I have just been told that the /silly emote is offensive to french players. Great to know I have been going around calling some players idiots without meaning to. I was then told the /wave emote can also be offensive for them. Firstly are there any other emotes people should be cautious of using? If so please list them here.

Secondly the basic idea is can these few emotes be changed to reflect similar meanings within each language? Silly is just a light term used in a joking way.. idiot.. well goes without saying.

I think it's more of an insult to girls! Whoever would exalt such a slacker to the status of ryzom girl needs to fall on my axe ;p

what about custom made emotes? shouldn't we get a new tag like $t.language[eng/fr/de/es/ru]$ I guess it would make custom emotes a bit more complicate to make but i'm sure if you ask around you'll find ppl to translate your emote and the bauty is in a macro it only needs to be done once.

ps. off topic but a selector for race would be great aswell, not like $t.race$ now that says what race homin is but a $t.raceselector[tryker text/fyros text/zorai text/mob and matis text]$

I'm also particularly confused by /silly. I'm assuming the emotes were written in French first since the majority of Devs speak it, so how does calling someone an idiot translate into silly? especially since the word idiot is the same in both English and French...

Other games - they give you a cookie whether you succeed or not, in fact you don't even have to participate. Ryzom takes your cookie, eats it in front of you, and slaps you 2 or 3 times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

Now you most definately know why it is seen as offensive ... that is a huge difference between the english meaning and the french/german one.

I think "idiot" is not that offensive in french. "Crétin" would be more.

People who complain about that have exagerated, or, you spam this emote like a little child, or, you are a marauder and anything you do upset them before it begins :)

Also, If someone says something to me that I find offensive anyways they are either my friend and are saying it as a joke or they are someone who is not my friend in which case I don't care what they say because their opion will not even exist in my mind to begin with. If it was originally written in Frenchh why is it brought up all these years later. /silly

I don't speak French and so I don't understand how only now it is being labled as offensive after all of these years is all. People say far worse things to each other on a daily basis so maybe I'm just used to it. I could have just wrote this the first time but as we all know I am VERY lazy lol. I know people are trying to improve the game but I'm still lost on this one. I mostly use custom emotes at this point in my play so this really wouldn't change me one way or another.
