IDEAS FOR RYZOM

i'm along with everyone that silan is for training, and teaching, but i played there for over a year, because high lvl players (i was guessing, it was uni chat) told me to wait untill i got all my stills to lvl 50, there are guilds on silan telling people that they can't go to the mainland if they're not already over lvl 50, and a few guilds that tell players they can NEVER go to the main land. while those are bad reasons, i'm not asking for a huge super kool event like we get on the ml, i'm talking about weekly yobo attacks or a "scavenger hunt" type event, to give the new players a clue as to some of the things that you get to do on the ML.

but i see alot of ppl don't want players on silan to do anymore then they got, well, that makes for a boring 3 weeks of silan (the time it took a friend to do all solo missions in silan playing 2 hours a day doing one mission giver at a time)

but it's all my 2 dappers i'm tossing out there.

. . . . i'm talking about weekly yobo attacks or a "scavenger hunt" type event, to give the new players a clue as to some of the things that you get to do on the ML.

A good point well made.  I may have to revise my thinking on this.

Unfortunately to successfully do range you need to be a pretty good forager and crafter.... given other limitations on silan toons, I dont think it would work even if it was available :(

all the needed parts to craft a "silan" ranged weapon can be found there: mektoub, cray, torbak

all the needed parts to craft the ammo can also be found: mektoub, cray

sure these aren't the best of the best, but in silan it's about learning, and there it is, things that you can hunt (one of the skills that always seams to be leveled up is melee and or elem magic) to craft both the weapon it's self, and the ammo. so with this little point made, what's to stop a little training on the ranged weapons? it would also be a way to encourage new toons to do more melee, since you don't get the option on the skill tree till lvl 21 in melee that would be the first requirement to even start the training for ranged fight. also helping to ensure that they can hunt the mat's needed, it doesn't require they have good harvest or crafting skills yet, but would also give them more reasons to do more of both. (no ranged training in silan is why it's my only skill below 50 now, and will almost surly always be that way, because it wasn't something we learn in silan, i don't think i need it on the mainland. (not that it's still true to this day, but for a long time i really did feel that way)

so there could be ranged training as well as ranged events to also encourage it's use, for the slightly higher lvl players there in silan.

There's lots of stuff on the mainland that's not there on Silan, and similar to this off-topic discussion about ranged skill tree missing, one could argue that people should learn how occupations work on Silan already, or fighting scripted bosses, or even rp politics.

I still think we shouldn't try to make Silan more attractive to people in the sense that they'd be motivated to stay there any longer than necessary. If people actually tell new players to stay there until everything is levelled up to lvl50, then that's something that requires fixing.

On my priority list of things to fix Silan is doing really fine and thus is far down...

Back on topic: Some events are already done on Silan: The Atysmas presents and the easter egg hunts do happen on Silan as well. Also, iirc, the search for flames happened on Silan in parallel to the mainland. I don't particularly agree with stretching the even team thinner by asking them to consider Silan for weekly events.

i will agree irfi, that it's low on the list, but it would be a decent idea for them to consider, and the scrips for it could be hardwired (so to speak) if they're to be weekly or monthly, so once made, they could be left to the server to run on a preset schedule. but yes, it's very low on the list since silan does work already as it is.

I've always seen range as something refugees can test when they get to mainland, the same as the ability to buy and use a mecktoub mount/packers - adding these things to Silan don't make Silan any more interesting and the player is not missing out on these examples because they will have access to them when they come to mainland. The same applies for events - they can participate in events if and when they come to the mainland.

This is what's going to happen if we have events in Silan, sub players with alts in Silan will win whatever activities get hosted by the events team because they know how to play the game. So in the end nothing is being done for the new players but for the bored high level players whit alts in Silan. And I don't say it like this to insult anyone but to make a point.

In my opinion the events team should remain focus on creating events on the mainland, events that can be inclusive even for Refugees arriving fresh out of Silan.

i'm with you on that apple, i do agree that high lvl alt's in silan will be played by some (not all because we're more respectable then that, and i say we becasue i'm in silan to help and guide when i play there, not take away from the new players, though i only visit once or twice a year)

so maybe it's back to the basic's, but really if you have a high level toon in silan how much fun would it be to kill a pack of level 1 yobo's? no xp, wothless mat's, but i do get your point apple, and i do have to agree with that side of the coin we're fliping around here.

Beepe you are right but with these events, Silan not cease to be the interactive tutorial that is. Anyway, the events eventually will be another type of lessons. Both the need of teamwork as the need of some skills, leads to some kind of help in the decision of choice in the future.
But I personally, or others who have fixed characters on Silan, we are certainly not boring. We have characters on the Mainland or we can always create another.

Talkirc, this idea of yubos is another interesting idea. :)

I fully agree with Mjollren. So this topic was that idea. Silan is just a tutorial but novice players will not go soon to ML and many who want to go eventualy, not have the right idea of what awaits them. And the event will always be a great lure to captivate and encourage beginners.

Any newbie that I find on Silan, I try to help to fulfill the missions they learn and evolve rapidly, giving the need of a teamwork, between fighting and healing magic, or crafting and harvesting, etc. Usually I give a few words to explain what to expect, but it's never enough. My character has no Guild and I remain impartial in that. I explain that when they get to the mainland will have all the necessary help and encourage them to seek that help at a Guild such it will be them family. But many are demoralized or too short of what really awaits them.

As for the idea Naema and developed by others here, regarding the range. This I find to be a strong subject for another topic. I would enjoy indeed see that also at Silan, but this would require some changes, including new missions in Fighting Missions, from Guilan Guiter, Crafting Missions, from Sterga Hamla and the Tool Merchant with Be'Tooly.

They should have PvP events in Silan so that when homins leave for the ML their lust for spilling the blood of another homin is heightened.

rollocks, i can get what your saying, but there is pvp zone there, so they can get a tasete of it, problem is that a new baby toon from silan is no match for the high lvl's typical of pvp players, thus they just die and the high lvl players can laugh at them and collect pvp points (sometimes anyway)

but that's a side point as well.

back on topic, while still off topic

ranged in silan, good points aleyin, but i was thinking that maybe there would be a one npc for all parts ranged, sure they could add to the one's there, but that i think would be more work then creating one npc for the missions to take, that way no edit is needed of the already established npc's.

anyway, bring on the yobo invasions.

For example, we have now a great Event in Silan, at Arena with lots of yubos and we had lots of homins interested in the game more than ever! :)
