Played a little with opensuse build system and managed it to create packages for fedora20, openSUSE13 here

Hello!

#19 [en]

I was inclined to intervene in this 'discussion', until I realised that it is primarily about static clients. I only build dynamic ones and I have been doing so for some time, without any issues. To compile a sensible dynamic client, across a number of Linux-based Operating Systems, you do need to build libwww and libsquish, although most now incorporate liblua.

As yet, I will add, I have not managed to successfully build a server with dynamic libraries. This still only seems to work with static libs.

I pull my source with;

hg clone https://bitbucket.org/ryzom/ryzomcore/compatibility /opt/ryzom

After building libwww and libsquish, from Kervala's package, my own CMake client only string is;

cmake -DWITH_NEL_TESTS=OFF -DWITH_NEL_SAMPLES=OFF -DWITH_NEL_TOOLS=OFF -DWITH_RYZOM_SERVER=OFF -DWITH_RYZOM_TOOLS=OFF -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX:PATH=/usr/local -Wno-dev ..

Of course you can change CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX:PATH to install wherever you wish. The -Wno-dev simply stops the developer's compiler warnings.

Not at all. This thread promotes some community resources, which include documentation for both statically and dynamically linked clients. Then it was hijacked by some people who thinks one and only one almighty individual is better than everyone else.

If you have something to add to the documentation, feel free to do so. It's a wiki, everyone can contribute. People are also welcomed to talk on the #ryzomforge irc channel on freenode. There, you can meet a lot of people contributing to Ryzom in many different ways.

Hi Marceline,

you can delete it already after running ryzom_update, if you want. But you don't have to, it doesn't matter. But for copying with ryzom_update it has to be there.

community.... i'd sure go out of my way to offer help if the first thing others do is start trash talking and complaining.  those that said thanks for boosters help did so because what he said WORKED for them, are you mad because your answers to the issues didn't work and his did? how childish that would be.  if a single player says someone's stuff is the best, that's an opinion of that player, and has a right to be expressed by that player; it doesn't however require other's that work on linux to start trash talking.

if you want to offer constructive help for this thread, please post it here on this thread, if you want to bad mouth, trash talk, or dog someone please direct those comments and posts to the link below:

Ok, so I noticed on Ryzom Forge to make plushies, etc, you need 3ds max, Well, i went to the web page and it looks like its a Windows program. I use a mac, is there an equivelent program you can use for OSX? I would like to learn this :D

I have already decided that I will not be adding any further comments to this thread, after this entry. I am not into flaming, name-calling, unnecessary adulation or downright rudeness.
The Core coding team work well together and for the benefit of all Ryzom users and I have never seen this sort of display on their site.

You MIGHT be able to use blender - the ryzom core people were trying to convert everything for blender but you'll have to ask them first if they are done with everything related to making it possible to use blender instead of 3Ds max and if they are what to keep in mind
