IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Hi,

I don't know if there already was a topic for this.
I gave up looking for it at page 12 and the search option didn't help at all.

I loved to edit scenarios with the ring tool.
There's so much more we could do with this game.

Personally i would prefere a total makeover.
Having Ryzom on a complete new platform and actual 3D engine, would be the max.
When this game was created, it had no players to fund it. So it doesn't matter how many players there are now. Free to play or subbed. It would be a new game, so a new investment. They did it ones, and the game still lives, so why not do it again?

Meanwhile, having the Ring back, would be a great tool.

Greetings,
SB

agreed, and player made missions are nice change to the static missions we get in game now.

I enjoyed the heck out of the Ring scenarios that some players did, but it was not widely used (at least on Arispotle). Also, while some scenarios were very good, others were just plain awful. It takes a good imagination and a lot of dedication and debugging to make a good mission,.

The problem with bringing it back is that it requires a server that is close to the same as the game server to run it (said by one of the CSRs). Since the merge of the three servers was made for economic reasons, it was explained once that there would be no Ring server. That might have changed in the ensuing year, but I kinda of doubt it.

Agree it would be a nice thing to have. However, I believe part of it's underuse could be accounted to lack of stability on the different platforms. For instance I was never able to join any scenarios on my mac :((

It was under-used well before the release of the game to Linux and Mac -- that just compounded things.

Best comeback for the ring, as I see it, is for a completely player-run instance, if anyone has the resources.

Of course, it won't be available to everyone, but better than nothing..

Funny, I logged into this forum with the exact intention of starting a thread like this if one didn't already exist. I'm back in Ryzom for the time being, but I can safely say that a large part of why I haven't come back sooner is due to the removal of the Ring. I know it was underutilized, but for those of us who really knew how to work with it, it provided an opportunity to bring more stories and content to Ryzom in light of the game's situation.

Please, please bring it back! Even if players had to host the servers for RIng content themselves. Heck, that might even be preferable to the old "creator must be online for people to play" system.

+100 also!
I would love to have the Ring back! I still haven't finished my Scenario and would love to. Also, if i remember, it was a bit difficult to understand making scenes up, so if it was made easier that would be the cats Meow! I don't know, Maybe it was just me.... Thanks!

sad that they took it away, good well made missions by players could have been used to add missions to the real offical server, thus giving "new" content to the player base, and the best part is WG doesn't have to shell out more money in real life to get those missions made and used, not to mention i'm sure the maker of the missions, who play the game, will make the payout's a little more worthy of the bad economy in ryzom, always get's me when i have to pay 1000's to buy a mat, but if i sell that same mat, or one of much higher grade to the merchants and can't get 1/10000 of the price, sure in real life merchants make a profit, but the one's charging 100,000% mark-up, well, they just don't last and go out of business. if i can only sell a mat, say choice amber, for 20 dappers (more then the actual value i think) but if i want to buy from the NPC it's fine grade and costs 2k or more (not exact on math, but it's the right idea, and you can see what i'm saying)

oops sorry got a off topic on that one, but the can work together i think.

still +1 for the idea :)

Not sure what you mean by "player-run instance" but if what you mean is a player running their own Ryzom Ring shard then I have sort of good news for you. We've been trying to get the Ring shard for the Ryzom Core shard running. I'd be glad for any help from people who are interested in getting it up and running.

The Ryzom Core development shard will be an always-on shard with a small and slowly expanding world. It won't really be "fun" to play but the shard and the Ring instance will always be there. Just need some man-power to find out what we're missing and get it running.

Whatever it is, i'll take it.
We will be able to play each others scenario, right?

greetings,

i may know a few players that have some tech knowledge that can lend a hand i'll be happy to send them to the ryzomcore.

sfb (on IRC) was the one that has been playing around with the ring most afaik and I suppose he'd really love to get a helping hand on this topic ;-)

That is correct. sfb has resources and knowledge but not time or patience. Getting the Ring running on a free shard is really a process of trying, finding what is missing (through looking at logs), adding it in and then repeating.
