Now what did Fyranna see?
A CSR recruitment NPC or something by Misugi???

I'm kinda confused now...

---

#17 Report | Quote[en]

yes, misugi has done many amazing things, of that i don't disagree, what i'm saying is getting missed as is the norm, so i'll not continue to type the same thing over and over.

also on a side note, we can copy and paste what's said in the forums to get translations, the topic of discussion is for the in game things we CAN NOT COPY AND PASTE to get a translation, like chat's and npc bubbles and menu's.

the key part here everyone is missing is IN GAME translations, misugi does his stuff on the forum, that can be done OUT OF GAME, thus can be translated, let's talk about in game stuff, once again.

ok i've wasted all the keystrokes on this needed, i won't keep saying the same things over and over because everyone is missing the point here. (though this time i hope the huge colored letters will explain we're talking about ingame translations for everything chat or clickable like the recruiting npc found in the captials)

international means international, not "just us" and "just you" and "just them" and "everyone else"

If the team needs to recruit German CSRs I hope they won't loose their time translating the annoncement in French, Spanish, English, Russian etc... because it's only aimed at people who can read German.

WG is a very small compagny with few employees, and translations are mostly done by volunteers. It would be nice to have a translation for everything, but it would mean more work for volunteers.

I don't understand why some English-speakers complain like this again and again and dare calling themselves "second zone citizens".
Do you think that the French translation is perfect ? Do you think that the Frenchies enjoy the best in-game experience because everything is made for them ?

I can insure you that the French translation of this game is far to be perfect. I played in both languages and the English version of the game is way more coherent than the French one.
To give you examples, many locations are poorly translated and the very same place may have different names depending of the context (map, missions, NPC, tribes, outpost, etc). The Knoll of Dissent may be called "Tertre de la Dissidence", or "Monticule du Dissentiment"; The "Barkers" tribe is called "Percécorces" but the Barker Dunes are called "Dunes de Barker"... where is the logic ? And even more wierd, the Plam valley is called "Valée des Palmiers" (Palm Trees Valley) when "palm" should mean "hand" because there is a giant hand structure in this area, and no palm trees... d'oh!
These are just few examples but I hope you will realise how it's very easy to get confused when you play with the French version. So the grass is not greener for the French.

All the bandits names are not even translated and still appear in English. We have missions saying things like "Vous devez tuer 4 wicked winds of the west". This is bad. What would be your reaction if all your bandit missions were half translated ? (something like "you must kill 4 mauvais vents d'ouest")
So it is not true nor fair to say that non-French-speakers are second zone citizens.

On French boards there is a sticky titled "Correction des fautes des textes du jeu" (Correction of ingame text mistakes) where players are still reporting mistakes or bad translations to help improving the game translation in French. And this is done without complaints or aggressivity.

Yes this game translations are far to be perfect, but what do you expect with such a small team ? They have limited ressources and must make choices. I wouldn't put full translations on the top of the to-do list. And the French one is not better than the English one. We've learned to deal with that, why can't you ?

We are not asking for a full translation here we just ask for 1 sentence ontop of the post saying something like "This NPC here is to inform the french playing homins that we are looking for a new french CSR because the french don't read the forums we need to put this NPC here in everyone's face" => instead of having that npc everywhere with no explination what so ever that post might get alot of clicks but most of them are in vein since we don't understand what it's about. I think i've by now explained what that npc is about 20+ times on english uni, cookies, guild chat, ...

Well , since you get transported once you press on the NPC to a topic which isn't written in english - It means clearly that the topic doesn't concern english speakers.

And adding "[FR]" would be more than enough to evince that it's only for french speakers.

Have fun!

seams you keep missing what i'm saying, let me try this again:

the company needs to program translations into the game it's self, not anything to do with players that volenteer.

now do you understand that? have you read my words for that.

as for the french recruting npc, that only needs one line in each language telling what he's there for, the point is that if you don't speak/read french and see that, you feel like you don't matter to the powers that be, because they're not even saying "this is to recruit french speaking and reading players to the french csr team" anything after that one line can be all french because after i read that, i don't need to read more. i guess the extra minute it would take to do that is too much to ask for.

this will be my last post on this as well, since everyone's not reading or understanding what i'm personally getting at, the UI NEEDS BUILT IN TRANSLATION FOR ALL BASED ON THE UI SELECTED LANGUAGE, THAT WAY I CAN WRITE IN ENGLISH AND A FRENCH PLAYER CAN READ WHAT I SAID AT THE SAME TIME ON HIS OWN CLIENT. (but saddly our game just doesn't have the funds for that, so we're all out of luck.)

