by the way i see it the only thing this game have that i dont find much anywhere else is the freedom*
to play as I wish
choose friends and play with them
cant find a resonable reason to put (more) restrictions to game.
benefits to someone who will agree with restriction i can agree with that

only thing i cant agree is to give more restrictions to the ones who want to play and keep free in game

so the only thing i would add if i could would be a new kind of guild* (call it Neutral able to add all factions or kinds of play modes to keep friends together no matter where they want to be in game)

if by other hand the decision is on split everyone than encript talks and factions to get only available to the faction

(dont forget to cut commerce to kamis on kara lands and to karas on kami lands too*)

the idea to create more restrictions and limitations wont help the game on anything!
thats only my point of view

Hm, talking about incentives to align or not align: what if a "normal" guild could not initiate any outpost fight? Obviously, if you have both kamis and karas in guild, neither higher power would be willing to build a drill for you.

I would also say that such a "normal" guild may also be forbidden to take part in wars started by others, but such a limitation would be too strong.

I keep without understant if this is a Forum problem or if its only players posting without read or try to understand what the others say...
Or maybe simply too greedy to see the advantages "To the Game"

"Its simple to see the advantages to prevent some enemies to attack us"

advice:
Focus on what is need to make your game better. Do not let wants and desires distract you from what really matters.

Good idea - will never happen ofc - role players would vomit being primary reason - but also think no one is capable of altering the coding stuff that much - for the game

I vote for "free" guilds - any alliance for tp's / "old times' sake"/ chats, etc

Free guilds do not own ops

Free guilds with free homins who can help any side they want to - including fighting against own members of guild if they like - being as fighting has, sometimes, just been what homins do for a bit of fun

Oh - and very little role play - friendship and "others" being mostly reason to be here in game and kill/ rez/ sell stuff in shops, etc.

Can align with one region - being as having citizenship means having better trade with New Horizons - for crystals/ piks/ catalysers for little members/ generic mats

No. One reason that seems to not be sinking in:

Fame is not how you percieve others, it is how they percieve you.

probably should repeat that a few hundred times because its very clear its just not being understood!!!!

Take me, I have 100 Kami fame.

If I joined a guild that openly accepted marauders, Trytonists and karavaneers, how do you think the KAMI WOULD SEE ME?

Not worthy of 100 fame anymore. I just betrayed my supposed loyalty to them, openley and with total disregard.

bam -50 fame and no PR tps for me - should be the consequence. Though I'm saved from instant justice by having to renounce first.

Thankfully, I am 100% enamoured with the Kami, and have even gifted them my soul. ;P

Also for any wisecracks spouting genious rationalisations such as "Im a spy for the marauders, infiltrating another guild"

Nice one, very sucsessfull cover you have there, useing Mara TPs, having the entire marauder faction (from the npcs PoV) know who you are, and that every nation and the powers also have your wanted posters out with your face on them. Best cover ever :p

A real spy would have positive fames, have taken the appropiate rite and be sending izams back to their real guild/clan leader in the middle of the night.

So please dont use that lame attempt at not-RPing as a way to try and manipulate the argument in your favour. Everyone knows its BS even if they couldnt put their finger on it.

Destroying the foundations of what makes ryzom, ryzom, is a really bad idea.
Add to the fact, that no-one and nothing is stopping you from just renouncing, so that you can be in the guild you want to be in - and if renouncing is too big of a step, then you know where your prioritys are, and thats fine too.

Exactly, Xtarsia.

It's all been said before, but still:

Which brings me back to the point of why the existing teaming, forming a league and using self-created extra "secret" chat channels does not suffice to be friends with others?

There are quite a few players out there who use those means to play with their friends. Some of them play characters in different guilds than the friends, some decided for their chars to remain unguilded. No problem.

To me it's all about priorities for the devs to focus their work on. This particular idea - while convenient to a few players if implemented - changes quite a few things concerning the game's balance between the powers for all those who take those powers seriously. Imho, there's far more things that should be done first. Simply because there's already a very viable workaround for those who are proposing this idea.

If anything, this (and the other thread about this topic) should alert any devs out there to heed the consequences of a partial release of new features: Whatever you say and do, half the folks do not remember later on that changes might be bugfixes or just missing pieces which should have been there from the start of that new feature...

I'd just like to point out that i disagree with the use ofthe word 'normal' to describe anything. What is normal is very subjective and the closest thing would be average, but I have no desire at all to be average!

open mind??

strange since his post was really close minided RP post thinking in boxes and wanting more restrcitive boxes in this so called sandbox

IMHO RP should be realistic decision making not staring at fame numbers. I don't feel that "I'm <faction here> so I do <action here>" is good RP. I think RP should be: "I'm <faction here> so I should do <action here>, but I'm gonna do <another action> cause I feel it's the right thing to do". And when toons make their own decisions other toons must decide how to respond to it. "Let's declare a war on this guild that betrayed the faction" or "let's forgive them". I feel these decisions are much better RP than any number you can see in your stats. That's just my opinion, we should do what most players want.

