Can we all calm down again, please?

If you slowly count to ten before posting, and before opening the umptieth thread about the same topic, then this isn't about which theories can be proven or not. This isn't about who has the most votes in a poll.

It's also not really about priorities here - because without having access to the actual server internal data (material & dapper & homin inflow and outflow, movemement patterns, tp usages, occupation usages, statistics on mission takers, pre-merge appartment usage patters including Rhybambels, etc) a player cannot really decide what's high and what's low on the prio list. Noone outside those who have that access can really judge what players want. We - the players - can make suggestions, but none of us can claim to be the wiser.

Maybe we get back to just proposing an idea, then refining it, and possibly deciding that those who discussed it (which always will be a minority of those actually playing) like it or not.

If you absolutely want to discuss if the camping theory can be proven or not, why don't you folks go ahead and open a philosphical thread on this? This would possibly allow the camping debate to go back to how we can make bosses more interesting for more players.

Thank you all.

I couldn't agree more Irfidel. The issue is when people try to assasinate ideas on forum threads even when they seem to agree the actual issue at hand is wrong. These people deviate the topic away from its true purpose and waste time. I am part to blame as I blindly follow these people into a discussion which shouldnt be had.

As for calm I am calm now :) Just asking honest questions about how I can go about putting my point forwards to the devs.

You also claim posting in the forums isn't the way to go about asking for rule changes and not everyone would be involved in doing a faction meeting. So I'm curious how would you go about trying to get something changed? If there is a better route I'd like to take that.

Real bugs are always first priority for any dev; just file a ticket or email support@ryzom.com . We know that this gets moderately fast response. (It's not relevant to this reply except for the fact that one of the reasons I regarded apartment fixes as high priority is that they are bugs. We were promised rapid fixes and they haven't happened yet.)

Forums are useful for discussions and brainstorming, and we know that the CSRs and devs read them, but for complex problems it is difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Not being a dev, but being reasonably certain that there aren't many of them just from looking for posts by and about them and looking at the Dev. Timechart app, I would suggest the following as a possible route to getting a dev's serious attention.

First, quantify and qualify the problem and be sure that it is real and not just perception. A fair amount of the argument here has been over that question. Quantifying, in the sense I mean, involves evaluating/estimating how much of a problem it is (Three players, ten players, 50 players?). Real, in the sense I mean, involves showing that it causes harm to the game or the majority of players, not just a few players.

Consider and brainstorm possible fixes. Your forum discussion over at http://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/19027/1 is an excellent example of brainstorming that has not (crosses fingers) deteriorated.

Possible intermediate step: Write to support@ryzom.com and ask if the fixes are actually possible and what the devs would like in terms of support before they would consider them.

Select one or two fixes as likely to be implementable, then publicize them across all language forums asking for support in the form of comments in the threads. (This is where a carefully worded poll could help.)

Write to the devs with the proposal, including a headcount of the international community that favor and oppose the proposals.

That's my idea. YMMV etc.

I'm missing something .... given the existence of the well known "boss macros", I don't really see the significance of not seeing someone camped "at the boss spot". I can remember running Loria once a day on my mount trying to get last few mats for a set and seeing the same alts swimming or standing against a wall or in OP for weeks on end.

At the Gusty Gorge one, one time I had a tail of aggro and tho I treid to avoid, accidently dragged on the toon. So after shaking the tail, I came back to res and site was empty. It hadn't been more than a minute so I knew it wasn't autospawn. So i waited around.....few minutes later .... poof.... toon spawned in front of me.

Apologized for the aggro but no response .... if they got killed, nice trick respawning in same spot.... if not, well that raises more questions.

Missed reading this Freddy - and very depressing to read :(
Camping is one thing - messing somehow with spawning is quite another!

This idea of "I'm offended". Well I've got news for you. I'm offended by a lot of things too. Where do I send my list? Life is offensive. You know what I mean? Just get in touch with your outer adult. (Bill Hicks)

Useless poll.

Camping should be allowed but dragging aggros too. But dragging aggros will be abused so much then...

It's just a bad feature of the game. Nothing can be changed. Or put some aggros mobs around every boss at 250m. The ONE and ONLY solution :)

Pour moi Alric est le Matis Noir par excellence. Terriblement beau et attachant, manipulateur, menteur, la totale quoi.

theres another one... dont spawn bosses when any player is within 300m ;-) (obviously spawn timer should be extended by random x amount of time units when that happens)

Hello!

That might shut down some bosses. Depends on where the popular dig sites are.

Bitttymacod you have lot the point, campers are bad for players wanting to get mats for plans, we can now see you don't need the mats.

#90 [en]

No, Veg, I have not lost the point.

I was pointing out that in the proposal above, a 300m radius is a 600m diameter circle. A homin in that circle, digging, would prevent respawn of the boss. Since a 600m circle is about 1/4 the size of Abyss and 1/6 the size of Underspring, the probability of a digger is high. Hence respawn probability is low.

Consider also that a guild willing to gamble could deliberately station a toon near the spawn site to block others from getting the mats. Remove the toon at a known time and gamble on the spawn. Camping by another name.

Campers *are* "players wanting to get mats for plans." The argument isn't about desire, it's about tactics.

Heck, I'd love to have some of those mats, but I don't belong to a big guild, and the guild I belong to doesn't do PvP (and I'm in it for that reason). We rarely get sup harvested mats, much less boss.

My chance at super-mats in quantity is low. I admit that I do get invited on Boss Hunts and I get my fair share when they find Bosses; and I thank those who invite me. My chance at super mats is low, not zero. Strangely, when I am on those hunts, we often find bosses. I rarely take part in the ones in Prime Roots due to not having any tps there and not wanting to slow down the party, but I have watched my friends take down Yelkoo, Kipekoo and the like (and of course I don't get a piece of what I don't work for - duh).

This thread is about greed. Greed for certain types of materials. Both sides of the argument are displaying it. My personal opinion is that the effectiveness of campers is over-rated (see above paragraph). Your mileage may vary. However, putting up aggro circles, putting up exclusion zones, and things like that will only have negative effects for others. It won't stop camping, because greed is more powerful than game mechanics.

The only thing that will stop camping is removal of anything worth camping for, and I don't want to see that.

credo -- MacOd Bittty.