So much entitlement running in the forums lately. "Gee, I'm English, I need every damn piece of information to be translated in MY language, even though said information is not relevant to me in any shape or form, hurr. I still need to be told what's it about, because if I don't know then it's end of the world."

For some funny reason, I don't see complaints from German, Spanish or Russian players, so it's a definitely an English problem ;)

Not to mention "How dare French players never invite ME and put in extra work for ME to translate their event?". Oh, and while I'm at it, more entitlement, "How dare roleplayers actually roleplay and make an event where only certain factions are allowed? Without ME? No way.". You know, all the nonsensical babble that happened in the forum regarding the matis kitin discusison.

More caps or larger fonts won't solve your entitlement problems. Good day.

wtf => yes you read right

That yummeroth char is in our faces everywhere at every stable they for once even didn't forget the marauders :). We don't ask for a translation we ask for a 1 sentence explination since for all we know that post is about one big super duper event or one big rp story we can't read.

look another player that's not reading what i'm saying, imagine that.

full translations for all languages, for all chat and npc's and everything, once agian, someone not reading again, shame there's not a way to physically slap someone for not reading the basic idea.

translation built into the game for all languages and players (perhaps i should try to draw it with crayons for those that can't understand the adult statement about all in-game CHAT needs translation built in, as well as NPC's that everyone can see and use)

no more replies to the foolish or the simple minded that can't comprehend the basic idea i'm trying to promote here.

Find some game where this kind of things is implemented .... Ah, this doesn't exist, maybe ? There must be a good reason for that.
You definitely can't demand something from the actual Ryzom that no other game editor, with obviously more potential, don't ever tried to do. As far as i know, international servers just use english as language and don't care about anything else. client may be translated, but there is absolutely nothing that translate discussions from player of a specific language to language of another player.

Ryzom has already automatically translated emotes, and a few translated interaction texts (check your key settings) .... but you can't have a roleplay session with this.

Can you recall any event or communication that was *meant* for English players too, but didn't get translated? I can't. Every assembly and event where English players were expected, due notice was given beforehand in English.

I don't play much so I might've missed something. So far though, reads as if panicking over literally nothing. The event "Ein bodoc fur Davae" didn't get much attention, a few players asked what's it about, they were told the German community of Davae is doing an event, all good. And now suddenly we're huffing and puffing because the puppet of Yumeroh might've excluded us? Sigh.

#27 Report | Quote[en]

actually about the emotes I heard today that some emotes are bad translated not sure it's rtight but the '/silly' one in english that tells you are silly would be a big insult in french.

it's not about exclusing ppl (btw i'm a coockie and against exclusing ppl) but about if you push an npc in somebody's face then atleast let em know why you doing it.

#28 Report | Quote[ru]

odd, i was told that WoW does exactly what i am saying, sure ryzom doesn't have 500k active players at any one time, but from what i'm told (key word is told) it does just that.

though i'm willing to admit i can be wrong.

in the end the yarmoth (or however you spell it) npc is only in one language, there should be one line at the top in each major language, that's not asking too much.

but like another thread this is where i stop speaking because the over-all idea or point is not going anywhere at this point, now we're just going on about this or that.

Talkirc -- Shouting in extra large type doesn't make your words any more effective. Really.

What you ask is simply NOT possible. Period. Ryzom doesn't have the kind of staff to do that, even if it could be built into an engine that is ten years old or more.

In addition, the use of abbreviations, slang, non-grammatical constructions, archaic constructions (of which I am on occasion guilty) and the existence of typographical errors would render any automatic translation worse than the tower of Babel. rly.

And if WoW is doing simultaneous translations it's the biggest secret in the internet. :)

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.
