Windows says the Ryzom client is multi-threaded. At least Task Manager shows 11-12 threads, going as high as 15 right after starting the client. You can check for yourself if you go to View -> Select Columns.

This is getting more and more puzzling ..

But is isnt automatically aware of multiple (physical/logical) CPUs, so all instances are running with CPU 0.

After manual readjustment thinks are running much more smooth.

Experiences with bill2's process manager:

I took my time to play a little bit with it. The process manager works well in general, but it seems like it is just an automation for the things I can do myself in the taskmanager as well. It looks like it can not change settings, which can also not be changed in the taskmanager.
I made a rule for Ryzom, spreading it over all cpu's (additionally with lower priority.)
when I start Ryzom, bill2's process manager tells me in a balloon tip, that the rules for Ryzom have been applied.
when I check the taskmanager, I see that only one core is used, at close to 100%, also Ryzom has normal priority.
The taskmanager hangs often now too.
Checking the Bill2's process manager, it shows that Ryzom is marked red. (an unaltered process)
beside that Bill2's process manager only detects 4 cpu's but also hyperthreading - which is not the case.
I tried almost everything possible with it - it is unable to spread Ryzom over multiple cores (also unable to change priority of Ryzom)
Maybe it is good when you run Ryzom more than once, but in my case it is no help
Summary:
Beside a few minor bugs Bill2's Processor manager is awesome, it does not help with my Ryzom-problem tho.

Update on effects of changing various other settings in Ryzom will be here later.
Desperation taking over.... Any help welcome.

wow, this is the first time anyone has had that problem with bill2's process manager that i know of. i had offered it as a solution because like you another player couldn't do a manual change to the process via the windows task manager, which the bill2 somehow bypassed on his system. there should be no reason that you can't change the affinity of the process with the default task manager and until now bill2 was a work around for that strange bug. I'll do some digging and see if there's some strange windows setting that prevents someone from changing affinity manually with default programs. if we can just figure out how to get your ryzom to run on more then one core we can really knock down the cpu usage.

i'll do some searching and see if i can find anything about this odd issue that will help us. don't loose hope or give up nutsy, there are devoted homins trying hard to find the answer to the issue at hand. keep us up to date so we know what, if any, progress is being made.

You're awesome. Thanks for digging :)
Since I only check forums like once or twice a day, maybe I can speed up things a little bit by offering direct channels. If you like me to rush to the PC for testing something - feel free to do so.
What I can offer is FB, ICQ, MSN, AIM, Skype.
Contact requests for any of those above via stefan.meissner@mb-audioline.de. Supported languages ger, en.

I literally over-reacted on some Ryzom settings only available via text files. Ryzom is running without hardware pointer, without hardware sound, openGL and Windowed now. So far I can not say if the problems are gone 100%, but it looks like it. Update about that tomorrow.

Update:
I did a lot of changes at once - the solution was not among it.

Ok so.... The old PC broke, I've plugged it in once too many. Never mess with static electricity.
I have no way to play Ryzom at the moment, I can just log in and enjoy seeing it hang.
I'm not gonna pay for something I can not use, and I'd like to go on where I left the game as soon as that is possible again.
For now my only question is: What happens to my toon(s) when I stop paying?

Nothing, they will get conserved until you are coming back.

You might want to back-up your Ryzom folder though, or at least the files in your Save subfolder.
