By all the gods I wish it worked like that for me.

- check what season the source is active
- check the weather on BM
- pop down and dig

You forget the fact that most sources will already be depleted.  I have on many occasions tried to ascertain when a source will be refilled.
- at Season change?  Not for me
- after a patch?  Not for me
- after a server reset?  Not for me
In all cases I have been at the source seconds after a 'refill event' - even when the weather is favourable - and got nothing.

I have heard that Weather is different on OSX - so I have done the dance, prospecting every 2 mins throughout the best - good - bad - worst cycles and got nothing.

I can honestly say that I have spent (not wasted) many tens of hours and literally hundreds of DPs trying to dig supes in PR - I get a pop maybe 1% of the time, usually coinciding with a KP.

If what Binarabi and others say is true, I can only conclude that the system does not work the same for everyboy.  It certainly doesn't work for me.

That does NOT mean that I am going to give up.  I am an Atysian after all, a Homin, a Matis and a Kara.  I know life on Ayts burdens us with more joy than frustration, and that frustration is Jena's way of telling me to TRY HARDER.

Weather is server-side - so even if your client is displaying it wrong, BMsite has server data and should be a decent indicator.

You could test the theories in lower level regions perhaps? EF is quite the decent place for most of its mats.

Thx for the advice Mjollren :-)

The weather variable is the most predictable part of it and I usually get pops when I expect to according to the BM Weather graph.  My problem is the nodes are almost always empty when they do pop.

I am done testing theories - I will keep trying whenever the season / weather is favourable.

Just to clarify that bmsite does not have server data. Bmsite weather source code is available from http://api.bmsite.net/

Current problem with client side weather is that it's dependent on how cpu handles floating point percision and rounding. All client in all platforms in various bit-size have all different understanding how its done. It also depends on compiler options.

When steam client is released (and server side patch), weather should be same for server and client because calculation is changed to integer math (integer hash actually).

Ask Lacuna - she is Goddess of pr dig and you can enrol on her course - UNit 101 Prime Roots digging - but the entry test is fierce!

See here

The aggro do come when it is due to pop (not going to moan here about the various cheats that some have for getting around this)

And, alas, you ARE Matis and Male - so probably doomed anyway!

This idea of "I'm offended". Well I've got news for you. I'm offended by a lot of things too. Where do I send my list? Life is offensive. You know what I mean? Just get in touch with your outer adult. (Bill Hicks)

i still say put the sand back in the sandbox and make merchants SELL all grades and qualities of mats. until this happens only a handful of people will ever get these mats, giving one group something while prevents others from getting it.

but i know, it would be game braking if everyone had access to the same stuff on a limitless basis, the server would crash, the oceans would run dry, and the moon would fall out of the sky.

seriously, you can say what you want about merchants that sell excellent and supreme mats would brake the game, but you'll never convince me of it, mostly because it's a game and my idea would level the playing field. i guess those that have the best stuff would rather ensure their advantage by calling my idea bad, then owning up to the fact that they might get their butts handed to them if everyone truely did have the same stuff.

by far the fairest option in the game would be a NPC selling this stuff, let the lazy buy it, and the adventurers go dig it, no loss either way for either group. balance and fairness is what i propose, that is a fact that no argument can dispute, because anyone can walk up to an NPC and spend dappers, but not anyone can dig these "rare" mats.

ok i've ranted enough, i await steam, so i can be joined by 100's of others that all say the same things i do, maybe then the controlling few can meet their match and see i wasn't just blowing smoke. (and i didn't even use the "other games" argument this time.)

talk

(still want to see a more equal system, where one isn't forced to beg, and can do things themselves, and please, don't give me bs about how players can sell these mats, it never happens, they have gh's worth of mats they simply hoard. even caught a rumor that someone has a GH that's only for sup zun, and it's half full of Q250 sup zun. who honestly needs that much....unless they just want to make sure no one else get's any?)

(oh ya, and for those of you that don't like this idea, no one's putting a gun to your head to use these NPC's should they be made, just saying, cause after all, it's your choice to dig or buy, keywords being "YOUR CHOICE" so please save any RP gripes because no one would force you to use the npcs if they exsisted)

Sorry Talk, I just don't like the idea. You keep saying it and saying it, but I don't like it either. If somebody feels they can't 'Dig' those sup. mats, then learn how. Even I have and I'm not that good. It takes time, but little by little you post the info on your flags where the mats are, and the season, and if necessary, time of day. Then, you check BM site for when they pop, you watch the weather on BM site and learn which season it pops according to their chart on the season/months page.

It actually makes the game fun to learn these things imo. It is kind of like learning where the safe routes are through aggro. It is a game that is fun to learn the intracasies of.

I don't beleive in making the game easy by being able to 'Buy' any mat you want. If you did that, it would have to be SUPER SUPER expensive to compare with forgoing the knowledge of learning to do it yourself, plus time expended to the point you would want to just learn to do it and then go do it! This is Ryzom for crying out loud. I love this game because lots of things are very hard.

If you need help getting a mat, let me know, i will team up with you to fight the pr bosses, or invite you to come dig in PR. Its not that hard. It is actually fun.

it's ok nae, i'm greatful for the offer (another of many).

it's just an old dead horse i always drag around, i know it'll never happen, and that's ok.

believe it or not i agree that learning is fun, and exciting, but we're a select few that like to inflict mass pain on ourselves. i just like to keep the fact that not everyone does, and that steam is going to be lot's more that want both options, the "quick and easy" and the "slow and steady". i also like to voice ideas that are 100% fair to all parties, eg a merchant. (another option would be to inflate the numbers of mat's in a location from the small handfuls they are, to amounts that would really offer a fair chance to everyone. the right few get to the spot, 10 minutes later there's nothing left for 16 days of "refill" time. i can understand they want a "special feel" but with such low numbers it goes beyond special into the realm of "why bother trying" (arfur's story is one i've heard many times over the years.)

anyway, getting off topic, so i'll let it go.