Xtar:

You have 100 Kami fame.
Therefore I am sure you are well aware of the four primary principals:
1) To eradicate the Goo.
2) To retain an equilibrium between flora and fauna and hence preserve their habitat.
3)Recruit Homins to their cause
4)Oppose the Karavan (a Karavan is not a supporter of the Karavan- rather the space dudes themselves)

Now you should 'recruit homins to your cause'. Being in a guild with many players of different beliefs who are your friends gives you imo the best opportunity you could ask for to recruit others. Trying to recruit strangers to your religion isn't exactly well received.

You may repeat whatever you want 100 times but if you fail to consider there are other opinions and other ways to RP you may come to understand that what you are saying is narrow minded and maybe only worth saying once.

wow!

i want a guild were everyone that's posted to this topic can be together. the chat in that guild would never stop, and there would always be something to discuss and debate.

let's try this:

why do most players align? to get PR tp's. (to have access to other regions via a teleport, NOT anything to do with RP. {myself and many others i know})

would a guild where (just an example for the friends names i use here, please don't get mad at me) talkirc, suboxide, bitttymcod, rubiksmomo, and binarabi are all together (that's kami, mara, ranger, kara, and trytionist incase anyone didn't know) really going to hurt the game? no, but it sure could make it interesting given all the different views that could be represented in a single gathering.

no matter what banter we go on about, it's not likely that we'll get a guild where we can mix, and while i'd love it (cookies is the compromise to this, and i'm without a doubt part of that already.) i know that the odds of this comming to pass are slim.
I would like to see us able to have more then 2 dynamic chat channels (so that we can have our "special chats") and more controll over it.
how about a warehouse where the owner (eg like a guild leader) could grant or revoke access? with our cookies chat we have to collect everyone back after every server reset, imagine how fast a guild would die if it was required to do so. with cookies there's no way that someone can get the mat's i have for another cookie to craft if i'm offline (no guild hall or warehouse) so it's just not the same to use a chat channel, there are some serious limits to what we cookies can do because we don't have a storage system we can all share, nor do we have a chat channel that is going to always be there.

would a guild that had a little of everything kill the game? i'd say not given that the last time i counted cookies had roughly 70+ ACTIVE (but not all in chat channel because some have given up having to rejoin all the time, or are limited by the 2 dynamic channel limit to have the cookies chat open as well as the other's required by their gameplay and allience.) i can't tell the number of times that the cookies members have killed eachother at an OP war, it happens every single war where more then one side shows up (thinking of the times no one on the "other side" knew there was a war) but sometimes even then cookies that were all on the same side will kill eachother just to create some fun where there was nothing more then guard bashing. (seams to me that a multi guild would always find a way to have a good time.)

something else everyone should think about: regardless of the guild's alignment or lack of, the PLAYERS would still be limited to the restrictions of factions. i think that EVERYONE forgot that this wasn't about giving a guild more of anything beyond the choice of who is invited. just because i'm kami if i was invited to a kara guild i wouldn't get the kara tp's too, nor would i get anything else that's kara, i'm kami and limited as a toon to kami stuff.

you can't trade kami/kara/mara pvp gear so a mixed guild can't do that (bashing someone's claim this would be game braking with that point) someone said that gear would become obsolete, i sure don't see how that's true either, since no two recipes are the same and the merchants don't sell anything beyond junk anyway.

i read every word of this post before i wrote this, and it's amazing how far from the point this went at times. the cookies group has NO advantage over another guild beyond more people to play with and talk to, so anyone that thinks this is a bad idea, doesn't have a clue to be honest. i'm amazed to see cookies on both sides of this topic to be honest (granted that i only see one or two that are against this idea, and those are 100% rp only {i'd say the person, not the homin, does see that this isn't a bad thing, but the homin does})

i for one love this idea of not limiting a guild to who can join, a guild is a group, limit the individual, the player should choose his path, not be forced to follow a guilds path.

i think the only reason some don't like this idea is because they would have to get to know people 1 on 1 instead of just ruthlessly attacking a guild's seal. (makes me think of when i was in PR treking a noob and got attacked by fellow kami because at the time there was a mara in WaO, i was attacked based on my guild's seal and name, and not by my personal actions {given i've ALWAYS been a dedicated and devoted kami}.) so i guess those that are not happy about this idea are worried they'd have to get to know a individual before they killed, and could no longer just say "kill that guild". for those that think this idea makes things easy, think on what i just said, because let's face it, that's how things are in ryzom (even i'm guilty of doing it, for the longest time i wouldn't speak to a single member of "just us" simply because they were a member of "just us".)

i want to keep going but i think this novel has said enough at this time. i'll await future posts and those that want to directly discuss with me things before i go on.

talk
