I am poor and I have been running the easy hunting missions around Pyr and Zora to make money. Every time I complete the mission I get the money and my reputation increases with some groups and decreases with others.

Am I in danger of ruining my reputation and becoming kill-on-sight with any groups if I continue to do this? Is it possible to run reputation increasing missions for the groups that I am losing standings with?

I have played EVE and had a character that could not even go into certain parts of the universe without being destroyed by NPCs.

Is this even worth worrying about? Can we switch sides easy enough if we become KoS?

No matter what you do, you will be KoS with someone. If you align to Kami certain Kara tribes will attack you as werll as the Karavan temple guards and vice versa. Be careful that the missions you are taking aren't affecting your civ fame or your Kami/Kara fame adversly. Fame with tribes is pretty complex and it's best to check your fame with any given tribe before venturing too close to thier camp, eventually, you will know which to avoid and which will help you.

Thank you so much for the response! (and the super awesome amp you made me). Is it possible to recover fame with tribes and factions if it falls too low? If a certain tribe is out to KoS you, how do you run missions to increase fame with them? Do you have to find the a tribe that doesn't hate you as much (but likes them) and run missions to raise your fame indirectly? I understand that by choosing a side, the other side will want my head and that you can't make everyone happy all of the time. But if you are willing to work hard can you switch sides or make a tribe who hates you, like you?

TL;DR: if you trash your fame with a group, is it always recoverable...somehow?

In answer to your tl;dr -- Yes.

Most specifically there are Journeymen and Hunters and Prospectors for tribes that wander outside the KOS zone of the villages. They will give you missions that can get your fame up to -50, at which point you can talk to the Welcomer and get more missions. Of course doing that for tribe A will affect your fame with tribes B,C,D, etc.

Back in the day there were people who regularly switched from Kami to Kara and back and going for 100 fame each time. They were crazy, but they had fun.

The only KoS areas are inside villages for tribes, anywhere near a bandit camp, and inside the cities and near the temples for Kami and Kara. You can enter any area and travel around without worrying about fame.

Also Seiges, you can team up with a high lvl crafter and they can craft high paying missions for you and give you the items to turn in for the high paying dappers. Just make sure you are teamed with them before they do the crafting so you get the credit and the mission updates and tells you to 'turn them over to... such and such NCP', After you turn in the Items, you get big dappers

ok, yes tribal fame is very tricky, i guess (can't say 100% becasue it's not yet on my to-do list) that in theroy you could get most tribes to at least not KoS (-51 i think, though i've been told it's more like -53 before you are KoS) but i think it's not possible to be liked by everyone everywhere, that would be nice, i'd like to try later in my toons life to get all the fames to non KoS levels, but i'll wait to do that after i've mastered all 63 skills, becasue it will be a huge job to do i'm sure :) (also i don't think it can be done if your aligned, perhaps for a true neutral in both civ and faction could do it, but i'm partial to my kami tp's. also a note, don't always go by what your shift+f says your fame it, sometimes it lies to you.)

As Naema suggested, crafting missions don't step on too many toes, neither do delivery missions.

However, you will find that even with these missions, gaining fame with one tribe will automatically lose you fame with another (or several) tribes.

Keep an eye on the System Info tab in your Chat window - when you complete a mission it will say
'you have gained fame with *this tribe*'
'you have lost fame with *that tribe*'
'you have lost fame with *the other tribe*'

etc.

I suspect that any mission that gives you fame or dappers will lose you fame with someone else.

And no, it is not easy to switch from one side to the other. Just doing so loses you fame big time.

Are there any missions that do not cause you to lose fame with anyone? I have heard that the New Horizons Occupation related supply missions don't lower fame with anyone and also yield quite a lot of money.

Military personnel missions (corporals, captains etc) will not affect your fame with other nations - but they do with tribes that hate the nation you're working for; i.e. working for a Pyr corporal will not lower Matis or other fames, but will lower fame with Lawless, Renegades and so on. Same goes for delivery missions.

As far as I know, feeding New Horizons is the only way to raise a nation fame without affecting anything else.

I will just feed New Horizons then. I don't want to be too hated by anyone. I have only run about 4 of the hunting missions, so the damage shouldn't be too bad :)

yes NH is the worry free method

there's no other option that i know of, tribal ambassadors might only give faction fame and fame with the tribe in question, but i'll have to do a double check on the ambassadors for you, as i do them already for kami tribes because it does good things for my kami fame :)
