (really handy if you want to run ryzom from work or another place you can't install it)

there are also 3 folders you can delete the contents of in the ryzom install folder that might help: CACHE ; UNPACK ; USER. do not delete the folders, only the contents of each, and try again.

Where can I find the updated torrent? The updater crashes, removing those folders contents changed nothing.

ps. may be a DEV, CSR, OR EVEN A WG OFFICAL SHOULD CONSIDER GETTING THE UPDATE ON THE MAIN SITE (and also putting back the option to download via bit torrent like it was on the old ryzom.com)  i sure hope that if ryzom get's on steam they get the updated installer, and not the old v1.5 one..... (it makes ryzom look bad when the first thing someone needs to do is update a brand new download.)
