IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Would be lovely if this illegal action was actually enforced.

Also in terms of enforcement how about actually removing the farmed items rather than just slapping a wrist or two?

Come on devs when something is illegal actions should be taken to prevent it from happening. This completely diminishes all the hard work put in by true PVPers to earn their items.

This 'illegal' action isn't explicitly illegal in the Code of Conduct, despite how immoral(?) pvp point farming is, i don't see how a bunch people killing each other in GoC is any different from another bunch doing so in void. As of farmers killing their alts... If they really want to spend their time on it then so be it, you're free to do stuff as long as it doesn't get in anyones way or goes against the CoC.

It is a kind of exploit and therefore illegal and goes against the CoC (just came from a GM)

<<The concept of "exploit" covers any use of a third-party program or a bug to gain an advantage over the other players>>

I just took that from the CoC, farming pvp points is neither achieved via third party programmes nor is it a bug, it doesn't give any advantage over other players as I see it.

It has always been common for csrs to have diverging interpretations regarding the rules, so a punishment would depend on whether you're lucky enough to catch the more flexible-minded one.

Besides, there is no substantial proof for them to work with should it be deemed really illegal e.g the bunch pf people killing each other in GoC could say they're learning the basics or simply prefer to pvp vs friends rather than the people who do that in Void vs anyone daring, or a load of other possibilities.

As a final thought, i think there's more important things (new content, bugs, camping) that need to be worked on and affecting a larger player base than pvp point farming which can be a very subjective topic and which only affects a very small fraction of the community.

A small fraction of the community that needs nuturing more than any other.

i would be more concerned if there were actually more awesome things to buy with the points, but yes I guess some people just need a supply of free sap crystals...

points farming is definitely a silly practice. When someone who never engages in PvP suddenly is running around in gear only available to those who do, their "shame" is on display for all to see. It's a small community and most people know who does and who doesn't earn their special items. Let em' have their fun and know that your fun is more fun!

Yep, in the end true skills will be evident, regardless if people are looking good or not.

So you guys are saying even though it's actually illegal let people get away with it? Might as well just give everyone on the server a piece of arguably the best LA in the game..

It's not just about looking good. There are many great papers who haven't even earned the q250 items yet. Why should farmers be allowed to own them when these people haven't yet? 28k pvp points can take an extremely long time to earn through actual pvp.

Yeah i dont have one yet. Still need another 8k. Everyone knows I have an 'alt' too but then I like to have some honor even if i am crap at pvp ;D

As for people cheesing their skirts I personally dont care if they do that. They know themselves if they have earned it or not. It wont have the same sense of reward if they obtain it that way. Their loss really.

Thats my 2dappers at least ^^

Alt? Thanks a bunch. but on topic I agree with myself. Will have to see of we can find placio and divinesoul tagged with their trousers down in the void again. That was fun ^^

I'm just saying its not illegal according to the CoC although of course people can interpret the rules to whatever fits best for their purpose.

I don't even farm and barely PvP, my point is this doesn't really pose any threats to me as a player and nor do i think it gives anyone advantage over anything since farmers will not stand a chance vs people who have really trained themselves at pvp, despite them having nice clothes..

Virg, I know you dislike my legalese so I'll keep it short: a law isn't a law unless enforced; enforcing is either a decision of The Powers That Be (on their own because of their own reasons), or comes from community pressure. Neither is happening right now. Despite the fact that it's written in the Code of Conduct, that does not make it a law.

We know keystrokes and a lot of data can be watched server-side. We know monitoring could be done, if GMs considered it an activity worth their time. This is not happening, at least not on a consistent basis.

I've seen alts openly selling crystals in the Universe chat (hi Helgah) with no repercussion. I've asked them if they consider it legal, and I received the same response: the CoC leaves the "exploit" part open to interpretation.

You say one GM called it "sort of exploit", that's neither here nor there. If it is an exploit (definitely, with no shade of doubt), then I expect the gaming company to fix said exploit (like they did with buying sap crystals with pvp points) -- not to outsource CoC enforcing to the community. Not to mention we've seen cases where GM interpretations of the CoC conflict with each other.

Further problem: you couldn't easily define an exhaustive rule that would cover everyone's use cases and that simultaneously won't trigger for actual, non-exploitative pvp. The best I can suggest is a decision that significantly curbs the behaviour: forbid f2p chars from accruing pvp points off subbed chars, and cap pvp points at 10 kills of the same character in a row. More than 10 kills and it would easily be called harassment anyway ;)

tl;dr : Farming is allowed unless explicitly forbidden, tyvm.

(edit: I tried to be short. Didn't work out. Sorry.)

GMs are united now on views.

Hopefully at the very least they will clear that up although I very much doubt it.
